Gifted

Gifted isn’t the best or most sophisticated or most original film of the year so far — but it just might be my favorite.

You may find yourself wishing that Webb (“500 Days of Summer”) would just power through court. We’d gladly watch more of Grace and Evans silhouetted against the sunset, their connection evident in his indulgent posing as her makeshift jungle gym.

It’s a feel-good film that honestly feels good, and even when it rings a bit hollow, it doesn’t stay that way for long.

The question at the movie’s heart is: What is best for Mary? The answer Gifted chooses is predictable, but that doesn’t stop the movie from messing with your tear ducts.

Gifted proves cutely endearing and effectively poignant if not especially memorable in any “everyone needs to see it” way.

No one is likely to disagree with the basic correctness of the movie’s conclusions, though you may well object to the process by which it arrives at them.

The grace notes are crowded out by the screenplay’s plot machinations and emotional manipulations.

This film made a strong impression on me. I cried watching this movie, although I cry very rarely. The film has strengths and weaknesses, frankly the plot is simple, but the atmosphere it creates is beyond words.

Alright, let’s be real—sometimes you just need a movie that tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you with all the warm fuzzies. Gifted does exactly that. Directed by Marc Webb, this flick brings us Chris Evans as Frank, a guy just trying to give his niece, Mary (played by the scene-stealing Mckenna Grace), a normal life despite her being a straight-up child ****, here’s the thing—Gifted doesn’t exactly rewrite the playbook when it comes to family dramas, but that’s not a knock. It’s got a charm that sneaks up on you. Evans shows he’s more than just a superhero, bringing serious depth to his role as a loving, self-sacrificing uncle. And Mckenna Grace? Absolute powerhouse. She’s the heart of the film, balancing genius with just enough vulnerability to keep you hooked.What makes Gifted stand out is how it keeps things real. Relationships are messy, family is complicated, and this movie doesn’t shy away from that. It throws in humor at the right moments and hits those emotional beats when it needs to, without getting too sappy. Sure, it’s predictable at times, but it knows exactly what kind of movie it is—a heartwarming, feel-good story that knows how to deliver the feels without being overbearing. Plus, who doesn’t love a bonus one-eyed cat?Bottom line? Gifted is like that cozy sweater you never want to take off—warm, familiar, and hits you right in the feels. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s got heart, and sometimes that’s all you really need.

Because of the poor script and dialogues, 'Gifted' fails to be deep and captivating movie, but for sure there is a potential in it - more backstory, memories and so on. But I think 'Gifted' successfully provide the message, that most of the time the true and right way to deal with one complicated situation is located somewhere in the middle of more points of view. Actors/acting, cinematography and runtime were decent.

This is one of the most poorly written movies I have ever seen. That is not hyperbole. I registered for an account to write this, immediately after watching the movie. The first two acts of the movie are quite enjoyable. The plot is formulaic, as others have said, but it has charming performances and is nicely shot. It all falls apart under the complete nonsense of the third act, to the point of (fairly extreme) frustration. Who wrote the third act of this movie? Have they met other people before, or just heard about them? Are they doing well in their lives, or was this a desperate cry for help from someone who has been deprived of human interaction for far too long? Do they have even a passing knowledge of the American judicial system? At the very least have they seen another movie about a court case, or have they only heard about one from a stray radio signal in the isolation pod they've been raised in? How are we, as an audience, supposed to go on with our lives knowing there's another soul out there, somewhere in the vast wild, experiencing such unbelievable anguish? In summary, despite a good performance from the always-great Chris Evans, I now hope Thanos kills Captain America in the next Avengers movie.

I LOVE Chris Evans and Jenny Slate, and was excited to watch this. It was one of the WORST movies I've seen in a long time. It was just on the edge of being so bad it's funny. The dialogue was incredibly awkward, and the music was sooooo terrible it stood out.
