Chris Pine co-wrote, directed and stars in the titular role, a character who spends his days meditating and cleaning the pool. This is a vanity project for Mr. Pine, allowing him to create an eccentric character in quirky situations. Danny DeVito and Annette Bening add some cred and a bit of comic support. Otherwise, the movie isn't especially funny or even clever. It's trying hard to be all those things, but Pine's undeniable charm can't rise above his uninventive script and lackluster direction. BTW, Pine's actor dad, Robert, is voice of Lizard.

This movie is horrible. It’s trying so hard to be The Big Lebowski while also trying desperately to avoid being The Big Lebowski. The earnest efforts of talented actors is the only thing keeping from being a ‘1’. It gets its other point from being shot well, nothing innovative or ground breaking but… professionally. It was also costumed effectively. Sadly those are not at all enough to over come the rest of the movie. The story is essentially incomprehensible. The goals and wants of the characters, unknowable. It’s not funny enough for me to rewatch it and figure out if the mystery made sense at any point, but I certainly didn’t get it the first time though. Not enough to be invested in it at any point. The best thing I can say about the movie is that it gave me a greater appreciation for what the Coen Brothers achieved with The Big Lebowski.

The movie has a clearly defined aesthetic and a consistent tone and a good heart, and there are moments where it wanders into the sublime.

I thought it was a good movie full of fun events. Chris Pine plays Darren Barrenman, a quirky man in this film. I hope this movie is a good movie like Chris Pine's previous movies. I thought that this movie would end with a good event that touched the hearts of the audience at the end.

Um filme que se faz propositalmente prolixo, com uma sperie de citações, diálogos em excesso, sem nenhum nomemnto sequer dedicado à imagem, exceto na (pouca explorada) piscina, e de forma óbvia. Uma bomba.
