Something's Gotta Give

The moments between the characters are absolutely full. It's a pleasure to watch such consummate professionals.

Nobody else working in movies today can make her (Keaton) own misery such a source of delight or make the spectacle of utter embarrassment look like a higher form of dignity.

In an era of dumb farce, Something's Gotta Give is something special.

The movie, which ricochets between farce and poignancy, casts just enough romantic pixie dust to leave you smiling. It's certainly not the last word on the subject, but it's an amiable start.

It's hard to imagine anyone other than Keaton pulling this off.

As a date-night movie for women of 50 or thereabouts, chances are it'll do the trick.

Something does have to give, and that's the nine-figure public patronage of this kind of anemic, wit-free entertainment. Meyers's shakin' moneymaker isn't the worst film of 2003 -- no cat suits, for one thing -- but something scarier: a standard-issue bog of glossy idiocy and audience disrespect.

Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) ist ein Frauenheld wie er im Buche steht. Er hat noch nie die wahre Liebe gefunden und geht nur mit Frauen unter 30 Jahren aus. Sein Liebesleben ändert sich auf einen Schlag, als er eines Tages die Mutter einer seiner jungen Frauen kennenlernt, die Buchautorin Erica Barry (Diane **** das Herz begehrt, ist eine gute Liebeskomödie. Jack Nichlson spielt wie in vielen seinen Filmen wieder einen unsympathischen Mann mit einer großen Klappe, welcher sich im Laufe des Films sanfter wird und sympathisch wird. Eigentlich sollte man nicht auf seiner Seite sein, doch Nicholson spielt wie immer super, dass man auf seine Seite ist. Keanue Reeves spielt hier seinen „Gegner“ der das absolute Gegenstück von ihm ist. Er ist sympathisch und man mag ihn von Anfang an, trotzdem möchte man nicht das er Erica bekommt. Die erste Hälfte des Films ist eine Liebeskomödie und die zweite Hälfte wird emotionaler und wird eher ein Liebesdrama. Wer eine gute Liebeskomödie sehen möchte und Jack Nicholson Fan ist, sollte sich den Film anschauen.8/10

A good, convincing proof that love doesn't know about ages. Especially when you mix an aging Casanova, an aging writer and a young doctor. The cast makes good chemistry, enough for making smile several times.

Nancy Meyers has a natural knack for crafting heartwarming, touching, and humorous comedy/romance themes. The performances by Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton are genuinely outstanding, managing to overshadow some flaws in the script and creating a cozy and heartwarming countryside love story.

If Nicholson and Keaton weren't in this, no one would care one whit about the movie. The acting is good (though not their best), the cinematography is excellent, but the story is cliche, boring, and the dialogue is stilted and predictable.
