SummaryVery much out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals, and cobbled streets, the two hit men fill their days living the lives of tourists. Ray, still haunted by the bloodshed in London, hates the place, while Ken, even as he keeps a fatherly eye on Ray's often profanely funny exploits, finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty a... Chicago Reader
The movie gradually deepens from odd-couple comedy into Catholic-themed drama, but it remains marvelously funny throughout. Instead of hitting the easy notes of black humor, McDonagh skillfully modulates between broad character laughs and the men's piercing anguish as the story nears its bloody conclusion.

In a film full of great performances, Ralph Feinnes steals the show as Harry, the boss.

In Bruges 2008 Film is an absolutely brilliant film. And because of the scenery, music, acting and script have been 8 times to Bruges. Have even started an In Bruges Facebook Film group called (In Bruges 2008 Film Martin McDonagh Colin Farrell Brendan Gleeson) the music is spot and adds to the story from Carter Burwell. The scenery really makes you want to come to Bruges. Have heard 6.5 Million have been to Bruges having seen the film. The Film City Office said this?. The Directing from Martin McDonagh is absolutely brilliant considering it was his first film. Colin Farrell as Ray and Brendan Gleeson as Ken should have been Oscar nominated as performances just so good. Eric Godin as Yuri is brilliant I a small role. As is Ralph Fiennes as Harry superb as he normally always is. Have forgotten how many times have seen it. And Eric Godon and Mark Donovan and crew are in our Facebook group. Please do take a look.

The best Tarantino movie that Tarantino never made. Martin McDonagh's feature-length debut shows off style, wit, and high quality dialogue. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes all ride the line beautifully between humor and drama in this tense, violent thriller.

In Bruges, at its best, works like "Pulp Fiction" with Irish (and Belgian) accents, digressing into weird discourse and giving a bunch of actors the occasion to shine in small, peculiar roles.

Premiere
This finale, which piles one bloody absurd epiphany on top of another almost ad infinitum, is where McDonagh lays all his cards on the table -- and his characters are the ones who have to pay up.

Fiennes's energy gets the film over the finish line.

Neither star is sloppy, but both are loose and mellow -- a couple of pros who know they're the whole show.

No one wants a movie that tiptoes in step with political correctness, yet the willful opposite can be equally noxious, and, as In Bruges barges and blusters its way through dwarf jokes, child-abuse jokes, jokes about fat black women, and moldy old jokes about Americans, it runs the risk of pleasing itself more than its paying viewers.

On the one side the movie is a bit charming and has some good scenes. The story is ok, because it has a good twist in the middle. Ralph Fiennes as the killer Harry is also great. On the other side the movies forces to be funny, but is a bit unrealistic.

The quality cast help to look past the average 'gangster schtick' screenplay and forgettable editing and cinematography coupled with it's slightly overlong runtime. It is sorely missing the 'x factor' that could otherwise help to separate it from the such an oversaturated genre. Entertaining but unsurprising.

My friend and I were bored stiff. We got nearly half-way through it before we'd had enough. Unfunny, uninteresting, gave us no reason to watch after the first 15 minutes but we persevered. Totally unrewarding, waste of our lives. Just nothing at all interesting happened. The dialogue may as well be drivel since I didn't give a damn what they were talking about. The characters were boring, unlikeable, but I just couldn't bare how slow-paced it was... This is perfect torture for a bored person.

I was told this film had emotionally intensity but it's one of the worst piles of garbage I've ever seen. Colin Farrell's acting is terrible, the plot is cliched, none of the characters except Brendan Gleeson are likeable. The one female character is incredibly weak and soulless. It seems to think being mean to dwarfs is incredibly funny. In fact the whole film is build around this premise. The worst thing about it though is the fact the lead character shows no remorse whatsoever for what's he's done, so you can't empathise with him or like him at all. It's too ridiculous to give its apparent emotional scenes any tour de force. The dialogue is hammy and Ralph Fiennes it just a walking archetype, Harry the London rudeboy, nasty to his wife, says the F word 5 times in every **** was done in Lock stock and it wasn't funny then. Nothing funny about this word. I use it as much as the next person but it has to have context or it just becomes odd and affected. I don't give zeros often but this film offended me.
