Wow I will start off by saying that I love everything Horror and not many horror films impress me today but this movie certainly did and here is my review. I will start with the story which is about a family who moves from the city to the country and then horrible things start to take place. The overall story arc and how it progressed really speaks volumes on how director Corin Hardy portrayed significant skill in his debut feature film. The pace was excellent and never felt rushed which is a common mistake in movies especially horror films. I will move onto the acting which was definitely well cast especially the main protagonist Adam who is played by Joseph Mawle who really sold the show but everyone did great. I will now move onto the action segment which is what really caught hold of me and took me for a loop. I have seen more horror films in my life then I care to admit but I keep going back to the pacing and how it never rushes things so when the action and suspense start to unfold it does a 180 and takes you for a wild ride. The final part being the cinematography and the location. The film was shot in Ireland and it is downright gorgeous. The shots were impeccable with every lens frame bringing tension when needed and all together was shot to perfection. I will close with saying that if you like films like Alien, The Thing and The Evil Dead then you will love this film. I would caution don't just watch 20 min and say I'm done. I mean stick with it and I promise you won't be disappointed. Watch even as the credits role as well and thanks. I would also like to close with saying that the creature design was Phenomenal in my opinion so Bravo to John Nolan. I haven't seen creatures that scary since The Descent.

If you like horror movies with heavy suspense and creepy stuff with zero gore, The Hallow is the movie for you. I loved the use of Irish folklore and the appearance of Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton) was really nice. Although the story builds up slowly, but when it reaches the climax you are glued to the ground and chilled by the scares that are not cheap and there is no cheesy jump scare. It's hard to make a decent horror movie these days but Corin Hardy did a great job.

Rather than letting the CGI do all the graft, Hardy unleashes a beautifully handcrafted army of puppets and animatronic demonic creatures. Too many, too soon, really. It’s overkill and pretty quickly you’re suffering from fiend fatigue.

A boring, cliché-ridden plot, with a predictable, but nevertheless, mildly interesting ending; like all other horrors then. Failed on the fear front also. Even so, the relatively good special effects are not as distracting as other recent horrors. The pacing actually holds your attention for the entire last two thirds of the film. Because of this, its hard to say that I did not enjoy the film. Therefore, although its not the best, its watchable.

Unfortunately painfully average. And it had budget, it shows . The half hour action is okish, the problem is the emptiness of the other hour. No pacing, no progression, practically nothing. The reference to folklore is also completely unused. Nothing showing talent in there

Despite solid reviews, "The Hallow" is little better than your average Syfy creature-feature from back in the day (when it was still called sci-fi). The visuals, monster design, the body horror and bland characters all scream "we've seen this before!" It's a predictable affair and one lacking in scares. Despite writer/director Corin Hardy's best efforts, there just isn't anything interesting or threatening about the movie's hallow-dwelling antagonists. The creatures look pretty cool and the Irish folklore should have made for something much more exciting. Unfortunately Hardy just can't capture any sort of tension onscreen. By the time the little buggers show up, you already lose all interest in them. They just aren't scary. Not even the body horror elements do anything to raise the pulse. We get some cool looking, parasitic fungi based mutations, but nothing that will keep you up at night. The faceless protagonists and generic writing kill what little plot there is here. Not that there was anything interesting happening in that department anyway. It all boils down to "protect the baby!" and Hardy never dives into the actual mythology he's borrowing from. Yeah, Hardy leaves everything up to his monsters. Unfortunately he fails to make them even the slightest bit frightening. So what follows is one really dull chase that's entirely predictable all the way through. With no characters to hang onto there's no point in watching it. At least things look nice. 4.5/10

There is no new idea in this movie and 2nd half is more boring than the 1st half , At the end of the film you'll realize that you saw this kinda stuff before :)
