You'd think with this kind of budget they'd be able to afford a good writer. Terrible acting across the board, which isn't surprising considering the quality of the writing. Terrible overbearing soundtrack: a new song every 5 to 10 mins. Tedious cliched nonsense. Unwatchable.

Seemingly written by a twelve-year-old, ham-fisted and in your face. Beautifully shot though, and the actors are doing the best they can with what they were given.

Cliched paper-thin premise, it's lilke you've seen this exact tired story cheaply put to screen a million times before. I never read the books so maybe the interesting part is still coming? Hmmm, not so sure about that... And Rebecca Ferguson indeed cannot act. Tried episode 3 and couldn't finish it..

It's so much fun I couldn't care less how implausible it all is or how cringe the dialogues might be at times. Great writing with some humour thrown in for good measure. So very enjoyable!

There's so much beauty in every frame, and so much pleasure in watching it unfold, you don't want it to ever end. I don't think it's worse or better than Too Old to Die Young, it's just more of the same magic, however different the story might be.

It defies belief how laughably cheap, vulgar, and devoid of an iota of talent and taste this drivel is. The authors (and their enablers, for the series wouldn't exist without an army of editors, consultants, and, of course, Amazon) have shown themselves for the creative impotents they are who, armed with all the money in the world, have failed miserably to conjure up a spark of magic one man created in such abundance using only his imagination and a pen.

Yet another one with a budget the size of a small country's GDP while seemingly written by a 15-year-old. Despite what some reviews I read have lead me to believe, it's not the supposed complexity of the story that's the problem, it's the writing that's derivative and, well, bad. If you think the whiny mother storyline in the first episode is awful, wait until you get to Harry Porter and GI Joe in the second one. Horrendous acting across the board too. This is, sadly, unwatchable.

Starts off well enough with likeable characters and funny-ish jokes. Sadly, it soon descends into silliness bordering on idiocy: I got to the Sting episode and the writing was so bad I couldn't finish it. Why obviously talented actors agree to take part in something so subpar is beyond my understanding.

It was quite entertaining until they introduced the ridiculous Chinese woman storyline in episode 2 or 3. I kept hoping it would go away in the next episode but from that moment on the entire series has revolved around it. Reese Witherspoon is superb though, she's the one whose acting elevates the poor writing.

As the reviewer above said, this one's the best series from Apple so far. It moves to its own rhythm and requires attention from the viewer, which may have put some people off, but it's beautifully shot, attention to detail is impeccable and, best of all, the writing is excellent. Can't recomment this unique series highly enough.

The writing in S2 is a big step down from s1. The story is a mess, the characters behave like idiots and there's none of that sense of doom that permeated s1. The acting is worse too which is hardly surprising considering the cringeworthy cheese the writers have the characters spew out. Worst of all is that it's mind-numbingly boring. Was s1 based on a book? It's pretty obvious the writers had no idea where the story was going after s1.

You don't watch this show if you want likeable characters, it's not what this show is about. It's supposed to be about violence and how it shapes up people's characters and, ultimately their lives and I thought season 2 excelled at portraying just that. While the writing can be uneven, I thought it was better and more focused in season 2. Acting was absolutely superb. Altogether, I found season 2 very enjoyable and definitely superior to season 1. Watch it for its grittiness and rawness and if you want likeable characters go watch Bambi instead.

To say I am surprised by the low score given to the show by the critics is to say nothing. It is one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever watched with interesting characters and, most importantly, a good mystery at the heart of it. The show started in a way that suggested a cliched YA drama but quickly steered away from the beaten path into the territory of inventive and delicious weirdness. As was suggested by another reviewer, this is a show in its own category, there is nothing quite like it out there now. Most, if not all, current high-budget dramas Hemlock Grove gets compared to, are tired unimaginative milk cows for the networks. This one I find infinitely more inspired and entertaining.

An extremely intelligent show, possibly the best I have seen in many years. I suspect the negative reviews posted here were written by those who watched it because of its subject matter; if you watch it for "soft porn excitement" it's bound to disappoint. Watch it for its interesting approach to storytelling, its unique visuals and sounds and you'll find yourself mesmerised by this gem of a show.
