The Guardian
Afterlife is an immensely suggestive picture about the role of memory, the function of cinema and the limits of our imagination.

Chicago Tribune
One of the most beautiful and profound films to emerge from Japan during the past decade.

The New York Times
After Life becomes a quiet, extraordinarily moving and sometimes funny meditation on the meaning and value of life. It intimates that whatever happiness we may find in life comes from within and is self-created.

Austin Chronicle
Contemplative, though riddled with humor, After Life reveals itself gradually.

New York Daily News

Charlotte Observer
Like waves lapping quietly at a beach, After Life makes its subtle effect, as we wonder which memory we'd choose. [8 Oct 1999, p.7E]

Baltimore Sun
A lyrical, mysterious and provocative meditation on the power of memory and narrative, After Life is a fascinating speculation on life and death -- until its plot takes a turn so melodramatic that the spell is broken. [20 Aug 1999, p.3E]

Slow fary tale with too many talk without much action. Don't have patience to watch until the end. But recommend you to see "Still Walking" (2008) by the same director.
