Yellow Submarine

Yellow Submarine is a journey to the very brightest spots of our imagination, and it’s a vibrant reminder of how joyful, inventive, and freeing animation can be.

Perhaps because the Beatles were considered such a draw, perhaps because the songs were counted on to sell the film, there was no agenda to dumb down the material or hard-sell the story. Instead of contrived urgency, there's unpressured whimsy, and the movie exists as pure charm, expressed in fantastical imagery. And then there are the songs.

Good-natured, full of verbal-visual jokes, and surprisingly entertaining, though the love is less impressive than the music.

A garish, gorgeous example of pop art at its finest.

A zesty, satisfying celebration of animation, fantasy, love, and the Beatles that pleases the eyes as much as the ears.

There's such a wide disparity of graphic styles from sequence to sequence. Some of them, though, still look terrific.

The animation is imaginatively conceived, but stiffly executed. A Fantasia designed for heads, the film does no more justice to the music than Disney's artists did. But Disney had the excuse of innocence, whereas this shrewdly conceived commercial project does not.

Yellow Submarine isn't just a film, it is also not only a cinematic and musical experience, it's a piece of art, a groundbreaking animated work of art, filled with mesmerizing visuals, a delightfully surreal journey, an imaginative and fun story, and, of course, a collection of Beatles masterpieces, it's a pure, trippy, and utterly captivating experience, one of the best animated movie i've ever seen.

A fun adventure of the beetles, just don't expect to understand everything.

Still keeps its charm! The 2018 version of Yellow Submarine looks crisp as ever. I really enjoyed the visuals; it goes without saying that the music sounded awesome. I only have 2 beefs: Ringo's speech in the beginning was tough to understand; and I hate the song Hey Bulldog! In this case, less is more and I prefer the version without it. See it in theaters while you still can b/c it's a once in a lifetime experience.

If you love The Beatles, you've probably already seen it. If you haven't, do it. You won't regret it While the musical segments are obviously the best parts, I really love the witty dialogue, even if I can't understand half of what they're saying most of the time (can someone from Liverpool please translate?) The ending really made wish I could have watched this in theaters in 1968.
