When a movie proposes to treat an excruciating fundamental dilemmas through a surreal creative dystopia we have to begin to stay full of attention and recognise the brilliantism that a proposition of this level carries. A country immersed into destruction, the ruins, the conflict, the disaster, fighting for survival, clinging hopelessly to scarce resources, wasting away, suffering in an age that can’t help them. This mysterious population adapts and strives to thrive, but the obstacles are extreme and tearing. The people agonize while they feed your feeble hopes. A dystopia has a powerful meaning and an incisive effect that evoke so many intense thoughts and vertiginous reflections. And we can contemplate the aesthetic while the portrayed world sinks into myopic desolation provoked by lack of equilibrium and the greed. A restarting, a rebuilding, a reedition, a redirect, a reengineering. All of this only could be possible through sincere union and fair distribution of natural resources. And the inadmissible courage to make what nobody could imagine or consider. A world where the guns are banished and the matches may acquire the very last poetic meaning. Does this have some meaning for you? But into dystopias lies the most unthinkable flees of the dark wells. A new and hyping light glimmering. Like a planet bathed in embers.

An interesting post-apocolyptic, dystopian sci-fi movie. Very European(Swiss). Kinda dark, no big budget CGI. But an interesting story. Worth watching if you like sci-fi. If you need ILM-level CGI to enjoy a story, look elsewhere.

The overall story was interesting until the antagonist was revealed. His motive was pretty contrived and could have been solved with a simple conversation.

The Colony is a mediocre fantasy film. It has both thriller and action elements. But that the first, that the second is secondary. The Colony has absolutely nothing to surprise the viewer, there is not even a single beautiful scene, there is no expensive CGI. Well, well, the film has a small budget and all this cannot be shown as other blockbusters. Then you need either a good plot or great acting. Once again, The Colony doesn't have the first or the second. For almost 2 hours, the viewer is led through some kind of garbage dump of ships in a dried lake. Insanely boring film, which I just want to turn off before looking until the middle. The plot is complete nonsense, the motivation of the main character as in children's cartoons, the acting of the main actress is terrible. Some kind of non-intersex fiction is obtained from Europeans.

Ce nanar germano-suisse est également appelé ‘The Colony’ ou ‘Tides’ selon les régions d’export… il a dans le rôle-titre notre fort jolie Nora Arnezeder (au nom difficilement prononçable) qui a choisi une carrière à l’international après un premier rôle remarqué dans l’Angélique rebooté, une affreuse daube soit dit en passant. On a vu ainsi la jolie Nora dans ‘Army of the Dead’ et elle n’y faisait certainement pas la potiche de service ! cependant, si elle se montre toujous volontaire ici, elle ne peut pas grand-chose pour sortir ce nanar tout foireux de son marasme : on dirait ici (vaguement) un sous-Waterworld soldé dans une sorte de marais plein de brouillard avec un vieux pétrolier rouillé… Mais avec toujours plein de brume et d’humidité pour masquer le tout petit budget ainsi que la nullité du scénar (de nanar) qui se répand en bavardages ineptes afin de meubler ce qui peut l’être : bref, de quoi mettre Conforma en faillite ! car en effet, il ne se passe rien là-dedans, rien du tout ! ce n’est qu’une sorte de petite fable moralisatrice écolo, geignarde et minable.

I’m not sure how I caught the trailer for this movie, but I remember that it made me curious. I checked to see if it was playing on demand and I saw that it was on sale for a low price so I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m very glad I did. It was absolutely engrossing in its plot and utterly stunning in its visuals. While the story is very familiar, it was beautifully set amongst the post-apocalyptic fallout of a total global catastrophe and is told in an unbelievably fresh and comprehensive way. There’s almost a “Water World” vibe here, but it’s paced better with relatively little dialog. You can see where the story is driving to for the most part, but that destination was compelling and a thrilling pleasure to watch unfold. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read or discussed aspects about a film’s cinematography, but ultimately I could only really tell you wether it was good or not. There were several instances while watching this that I legitimately couldn’t tell how they got a shot. Because of that I will likely be viewing this again soon. The acting and actors are just outstanding and it felt like they were really a part of the world being shown. Along with this, the score too was very well done and not intrusively weighing any of the scenes down. While at times it can be a bit of a downer, if you are at all a Sci-Fi fan you should definitely check this out.
