If you crossed The Vow with Dark City, we would get the sci-fi horror thriller Affection.

This nifty little movie keeps you guessing and when it eventually shows its hand, there’s still plenty of mileage left in the characters.

Affection remains intriguing throughout, and often admirable in its ambition, but it never quite trusts the very themes that make it worth caring about in the first place.

The sci-fi thriller certainly has some bumps along the road, but a dedicated performance from Jessica Rothe helps amplify it into an intriguing ride that cleverly showcases the actor's impressive range.

As a metaphor for the soft coercion of traditional gender roles, it works, although the theme is secondary to the twists in writer-director BT Meza’s sci-fi/horror hybrid.
