Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Rowling’s universe just got bigger and more complex, but Yates never forgets to sprinkle stardust on top.

Grindelwald gives us a proper villain and a purpose for this series of — gulp — five eventual movies.

While the performances are solid and we do get a few touching moments, the film sinks under the weight of too many intersecting storylines and too many loud and fiery and surprisingly mediocre action sequences.

As impressive as the final showdown is (it’s easily one of the most impressive setpieces in this fledgling franchise) and as shocking as the film’s closing revelations are (yes, they really are), this magic needs a spell of its own.

It’s an embarrassment of riches, and it’s suffocating.

Telling an audience this stuff is important is one thing: making them actually feel that it is is the magical part, and Grindelwald bungles the trick.

Congratulations to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald for being the first flat-out terrible product of the Harry Potter expanded universe. The first two movies were not good movies, but no matter how sludgy and overlong Chris Columbus made them, they were salvaged by the truly magical origin stories they told.

I can see why some people say it's boring, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The Wizarding World is just so goddamn interesting.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It gets worse. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a disappointment with a weak storyline and a lack of character depth. Despite the impressive visuals and beautiful sets, the story feels disjointed and confusing, preventing you from fully immersing yourself in the world of magic. Some of the characters are confusing in their inconsistency, and the development of events feels rushed and unjustified. Additionally, some plot twists feel predictable and lack interest, and the development of the conflict feels drawn out and unconvincing. Ultimately, the film leaves you more disappointed than delighted, and leaves you feeling like the potential of the franchise is not fully realized. Overall, the film leaves you feeling unfinished and disappointed.

An okay movie, there isn't anything much special about it. The plot is generic without many memorable scenes, we just keep following the same characters that appeared in the last movie. For Harry Potter fans there are many references and nostalgia which makes the movie better.

JK Rowling: The Crimes of Bad Writing. Seriously so much exposition and padding with a lot of nothing happening. I can't believe they manage to make the Wizarding World look so boring.
