We're watching two strong-willed people overcome their differences and learn to be a team: it's "Die Hard" reimagined as couples' counseling.

An extremely silly, inconsistently funny, action-packed jaunt, carried by the sheer star power of J-Lo, with strong support from Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Coolidge on top form.

I f*cking love this cake knife — really fun ride of a movie that I’ve actually watched four times & find myself quoting (I don’t quote movies). Absolutely loved it — romance, comedy, action, profanity, explosives, Bill & Ted reference, zip lines & helicopters, … I mean. Yes!!!

Shotgun Wedding is a hilarious romcom that was funny and adventurous at the same time; much in the same light as The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, however Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez paired up in this film to create a very interesting dynamic and the pairing of the back drop and casting with the likes of Cheech Marin and Jennifer Coolidge made for the perfect Comic Relief coupled with a beautiful tropical background that made it funny, action-packed, and enjoyable! I'd recommend this great new movie to all fans of similar films such as Romancing the Stone, and Jewel of the Nile.

All the charm and style in the world, and J.Lo has more than anyone, can’t make up for the bizarre tonal imbalance of “Shotgun Wedding,” a movie too violent to be funny and too funny (in the odd, weird sense) to be fun.

All due respect to Lopez’ longevity and acknowledging that some of these films have their diehard fans, J. Lo has never scored with a classic romantic comedy, and though she once again gives it her all and dives into another ludicrous premise, there’s no salvaging this deliberately over-the-top, mixed-genre effort that plays like a slapstick take on “Die Hard” at a wedding.

Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel try their best with an interesting premise that’s squandered by script with barely any laughs, gratuitous violence and unconvincing action.

Lopez and Duhamel — who has done his damnedest to create onscreen chemistry with the likes of Julianne Hough, Elisha Cuthbert, Megan Fox and (shudder) Katherine Heigl — click and almost will this into being more fun than it should be.

Unfortunately, memorable moments are few and far between here, and those are mostly spoiled by the film’s trailer.

JLo is funnier than ever. I’m surprised that she has never done action comedy or physical comedy like this much in her career. She’s amazing

Although the film brings nothing new to the table, it has some decent humor and spirit that remind us of the fun rom-com that came out in the early 2000s.

It’s the season for love, Streamers! There are romantic comedies galore – on the streaming sites, at least; and, the theaters are pretty barren. If you are looking for something love-related to watch from home, Jennifer Lopez has a new film on Prime Video called Shotgun Wedding, which premiered two weeks ago. It seems the time would be right for romance, action and pirates. Anyway, here comes the bride and the movie she rode in on. Shotgun Wedding takes place during the destination wedding of Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel). They are a long-time couple who are finally getting married in the Philippines. There is some tension on the night before the wedding for a myriad of reasons: Tom is a “groomzilla”; Darcy’s parents (Sonia Braga and Cheech Marin) hate each other; Tom’s mother (Jennifer Coolidge) is annoying Darcy; and Darcy’s father has invited her ex (Lenny Kravitz). All of these things come to a head when the wedding guests are taken hostage by pirates, and the bride and groom have to band together to rescue their family and friends. High-octane nuptial hijinks ensue. You know how Jennifer Lopez seems to keep making the same movie over and over again. Well, here we are. That doesn’t mean Shotgun Wedding isn’t enjoyable. It’s just not particularly creative. It’s funny enough. Lopez and Duhamel have good chemistry and they are able to lean into the silliness of this premise. Lopez looks great at every turn. Even though she is trekking through the jungle, her hair, makeup and wardrobe only slightly suggest that there’s any effort to outrunning pirates in the Philippines. Of course, it’s unrealistic, but did you really come here for realism? Additionally, Jennifer Coolidge is a reliable comedy weirdo. She does just what you hope she will do here. She’s a scene-stealer and the scenes get stolen. The rest of the cast is fine, but Coolidge outshines everyone. The action is decent. There are explosions and at least one oddly gruesome death for a movie like this. The tension keeps you engaged for the entire film. I wouldn’t call this movie relentless, but it fills the roughly 90-minute runtime sufficiently. It moves at a quick pace from sequence to sequence, and even though you know where this movie is going, it still remains entertaining. Overall, Shotgun Wedding is a nice film to watch on a date night in. It is funny enough, has decent action, and has a quick pace. Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel are an appealing couple while Jennifer Coolidge adds spice to every scene, she’s in. Grab a bowl of popcorn and curl up with your honey this weekend.

Imagine a movie that falls into the genres of comedy, romance and action and flops in all three. In the first because the comedy fluctuates in a very ugly way. Forced moments and bad jokes to provoke laughter abound. In the second one because there's nothing impressive about the action. And I mean that. There's not a single piece that will make you say, "Ok that was good.'' And the romance? Nowhere to be found.
The compatibility between Lopez and Duhamel has a hard time making us believe they are a real couple, and when, regardless of everything else the movie wants to shove into the audience, it is their relationship and their wedding that the whole thing revolves around, and you just don't believe it. At least I didn't.
And if that doesn't work, the rest falls apart. And Shotgun Wedding crumbles right from the start.
