Mr. Showbiz
The film has an unabashed romantic tone that's matched by Wenders' usual flair for visual drama.
50
USA Today
Wenders creates an imaginative, stylized cityscape, but what's missing is the compelling story that could bring the setting to life.

New York Daily News
Conceived by U2's Bono, it's not quite as bad as it might have been. After all, its own star, Mel Gibson, has famously called this tale of destitute misfits "as boring as a dog's a——."
40
Los Angeles Times
A fantasy, a fairy tale, but its characters and the emotions they elicit become painfully real.

Film.com
The film isn't very good. The Million Dollar Hotel is an uneasy melding of Hollywood shtick and art-house sensibilities.
10
L.A. Weekly
How this hopelessly muddled and tedious dirge got released -- unless it was through the clout of Mel Gibson, who's grafted on as an FBI agent in a neck brace, with no discernible connection to the action -- is the real mystery.

Salon
There's a vacancy in The Million Dollar Hotel, and it's between Wim Wenders' ears.

The throw away lines in MDH are much better than the main dialogue of most movies from Hollywood movies, with just about everything else about the movie being several levels above the lowest common denominator needed for a blockbuster for people coming out of our indoctrination, err education system. The movie is a bit careless on the Goldkiss line that "my people decide what will be news"; not only because this line led to some of the attacks on the movie (with no doubt many of the critics oblivious to their leashes); but because many of the people who happened to be born Jewish media mavens themselves do not realize how they are pawns of something else. Anyone want to start a homeland in the desert, in the midst of hostiles outnumbering you by 100 to 1, coincidentally in a sea of oil the powers are after? And of course, all the people there have to deal with the cards they are played, newcomers and natives no difference really. So, one world, one people, like in the million dollar hotel, is the only way forward. See **** for something on this.
