Meh. It was, at times, better than I expected, helped in no small part by the veteran cast. While the movie does explore some big themes about love, loss, guilt, duty, etc., it does so in a very ham-fisted manner. That's not say the sacrifice was in vain, but the movie gives no concrete motivation to the protagonist for his change of heart or for his superior's actions (including the about-face by the senator's attaché or whoever that careerist political "villain" was). Very superficial all around and doesn't get into the grittier side of things or explore Pits beyond this single act of valor. Interesting, yes. Riveting, no. Realistic? At times yes, but doesn't reflect the messiness of the real world, especially at the end. The attempt of the film to make something out of the "cover up" is ... not well done, and the actual chain of events is pretty humdrum in the end. The battle scenes are confusing, as they jump back and forth in time, it's not clear where the perimeter is, and some of the action takes place either *very* early in the patrol or the previous day? It's very unclear. The movie could've trimmed some fat and instead used that time to focus on character motivations and cleanly retelling the battle in a way that's still obviously chaotic, but more easily digestible for viewers. I've watched my share of war films, and while I appreciate the human angle taken (examining the events 30 years after they transpired is an interesting angle), I think the film could've done a lot more with its nearly-2-hour runtime.

Lining up the most repelling cast within the first 5 minutes is a commendable feat. If you have a beating heart and a functioning brain, you won’t make it any further. I know I didn’t. This reminds me of “American Hustle”… My missus picked that when we went to the cinema, I had no intention of Seeing it. In that case I came from “I ain’t watching this!” to it being one of my all-time favourites. This here is the polar opposite. The movie convinces you within 10 minutes, that nobody involved in making it have a single sh—t. GOD…!

Its heart is in the right place but the film is too long and too boring. Don't remember a lot about this.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE, IT IS SO WORTH THE WATCH, DEFINITELY A 10/10, THE ACTING AND VISUALS ARE INCREDIBLE!

Despite the overt melodrama, the messy plot, and the phony hearts and minds **** thia movies worst crime is crippling boredom. Instill don't know what the big cover-up/secret is. The Senator being the CO and ordering the men into a meat grinder? That story has been done to death and better. This piece of crap just made me angry.

Now here's a movie that really got the shaft: Between being released in the typical cinematic wasteland that is January (instead of the genuinely more fitting year-end awards season window) and a barrage of smarmy negative reviews by ever-so-cynical critics who are probably too young to remember the horrors of Vietnam (if they were even born during that time), this moving, heartfelt, fact-based story about the efforts to earn a posthumous Medal of Honor designation for a brave Air Force medic killed while saving countless soldiers during one of the bloodiest battles of the war earns every bit of respect and emotion that it brings out of its viewers. With an excellent ensemble cast featuring superb performances by William Hurt, Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris, Christopher Plummer and Peter Fonda (in his final performance), this stirring tale tells a compelling, no-nonsense story about heroism, valor and sacrifice and the quest to see those qualities properly recognized (especially since the 30-year delay in doing so was derailed by bureaucratic incompetence and a concerted effort to cover up some dirty little military secrets). Be forewarned that the film contains graphic images that may not be suitable for more sensitive viewers, but the picture never becomes gratuitous in its depictions of wartime events. To be sure, this offering, now available for home viewing, certainly deserved better than it got, both in terms of its distribution schedule and its critical reception. And that's ironic, for this release ultimately suffered from the same shoddy treatment as its principal subject, a wrong that truly should be made right.

Amazingly gripping true story that deserves kudos for the actor portrayals of real life.

I thought this was a great movie the only issue I have is that the MOH can only be awarded by POTUS other than that I thought it was fantastic

The Last Full Measure honestly should have been an hour long HBO Documentary. The information in the film should be shown to all but not in a 2 hour feature film format. The only factor keeping this film’s score from dropping is the fact that its heart is in the right place. The film is really trying to do the right thing with the story but where it completely falls apart is the execution. The film is presented so blandly and poorly that it becomes incredibly boring. The bore factor is made worse due to the 2 hour runtime. Whenever the veterans are not being interviewed, the film drags really heavily. It’s incredibly boring and it’s made worse by the fact that I don’t care that much about Sebastian Stan’s character. Most of the characters were very one note for me. They had little to no development besides two of them. It’s very unfortunate because the two characters the Director tried to develop, I actually cared about. He has shown that he is able to make good characters based on real people but he just couldn’t do it with the other characters. This lack of characterization isn’t helped by some of the performances. Christopher Plummer and Ed Harris do a pretty good job but everyone else is okay or not great. Peter Fonda and Sebastian Stan had the weakest performances. I love Peter Fonda and it’s really unfortunate this was his last film role before he died. Fonda and Stan displayed almost no emotion in their performances. They recited their dialogue in a really boring manner and felt out of place with the other actors. Samuel L. Jackson and William Hurt were fine. Their performances weren’t that special and they were just kinda there. The cinematography and editing were very bland and boring. None of the shots were visually interesting. It was just bland back and forth shots except during the action scenes but during the action scenes, the camera is shaking so much that it’s difficult to tell what is going on. Overall, The Last Full Measure has its heart in the right place and some good performances from Ed Harris and Christopher Plummer but the film’s execution and boring moments make this film unfortunately very forgettable.

Loved the movie! Sometimes it was difficult to differentiate between the characters, but overall it was absolutely stunning

A Pentagon staffer (Sebastien Stan) is assigned to investigate why a medic was denied the Medal of Honor after he gave his life to rescue numerous men in a bloody attack during the Vietnam War. Of course, he resents the task until he predictably begins to relate to the surviving vets and the power of their stories. And that's where the movie shines: there's an assemblage of accomplished actors (William Hurt, Christopher Plummer, Diane Ladd, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Fonda & Ed Harris) to handle the dramatic monologues that form the background for this film. Their stories also flash back to the crucial battle. While this true event is noble, the film's attempt at dramatic power is rendered almost bland by the stolid pacing, uninspired writing and intense earnestness. Only in the final scenes does any true emotion surface. NOTE: Interviews with the actual vets roll over the credits.

The critics gave it a 52 rating. What a joke. I have seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishman and 1917. They are all good. This film is better ! Based on a true story, the movie is well directed and the acting is excellent. William Hurt , Christopher Plummer , Samuel Jackson , Peter Fonda and Ed Harris have all starred in films , some 20-25 years ago and they all turned in wonderful performances in their roles . Its sad at times and at other times , poignant . Don't spend on reviews by movie critics. Read the audience reviews. This is a must see movie
