Breezy and fresh. ... “4400” promises drama without heaviness, and the pilot sets up various story points without feeling too portentous.

While 4400 may need to smooth down some of its more noticeable tone hiccups, it has set up a very interesting mystery with undertones of issues that are very relevant to 2021.

this reimagining is a a vehicle for lumpen metaphor, every painfully obvious box being ticked, anachronistic sexism, An idealistic hippy who can change the world (literally) with their mind, musical theatre as a super power.... sheesh. Feels a lot like the Doctor Who misstep of being a little too preachy and finger wagging for it's own good.

7 minutes in and I just can't anymore. If this is how shows are gonna be from now on I'm moving to another planet. Not just the premise, but the acting is just so horrible. Even for CW standards. As a fan of the original I really wanted to like this, but they're not making it easy. I expect critics to love this, because ... you know. But fans will probably hate it.

The pilot for 4400 doesn’t scream for your attention, it asks politely. But even though the reboot stumbles out the gate, its clever premise and subtle hints of its true potential will likely be enough to keep fans tuned in. At least for now.

It's sometimes soggy and silly, sometimes sharply insightful; sometimes a politically correct sledgehammer, sometimes waspishly funny. One thing that seems certain is that it's far more ideologically attuned than its predecessor. The original version certainly had a political bent, but only in a broad, traditionally sci-fi way: ruthless totalitarians bad, smiley-faced anti-totalitarians good. The new show is far more specifically tethered to the woke politics of 2021.

The storytelling is all about keeping them in the same room or so, sitting and talking to each other. It’s a dull visual approach, and brings out the corniness of the premise that needs to be distanced from for this to work.

One gets the feeling that the goal of this remake was positioning African Americans in more tv roles, but the story is weak, a feeble, erratic story and after 4 shows I’m not wasting any more time on it and have unsubscribed from the series. It is sad because no viewer wants to have to watch 4 shows to see if a show pans out. I heard the previous series was great but never saw it. given the material, this could have been mind blowing, a sci-fi thriller for the decade but no, it’s a boring, confused story where the producers and writers seemingly want to school us about past transgressions. No one wants to be schooled, but everyone wants to get lost in a great sci-if.
