Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the confident sequel the original left me hoping for, with a sharper script and jokes that'll leave you giggling. It maintains the original's family friendly tone and dives into the classic games to create a cinematic universe for Sega's beloved icon.

The screenplay reflects actual effort, and Jim Carrey gets to be unfettered in his performance, leading a surprisingly satisfying follow-up.

It’s truly impressive that Fowler has found a way to integrate the wild world and characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog games into the real world in a way that actually works, but it’s a shame that it comes at the expense of the story of friendship that made the first Sonic the Hedgehog film so charming.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has just enough laughs to make its shopworn lessons about the value of friendship and (brace yourself) teamwork feel like part of a harmlessly amusing kids’ movie, rather than an insidious way of training kids to expect and even demand franchise bloat.

From a technical standpoint, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is fairly impressive in its merging of live-action and animation, a reminder of the technological advancements since the days of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Too bad it is in service to one more story of a scrappy young male hero on a search for powerful talismans in order to defeat increasingly more formidable villains. For a film about a character who is incredibly speedy, this sequel feels behind the curve, chasing after blockbuster trends but only falling farther behind.

High-speed antics have never felt this slow.

There’s a joke where people say, “This film’s plot could’ve been written on the back of a napkin!” Yet for Sonic 2, a napkin seems like the equivalent of multi-volumed antiquarian tome, as there is so little of substance to this depressingly rote endeavour.

My Review – Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – 10/10 I gave Sonic the Hedgehog 2 a 10 out of 10 because it’s bigger, funnier, and more exciting than the first movie. The introduction of Tails and Knuckles adds a lot of personality, and the action scenes are fast-paced and entertaining. The movie balances humor, heart, and fan service really well, and it genuinely feels like it was made for Sonic fans. The visuals are great, the performances are strong, and the story keeps you hooked from start to finish. This is why Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a 10/10.

Sonic 2 tem momentos bem divertidos e sabe quando acertar no tom de aventura e ação, mas para mim ele sofre muito sempre que volta para o núcleo dos humanos — principalmente toda a parte do casamento, que quebra bastante o ritmo do filme. Quando o foco está no Sonic, Tails, Knuckles e Robotnik, o filme funciona muito bem. A dinâmica entre eles é energética, o humor encaixa melhor e a sensação de “filme de aventura de videogame” aparece de verdade. As cenas de ação também ficam mais interessantes nesse núcleo. O problema é que a história insiste em alternar isso com subtramas humanas que não têm o mesmo nível de carisma ou interesse. A sequência do casamento é o melhor exemplo disso: ela alonga demais uma parte que não tem grande impacto na trama principal e acaba interrompendo totalmente o fluxo do filme. Esses momentos parecem existir mais para preencher espaço ou criar humor paralelo do que para realmente avançar a história. O resultado é uma sensação de “dois filmes diferentes” acontecendo ao mesmo tempo — um focado no universo do Sonic e outro tentando seguir uma comédia familiar genérica. Os personagens humanos em si não são necessariamente ruins, mas eles não têm força suficiente para sustentar tanto tempo de tela. Quando o filme insiste neles, especialmente em situações como o casamento, a energia cai bastante e a narrativa perde ritmo. Isso acaba deixando Sonic 2 um filme meio irregular: quando está no lado dos personagens do jogo, ele é bem divertido; quando volta para os humanos e subtramas paralelas, ele perde bastante força. No fim, é um filme que funciona melhor nos seus próprios pontos altos do que no conjunto completo. Nota: 6/10

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has finally succeeded on making in my opinion one of the worst sequel ever made, i'm honestly a bit surprised at how extraordinarily bad it turned out, is this really what Sonic fans wanted? A dull kids adventure packed with bad acting and an absurdly stupid plot?, it's frustrating, none of the scenes really that work, except a few in the beginning and in the middle and also few from Carrey's possible improve, the rest was atrocious, i can't wait for the film to be over, they seriously can made this to be at least entertaining, instead, i'm left with this stupid plot experience, dreadful performances, and an unbearably long two-hour runtime that felt like an eternity, it's trash, if you can somehow enjoyed it, good for you, but i absolutely hated it.
