Taylor can’t juggle the different tones, and as Sue tries to stay a step ahead of the crooks and the cops as her lies threaten to unravel, the film’s attempts at societal critique feel facile.

Breaking News in Yuba County features a pitch-perfect Janney at the center of a game cast of well-knowns. Yet as it fumbles through its unwieldy mix of crime-caper farce, social commentary and black comedy, the genre it most solidly nails is the one that poses the burning question "Why did so many accomplished actors sign on to this?"

Cleverly done. You yell "WTF" so many times as you continue watching. A good comedy. Good and silly... I loved it. I totally get it

It’s the kind of movie that seems to suck your soul out while you’re watching it, variably crass and slapstick humor landing with a bloody thud.

None of the curious friction of its story, nor in its cast, results in any sort of frisson of excitement, dread, or even shock. The best Yuba can inspire is indignation. You get all these folks together, Tate Taylor, and the end result is this?

Breaking News in Yuba County lacks both the form and substance to cash in on its acting assets.

A farce that fizzles, a satire that sags, and a dead-end for its gifted cast, Breaking News In Yuba County at least starts well.

One may wonder how Tate Taylor, who has overseen high-profile, conventional, ostensibly respectable Hollywood product like “The Girl on the Train” and “The Help,” came to direct this amoral, repellent bag of sick, a movie whose biggest ambition in life is to start a bidding war at a late 1990s Sundance Film Festival and then bomb at the box office. Call it water finding its own level, maybe.

Looking at the trailer of the film, it looks like a well-made and well-made film, which shows a combination of crime and cover-up, ordinary life events with humor. The crime scene was done in a comedy style, which made the movie interesting.

I liked it. Don't know why so many disliked it, I think it was a quirky black comedy type movie. Not saying it doesn't have flaws and so on, but I did enjoy it

Allison Janney stars as an under-appreciated housewife who decides to get attention by exploiting her missing husband (Matthew Modine). Since he was indeed involved in nefarious activities, this spirals into a madcap string of events involving an assortment of rather bland characters played by Regina Hall, Awkwafina, Juliette Lewis, Mila Kunis, Ellen Barkin and Wanda Sykes (who manages the only laffs in the whole film playing herself). While all of these accomplished actors are doing their best, the rather bland script doesn't give them much opportunity to shine. Director Tate Taylor (The Help & The Girl on the Train) keeps the pace up and handles the few quick violent scenes with aplomb, but even with the jigsaw puzzle of predicaments, he can't overcome the lack of solid or amusing original writing.

Considerando o elenco, não sei o que diabos eles queriam fazer aqui. Este é um fracasso total, em todos os sentidos.

Considering the cast, I don't know what the hell they wanted to do here. This is a total failure, in every single way.
