Rarely has so scary a thriller been so well made, and never has digital video -- by the English cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle -- been put to grittier use.

28 Days Later is one of those movies that still hold up, even though the filming of it is pretty poor in the modern world because it was shot digitally on some of the first digital cameras. This film changed the landscape of zombies forever. It also launched Cillian Murphy into ****. The way the zombies are portrayed in this film during the time period it was made make it feel like a Body Horror film. Cillian Murphy wakes up to a Disaster when the world ended while he was in a coma. The virus is similar to Planet of the Apes as far it creating a Dystopian Sci-Fi world. This film is Epic in how it created a new style of zombies in our world. These are some of the scariest zombies out there which makes them feel like a Monster Horror. Several of the characters are dealing with the fate of their world and surviving in it mentally in this Psychological Drama. It is hard to know you may have to kill someone you love which would cause Psychological Horror to a person. Our main characters have heard of a safe zone and take a Road Trip to try and find it. The Rage virus terrifies the world in this Sci-Fi Epic.

Nostalgia points aside, this film was my gateway into the horror genre at the ripe old age of 11. This movie holds such a special place in my heart due to the impression it left on me all those years ago. Every aspect of this film was absolutely stellar and the casting was so ahead of its time.

Mr. Boyle has hardly lost his sly, provocative perversity or his ear for the rhythms of unchecked violence, but he does seem to be maturing. It's as if, in contemplating the annihilation of the human race, he has discovered his inner humanist.

A tough, smart, ingenious movie that leads its characters into situations where everything depends on their (and our) understanding of human nature.

The look of the film, shot on digital video, is haunting and gritty. The cleaner, prettier look of 35mm would have detracted from the immediacy and sense of foreboding created in this artful blend of sci-fi and pseudo-realism.

[Boyle] shrugs off any intellectual pretense to rollick in a dead-on scare fest. On that level, 28 Days Later is indeed a frightfully good time.

Unrelentingly grim, unremittingly gross and unforgivably unattractive, 28 Days Later is an orgy of troubling images and bestial sound effects.

a perfect fit. a post-apocalyptic story presented in a psychological and visceral way, one of the best written and constructed zombie films. '28 days later' is the peak of the genre. cillian murphy deserved at least an award for his incredible performance; his character is deeply developed and unforgettable. the audiovisual quality surpasses many contemporary films, especially considering it was made in 2002, before the format truly caught up with modern standards. the soundtrack choice is excellent, and the character development is precise and well-crafted. the ending is, in my opinion, the best possible conclusion for this story. i never expected that kind of closure for these characters, and since the movie already had me hooked, it sealed my rating as a perfect film.

It’s actually very surprising this movie spawned a franchise because it was a slog to get through. From the camcorder quality, unmastered audio and very, very sloppy writing, I don’t know how this became synonymous with ‘classic.’
