Taking control over the fictitious banana republic Tropico is still very entertaining. The changes from Tropico 3 are not overwhelming, but for new players the learning curve is a bit steep. However Tropico 4 is an addictive title and a safe alternative to Theme - and Sim -games.

A well-made instalment of the great game trying not to innovate itself, but pleasing its hardcore fans or newcomers nonetheless – by its new campaign with more assignments, an import option and by a several new buildings addition. One is just wondering why there are still some flaws in the game and why the Tropico 4 does not bear a title of an expansion pack?

The game expands and improves the series, making it more approachable than ever, but without losing depth, so it offers the same fun, but improved. However, it evolves little in comparison with the previous entry, so those who enjoyed Tropico 3 won't find many new things in this fourth installment.

Overall though, Tropico 4 was a delightful experience. It made some incredibly useful changes and additions to gameplay while maintaining the heart of the Tropico series. And the annoyances were few and far between enough that this title is worth turning on again and again. Viva la Tropico!

Tropico 4 is the top simulation game I'll be recommending to genre newbies and fans alike.

Игра в которую я влюбился по трейлерам, игра которая влюбила меня в ходе прохождения. Отличная сюжетная компания, большой функционал микроэкономики и менеджмента. Это очень качественная игра, учитывая её стоимость, рекомендую.

This game is a positive surprise for me. Of course I have the Complete Edition with all DLC. I didnt play the Tropico 3, so I cant compare it and cant complain that it is more or less the same. The gameplay is great, especially because it has a campaign, that is even well done. In the campaign you need to build up an isle with different strategies, what is exactly, what I want in such simulations. But the campaign could be shorter or more diversified, because you build up islands from the start all the time. Could be a better idea to take some islands and solve problems (like in the scenarios in the sim city games). But overall I like this game even more than the popular Sim City franchise. In addition all the political mechanics are reasonable to me, especially I like the 8 political fractions and how to handle them. The atmosphere is great also with a cool humour and nice hints on the practical side of the politics. It is a fun to zoom into the streets and watch the normal day by your citizens. The devs could put in much more and better music, but for that I hear to some caribbean/ hawaiian music via youtube. And yes, the natural desasters are not fun, especially, when they come so often, very frustrating. There are challenges, but they are blank, because you need to download them and the connection to the server is not working. The DLC Modern Times is bad, you can read about it in the DLC page.

Accomplished, amusing city-builder sequel that's more evolution than revolution. [Nov 2011, p.64]

It's best to look at Tropico 4 as port of entry for new players. If you've never set sail for the island paradise's sunny climes, you'll be happy to know that the improvements allow you to enjoy a more accessible version of Tropico 3 without feeling like they've dumbed-down the content.

Tropico 4 is a likeable and engaging sequel that expands on its predecessor but doesn't offer much new depth.

Tropico 4 is hardly a full-fledged sequel; it's more of an expansion – utterly derivative, but well-polished – that got its number somewhere in the marketing department.

Whoever already owns a copy of a previous Tropico chapter won't find many reasons to buy this new chapter, gameplay is just the same and new features are too few to justify a full price.

Fun strategy game. However it does not bring new elements to the genre. Still playable.

Barely an improvement over Tropico 3, cheap money grab from a studio that should have done more to evolve their game

I'm really torn what vote to give this game. I really am. As a stand alone game, it surely deserves at least an 9. As a successor to Tropico 3, it deserves a heartfelt zero. Why? Because this game is in fact Tropico 3 with new buildings. As an addon to T3, it would have received a gold star. As a standalone game and full price title, it feels like a horrible rip off. This is, essentially Tropico 3 with a few new twists. Graphics? Same. I am not kidding, I am not exaggerating, even the buildings look EXACTLY the same as in T3. They are EXACTLY the same models with the same graphics. The character generation (i.e. how you make your El Presidente) has changed slightly, but again nothing that an addon could not have achieved. This is pretty much the only difference to the T3 addon Absolute Power, which also came with a new campaign and a few new buildings.
SummaryTropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers -- and you, as El President...
