The best movie ever produced, enough said. Out of the box, creative, full of surprises, and moving. This will always be my favourite movie of all time!

Very well crafted movie I enjoyed the story, it was long, good, but very mid. It showed a new thing, it is interesting but its a one time watchable movie.

Greetings from Lithuania. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004) is a very unique take on love story. If you have seen and liked movies like "Being John Malkovich", "Adaptation." (my personal favorite from the buch), "Eternal" is right there up with the bunch. It has great concept, intriguing screenplay and a cast to die for. It is a weird movie in a sense, and is definitely not everyones cup of tea. But then again, neither the love is.Overall, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is movie about love story told in a most unconventional way. It is one of those movies that is better to be seen in person instead of described by someone else.

This is one of my favorite films of all time also one of my favorites in the sci-fi and romance genres. This is a very interesting and beautiful film, it’s the kind you don’t see every day, it’s a heady sci-fi story but in a good way. The film just has so much it would require more than one watch to uncover more. This science fiction film tackles the subject of interspace which is cool as it’s something I don’t see much but it comes along sometimes. It makes sense having this kind of sci-fi film because the brain is to this day one of the greatest unsolved mysteries ever as we still don’t know all its workings. The film is also special to me in many ways as it played during my junior year at “Pacific Lutheran University”. I was a movie critic for the KCNS News student channel at the time and did a review which is positive and still is. It was special as it was a personal favorite film I reviewed on that episode, the film inspired me once again showing how much more it can be and stories it can tell, but also one of the fitting sendoff films for me as this film played during the time I was close to my senior year. The visuals and story direction are interesting; throughout Joel and Clemetine’s brain odyssey we uncover their relationship but in a nonlinear order. This not just adds to the mystery, but it makes sense when you think about it because none of us remember nor ever think in a straight linear path. There are also new things and experiences happening every day to add to our mindscape which makes it even more complicated. I can’t say too much for the visuals as part of the joy is in seeing them for yourself to believe; but what makes them truly impressive for me is the fact it was all practical and the way it was shot and visual effects accomplished were from your classic photography tricks. But what truly drives this film and its true heart are both characters Joel and Clementine who are another of my favorite fictional couples of all time. You really feel pathos for as these are two quirky, strange, beautiful souls that made a mistake. Throughout the film you want both to find a way to not just save their memories but their love for each other. Both are just great together, you really believe in their chemistry because we see both really do bring out the best in each other and make each other’s lives even more meaningful, which is part of what makes what’s happening to them sadder. Jim Carrey is excellent; this is my second favorite film with him if you can believe that. He’s still a funny guy but a different kind because he’s kind of a sad clown. I like that, to me sad clowns are always funnier because they have more emotional range and feel more three dimensional. However, what makes his character endearing is that he’s playing a regular guy who is relatable or can empathize with because we’ve all been in the same places as him in our own lives. I can relate to him because like him, I’m a passive aggressive guy and on the introverted side myself. But we see despite this he’s not a boring guy, in fact he’s rather interesting throughout the film we discover he is a doer as he’s got all kinds of hobbies, talents and quirks to make him active and funny. Kate Winslet another actress I really like, this is my favorite role from her. Clementine looks and even reminds of the character Ramona Flowers from “Scott Pilgrim vs the World”. She is a person that is just wild and spontaneous as she’s the kind of person that loves to live in the moment; but also, simply do what she feels whenever she wants. She also has her own quirks as she’s fascinated by strange and little things. Love the face that she hates the deadly word nice; I can empathize with that because at times even I don’t like that word as the double meaning to that is boring which is something both Clementine and I don’t want to be. This film has a lot of themes, I’ll just explain two of them. One is about the importance of embracing both the good and bad in a relationship and life. It’s as the Seventh Doctor from “Doctor Who” said, “Happiness is nothing without sadness, two sides one coin.” That’s true in all relationships and life itself there are always going to be bad times, but those times don’t last once you get through them, that’s when the good times begin. From this it allows growth in both you and your partner and both can build foundations for both the present and future to make life and love even better. And the other is in the beauty and importance in enjoying and treasuring the moments in both your love relationship and life itself. Thorough Joel and Clemetine journey they share, or should I say remember a lot of the good times both had during their relationship and realizing how truly precious and special they are as the kinds that don’t happen every day. Love, if it’s true, can never be taken away by anyone because the heart always remembers. Rating: 4 stars

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of those rare films that feels different every time you watch it. It’s not just about love, but memory, pain, and choice. Watch it at Filmfool Film Club Mumbai on 28th February, it will become even more interesting — the post-screening conversations will feel like an extension of the film itself.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is relevant even more than 20 years after its release. And it will always be relevant. Everything is done at a decent level here. The story is interesting until the very end, the cast is stellar, the presentation of the film is great. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, although it has a non-linear narrative, any viewer will build a storyline without any problems. The film will be watched by more than one generation, for one simple reason - it talks about things that are beyond generations and time. Even if you don't like romantic movies, dramas in the classic sense, just watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He goes beyond these classic frameworks of genres and it's just Jim Carrey's best acting work.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is definitely a spotless film as it is one of Jim Carrey’s best work as it is brilliantly creative.

A good film with a great storyline. So sad though! Some great performances which kept me watching to the end. Well worth a watch!

If I'm being honest, I knew this film existed for a couple years and had the DVD sitting in my room with a bunch of other DVDs I have yet to watch. But it wasn't until I learned that Ariana Grande was putting out her 7th studio album named after this movie and that this film inspired it as a concept album that I decided to watch it for the first time. All I can say is it blew me away. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are a terrific pair. This movie introduced a very interesting concept when it comes to love and heartbreak, and it certainly makes you think about your own experiences in those areas and how much you relate to what these characters are going through. You see yourself in these people. After watching this movie, I keep thinking to myself all the time, what if I had the ability to erase a past loved one or heartbreaking memory from my past? Would it make life easier? Would it heal me? Truly, a beautiful film. It should be discussed in film schools.

i remember watching this long time ago and felt it was very good movie but after rewatching it I really didn't think it was as good as I thought it was,maybe its the direction or the story just didn't hit the nail for me

ESotSM is not only a wholly original and intriguing plot, but it also touches on themes and circumstances everyone can relate to in some capacity. That makes this film a timeless classic. While the credits were rolling (as were the tears), I wrote this down: “The feeling of pain is only the reminder that the memories you hold were once moments of joy and ones you never wanted to forget. Now you look back on them and pretend they didn’t exist. And that is inherently sad. This movie explores the concept of erasing all memories of a certain someone (usually an ex) from your brain so you don’t have to feel the pain and you don’t have to remember. And at first you are quick to jump on the band wagon, of course you would do that right? You’d feel no more pain, no more loneliness, no more sorrow. But what about all the good times? What about the magnitude of memories where you were so in love. Why are we quick to erase those? The pain is only so unbearable because the love was so deep. That, to me, is worth remembering.” … and this perfectly sums up why I loved ESotSM ESotSM is a real editing masterclass. The slick transitions not only look seamless, but are edited so tightly that it is like watching real-life memories weave together. The often blue-tinged, cold colour palette only worked to enhance the themes of depression, hopelessness, sadness and grief. You could feel the love poured into every inch of the screen it was phenomenal. I wanted to give ESotSM a perfect score, but there were a few areas that knocked it down slightly for me. First, the non-linear format. While effective for this particular story it did grate on me as the film went on. I’m just not a fan of this style of story telling! Though, I can admit it was cleverly utilised here. Secondly, all of the characters had annoying and, frankly, unlikeable qualities. I couldn’t fully connect with any of them because I didn’t like them. I also didn’t initially buy into Clem (Kate Winslet) and Joel’s (Jim Carrey) relationship - they just seemed too different to ever make it work. All in all, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is equal parts satisfying and soul-crushing. It is a perfect tale of love, loss and everything in between with superb acting from the entire cast. It touches on subjects that are raw and real, and I’d urge anyone that hasn’t seen this yet to watch it!

Wow. Totally unexpected how great this film was. This movie comes directly from Michael Gondry's mind. We follow a man named Joel who discovers his girlfriend has gone through a medical procedure that erases him from her memory. He then seeks to do the same; chaos follows. The attention to detail and extremely accurate depiction of the human consciousness trying to get over/let go of someone is impeccable. As a person who has gone through this struggle, an audience member can look at the film and say "That's so true " many times in this film. Carrey's performance was great, as was Kate Winslet's. The writing of this film is one of the best I have ever seen. Great watch.

Loved it. Very good acting. For an early 2000s romance (almost sci-fi) movie, it’s my favorite. The movie props are very well thought out. Very interesting plot and believable technology.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004, (soft) R, 105-mins, $74M w/w) You know, I had never watched this movie before, so on its 20th anniversary year, it's free to watch on Youtube so why not? Kate Winslet plays "Clementine" who within the first 15-mins seems miscast in this role which should've been played by someone much younger, early to mid 20s given her capricious, immature nature. It's weird how she just steamrolls herself into "Joel's" (Jim Carrey, also too old) life and he's not at all suspicious, she's got no friends, no other life it seems besides attaching herself to him, out of a seeming desperation. Anyway, Lacuna is a business that erases your memories of someone. Clementine erased hers of him, without him knowing, and he found out after she acted like she didn't know him. So he does the same, and the movie is much about his erase procedure where he's apparently semi-conscious, so he's reliving memories of his time with her while he's hearing the memory techs casual banter in his room during the procedure, and of course, he doesn't understand where these voices are coming from. But somehow he realizes he's in the memory-erase procedure and he also realizes that one of the techs had helped to erase Clementine's memories, fell for her, and is now dating her and using Joel's intimate letters/cards to Clementine as his own! Now, this realization apparently makes the automated erase procedure go awry, so Stan (tech) has to stop partying with Mary (admin asst) since Dr Howard is coming over to resolve the problem. They're worried that he'll know they're stoned and been goofing off, but they clean up pretty well. However, surely Dr Howard would've smelled the marijuana all over the small apartment. Then a stupid thing happens between Mary and Dr Howard and it turns out Mary had erased past intimacies with him! She goes rogue and sends memory-erase interview tapes to everyone who's had the procedure including Joel and Clementine. So in the end, what's it all about? It's a love story, the usual one where you're together, you break up, then you get back together, but this one has the memory-erase twist thrown in to make it different, but it's the same love story. Oh, if you do happen to watch this again, make a drinking game of how many times Clementine changes her hair color.

I think Jim Carrey can make great movies that are not comedy. I really feel him in this scenes.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind introduces audiences to a very interesting world, where one can wipe their memory of certain things, which was okay, until a mind-blowing reveal, which makes the picture come together. I really like the characters, I could really sympathize with Joel, while Clementine is very similar character to Jenny from Forrest Gump. She is extremely unpredictable, but also quite likeable. The acting performances are great. The concept of the film is amazing and the way they directed shot and edited this film was very good too. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an extremely interesting movie with likeable characters and a mind-blowing reveal.

The closed person was played by Jim Carrey, who has the role of open and cheerful characters. And the cheerful impulsive character, on the contrary, is Kate Winslet, who in most cases is embodied in serious characters (recall the most striking example of Rose from the Titanic). Did they get chemistry? Definitely yes. Was it weird? Definitely yes.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind reveals itself to be a deeply emotional story about love, memory, and what we can and cannot move on from. The superb Oscar-winning screenplay from Charlie Kaufman inspires two genuinely flawless performances from Carrey and Winslet.

This is a really weird movie. I had to watch it about 3 or 4 times before you really figure it out. It's a good concept but a bit confusing sometimes.

Easily one of the century's best. It is, however, confusing. Therefore, benefits mucho from repeated viewing. Romantic sad funny (did I say confusing? ambitious?) sometimes all at once. A helluva experience. If you haven't seen it, definitely Fasten your seatbelt for this one.

A miracle of a film that turns out to be a funny, endearing, heartbreaking science fiction romantic comedy. A true classic, one-of-a-kind. The magic of movies. This film is one of the representations of that.

Without the broken comedy bits and the irrational antagonists this could have been a 10. Still this movie is awesome. Truly unique in everyway possible. Definitely a must-watch!

Saw a 20th Anniversary showing in theaters. Great performances and direction throughout. Funny, moving and charming.

When I first saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I wasn't expecting to love it, let alone like it. What a surprise when I saw it! I think this film is wonderful in every aspect, truly beautiful and packs a full emotional punch. In fact, if you don't mind me saying so, it is one of my favourite films of the 2000s. I especially loved how Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was shot. The whole film looks beautiful, not only with the cinematography which is indeed spellbinding but also in the scenery which was nothing short of amazing. Another impressive asset was the soundtrack/score. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind doesn't have the best soundtrack/score I have ever heard in my life, but the score makes the film all the more moving, while the soundtrack is well selected and appropriate. I was also very taken with the story. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has one beautifully constructed story I can tell you, with an almost poignant message about it. It is strange and bizarre yes, but neither of those are bad, quite the contrary. Then there is the script which is both poignant and funny, not to mention very deep. The pacing very rarely feels boring if at all, and the direction is adept. I have very little to complain about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind's performances either. As good as the supporting performances are especially from the always splendid Tom Wilkinson, I have to give the real kudos to the leads. Jim Carrey has done some good performances in some good films, The Mask, Liar Liar, The Cable Guy and Bruce Almighty showcase his comedy talents wonderfully, but this and The Truman Show show he is perfectly good at drama too. He is very understated here, but it works as he still manages to be likable all the same. The real star though is Kate Winslet. A beautiful and captivating actress, Winslet is absolutely perfect in her role. Overall, wonderful film. Bizarre yes, but very tender and poignant helped by the exceptional performances and cinematography. 10/10 Bethany Cox

I keep coming back to this movie. I've watched it countless with friends & family or alone. Just the fact Jim Carey is in such a different role but still keeps his signature style proves a lot alone. Furthermore the soundtrack is truly magnificent. I love the concept of this movie and its executed to perfection. I still get chills writing this just thinking about how romantic and sad this movie is at the same time. Top 5 Movie for ME of ALL Time, but I'm 25 writing this so take it with a grain of salt.

This movie is simply amazing. Kaufman shows to be one of the finest directors and screenplayer of his generation for this tear jerker romantic comedy that will make you laugh at a moment and cry one moment later with also stunning performances by both Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet at their best here. One of the greatest movies of XXI century without a doubt.

I’m not really a fan of romance films but this one is really good. It’s a black mirror like idea that makes you think. Although most of the movie is just memories it still grabs ahold of you and makes you wonder what happens next.

One of the most inventive and creative movies I have seen in a while, the storytelling is very unique and Jim Carrey knocks it out of the park with his acting. This movie is also packed with other stars that also give great performances.

Rather surprising and unique. Frankly I don't understand any negative reviews. Carrey and Winslet are powerful. The writing is that of a complex force of nature. I most definitely enjoyed it.

Memeories are important to go on in life, even if they are painful. Although let's face it, we all wish we could forget something or someone in our lives. That's what makes this movie such a personal experience. It makes us confront our own heartaches instead of ignoring them. That's the way to move on. It's painful, and this movie doesn't hide that fact. This is really special.
