Murder Mystery 2

This film is a pleasure indeed. The concoction of Agatha Christie elegance with Sandler’s teetering on the edge of taste humor is high-impact relaxation, like a warm bath for your frontal lobes.

The primary assets here though are Aniston and Sandler, who are totally present in every scene, playing off each other like old comedy pros and coming up with little bits of improvisatory business that make Nick and Audrey feel like a real and loving married couple.

The saving grace of Murder Mystery 2 is that Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have a renewed sense of charm, bouncing agreeably off each other as a married couple struggling to revive the unique magic they found in their first adventure.

Like its predecessor, Murder Mystery 2 is built on old-fashioned star power and the interplay between Sandler and Aniston. They’re good company to be in, and sometimes that’s enough.

As a kooky fantasy, it’s all fine, if just fine is what you’re after. But at what point does just fine become soul killing, or at least just soul numbing?

Ever since Knives Out snapped the whodunit back to wicked life, it’s harder to accept a lazy, dim-witted mystery that wastes the starshine of Sandler and Aniston on 89 minutes of sequel piffle. One of those new AI bots could have coughed up a script with more personality.

This crime caper has a certain frenzied energy, but it’s sloppily plotted, crass and so dumb, you wouldn’t trust it to use cutlery unsupervised.

A fun and hilarious sequel to the first one, bringing back a bunch of characters. The first one is still better.

I thought it was decent. Maybe a bit predictable compared to first one and some repeated jokes, but overall I enjoyed watching it, even though of course not the greatest movie you can expect, but a nice popcorn flick.

Good entertainment.

Really disappointing. First one was a decent guilty pleasure, no Oscar winner, but at least it was fun romp. Trying to up the stakes in the sequel is a recipe for disaster, everyone comes off way more unlikeable, especially the returning side characters. Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler still have chemistry, but that's about it.

I've had a bit of a love hate relationship with Sandler over the years. Back in the 90s his brand of comedy worked well enough but over the years his man child character wore thin. What I once found funny became amusing and then just grating. But he's still done a few decent movies scattered in there over the years. The first Murder Mystery wasn't great but it also wasn't terrible. I mean I wouldn't watch it again but it was ok to pass 90 minutes. It's no masterpiece but it's better than most of his other movies. And Murder Mystery 2 isn't really terrible. It's a "pass the time" movie. Not better or worse than the first. Just more of the same. And that's why it gets the low rating. They took the first script and changed a few details. This is basically the first movie with a different crime and locations. It's lazy.
