Unlocked

With its unexpected story and businesslike filmmaking, Unlocked proves to be a satisfying thriller starring one of the most exciting current female action stars, who toils and shines in these workmanlike roles.

Preposterous, nonsensical, but fun nonetheless, Unbroken frustrates as much as it entertains.

The end result is a movie so resolutely bland and forgettable that the cast and crew probably expended more sheer effort dragging themselves to the set every day than they did in staging all of the various chases and shootouts and whatnot.

Unlocked has the DNA of many a 21st century late summer release: It’s a well-made but terribly uneven film that’s been sitting on a shelf for two years, despite the credentials of the veteran director and a star-studded cast.

I suppose this went down easily enough for me because I grew up with this kind of stuff, and can surrender to it as a kind of cinematic comfort food. But still. For those not so inclined, the entertainment value could conceivably be derived from the brisk, no-nonsense direction by Michael Apted, and the talents of what they used to call “an all-star cast”.

Verdict Spies, terrorists, remote-controlled bombs… Unlocked’s components are all too familiar, and it doesn’t put nearly enough effort into making them feel fresh.

With its dull mixture of indifferently staged exposition and action, it suggests a primitive side-scrolling video game.

Trailer gives away a bit too much, I watched without remembering what happened in the trailer and it was a bit more interesting to me, the first half of the movie in my opinion was quite intereesting and there were no problems with pace for me, but the second part and the conclusion was just so messy and it felt like they resolved everything the easiest and most predictable way possible. Still, in my opinion a good movie.

Unlocked makes use of an excellent cast in this interesting if predictable spy thriller. Rapace in particular had me engaged from the get go, but Unlocked failed to capture my imagination in the same way as other better examples of the genre. Worth a watch for sure!

Dull and predictable scenario with very poor and tiring editing. Great actors in a bad criminal movie which are common lately. It is a pity that such poor film with five leading actors appeared in theaters.

Unlocked is your run-of-the-mill let’s save the city with one second left on the clock popcorn movie. Predictable to say the least, it ticks all the boxes under terrorist/conspiracy/biological attack etc, etc. Could not be more generic even if it tried. The plot is so unimaginative you’re always two steps ahead of everything that’s happening. This is not helped by every single bad guy completely bursting with a shady presence and practically glaring through the camera directly at you. Noomi Rapace is better than this, Orlando Bloom is lucky to even be here and as for Michael Douglas and John Malkovich well they’re just here for the paycheque. Not the worst thing you’ll ever watch but it drifts in and out of a boring story you’ll find the end can’t come quick enough. Not recommended unless you really have nothing better to do with your time. I’d like to think I’m providing a public service by watching these bad movies so you don’t have to. You’re welcome.
