There’s more to Wilson’s film than dread though. In between the terror, the newbie director makes time for actual plot.

Insidious: The Red Door might not be the scariest installment in the franchise, but it feels a lot more human than the others before it. The character moments end up feeling more effective than some of the film's big set-pieces and, while that may bug some genre purists, those who have stuck around since the first film released over 10 years ago will be pleased.

Insidious 5 may be the creepiest, darkest, and most frightening entry since the 2010 original. It's full of suspense, the casting is great, the acting is superb, and lots of creative and psychological scares. Patrick Wilson's direction is very well crafted and, as a big fan of his, The overall storyline, writing, and Wilson's direction are very high quality. You can tell Wilson put a lot of tedious dedication, passion, quality, and thought into many scenes, and the tense ways they play out. The franchise's intriguing theme of Astral Projection is done excellently here and there's plenty of emotional moments as well. Long term fans of Insidious, The Conjuring Universe, and Patrick Wilson in general are going to have a wild, terrifying ride The Red Door! Most of all, The Red Door puts spotlight on Patrick Wilson as both an actor and director. I highly recommend you go see it. Perhaps the scariest film of the summer!

Screenwriter Scott Teems reflects on Leigh Whannell and James Wan’s Insidious franchise by showing the Lamberts after a decade’s worth of otherworldly traumatic repression, which disappointingly gets away from what’s otherwise made this series so sinisterly supernatural.

Callbacks to other “Insidious” films are half-hearted, and “The Red Door” seems to give up on trying to make all of the pieces fit after a while. What does work are a handful of scares in the film’s first half.

Spread thin between that father-son drama and the jolts intended to galvanize it, Wilson’s creaky debut underdelivers on both.

Franchise fans will enjoy seeing the Lamberts again, but newcomers will be baffled by the under-developed story and nonplussed by the over-familiar scares.

The writing expends more effort on teasing out the logistics of seeing dead people than making the phenomenon frightening or emotionally resonant.

The film is a worthy sequel. He's a frightening, interesting plot. The actors played their roles perfectly. I really liked the ending. For fans of horror movies, the movie is definitely worth watching.

insidious è uno dei tanti sequel della saga. Personalmente mi è piaciuto abbastanza anche se ci sono tanti errori e banalità nella trama

The latest Insidious installment is perhaps the most forgettable. For lead actor Patrick Wilson making his directorial debut, the direction is competent, but the screenplay is extremely week and the jumpscare sequences are all very predictable.

The same story, the same formula, but more uninteresting, weaker and not at all scary. Insidious: The Red Door is a film that mainly focuses on two aspects. First, the horror part. Second, the relationship between father and son. And oddly enough, it hurts both of them. The script is the same as the first film but with some changes. The climax of the film is very weak and even disappointing. The plot returns with the demons of the first two films, but they end up not adding anything. Another thing misused was the red door itself (subtitle of the film), in the end it ended up having no real meaning, it's just a door that happens to be red. The development of the characters is shallow and the construction of the relationship between father and son is almost non-existent, not to mention that it was sold as the last film in the franchise, but the film itself left room for more of the same. The horror part is weak, the production relies on cheap and predictable jumpscares. Even though the soundtrack is basically the same as the other films in the saga, it doesn't have the same brilliance here. The team is already beaten and she doesn't cause discomfort, discomfort or the shiver that the others did. It's the weakest in the franchise, it relies on references and appearances to mask the poorly written script, but they didn't succeed. Because the wear and tear on the formula and the lack of creativity in continuing this franchise with main titles are noticeable.
