Beautiful small indie game with a lot of charm and a gripping emotional story.

--- [95/100] --- Despite its short playtime, To the Moon manages to move you emotionally for the vast majority of the gameplay. The story's writing is solid and full of major plot twists; additionally, its narrative pacing is perfect, leaving no dull moments and letting you fully enjoy the experience. Add to this a simply wonderful sound design, featuring a small but beautifully crafted soundtrack, and the result is the best narrative adventure I have ever played. Hats off to Freebird Games!

I absolutely love this game. Its tragic and heartwarming theme is wonderful. The art style is simple but fantastic. The music doesn't have a lot of variety but every piece, especially the one later in the game, is perfect for the theme and pleasing to the ear and heart. I have been gaming since the early 80s, put tens of thousands of hours into games, love rpgs/fps/horror and highly recommend this to anyone with a heart or anyone who wants to have a game make them feel something. Fans of Earthbound, Undertale, etc will likely find the game as worthwhile and rewarding as I have. I hope you find the ~4 hours to play this gem.

While I found it intriguing from the very beginning and for about a quarter of the walk-through, by the middle I found myself literally forcing myself to keep playing. It's incredibly boring. It's a little girl's game for other little girls. Yes, I understood the central tragedy with its important memory and character, but it's just so foolish: spending years making paper rabbits instead of saying. This is a drama **** from the finger in its most extreme form. And this in itself wouldn't be a problem if the game-play were engaging, but it isn't. The entire game-play is in running from point to point, clicking random objects, and constantly solving very simple puzzles (all the same). I suppose games like this deserve to exist for a certain audience, like girly manga or soap operas for housewives. But such a high rating is simply astounding.

Un gran juego, excelente historia, narrativa, personajes y musica.Mucha gente se queja de que el juego es solo ir de un lugar a otro leyendo dialogos y aguantando chistes estupidos y segun forzados.tambien se quejan de que hubiera sido mejor si fuera un libro, serie o pelicula.Dicen que solo tiene una buena historia, que lo unico que destaca es la musica y que es mucho potencial desperdiciado en el lenguaje del **** creo que hay que disfrutar el juego como es. Asi tenga chistes estupidos, asi sea repetitivo y lento ir de un lugar a otro, asi hubiera sido mejor como un libro, serie o pelicula, asi la historia y la musica sea lo unico rescatable, es un juego que se debe disfrutar como es. No todo es perfecto, ni tiene que serlo ni lo sera. En ningun momento se me hizo aburrido o lento, porque disfrute cada detalle, estuve 5 horas seguidas pasandome el juego y la experiencia no hubiera sido la misma que si lo jugaba cada cierto tiempo, es una historia que te engancha y que cada vez te deja con mas preguntas que al final entre lagrimas son respondidas.nunca suelo llorar, no soy para nada sensible y mucho menos con videojuegos, pero este juego me saco 3 lagrimas, chiquitas pero muy pocos juegos han logrado siquiera hacerme sentir ganas de **** una maravilla de juego que se debe disfrutar por como es, no por como deberia ser, me da igual si seria mejor con x aspectos o sin x aspectos, yo disfrute el juego tal cual como es y es lo que deberian hacer todos y no solo con este juego sino con todos los que existen. Ahora lo malo... me molesta cuando despues de un momento sentimental hay un chiste estupido, como dije no me molestan los chistes pero despues de momentos sentimentales si, la musica que es increible pero es bastante repetitiva, pudieron haber hecho mas (en cuanto a cantidad, no calidad). En conclusión no todo es perfecto ni deberia ser perfecto simplemente es, y asi se tiene que disfrutar, como es, no como deberia ser.

As vezes você gosta de um jogo e não entende o motivo , seja porque ele te fez sentir algo bom, ou porque vc achou o jogo bonito, ou porque ele te fez lembrar de sua infância... São inúmeros motivos que te fazem gostar de um jogo, mas To the Moon é um daqueles que te faz lembrar o motivo de você gostar de jogos, é incrível como uma historia simples e "Discutível" pode ser contada de maneira tão leve. To the Moon não é perfeito mas com uma trilha sonora que beira isso, e uma historia que te faz pensar um pouco sobre a vida.

To the Moon, kesinlikle güzel ve duygusal bir oyun. Ancak hakkında yapılan abartılı övgüleri hak ettiğini düşünmüyorum. Oyunu oynarken keyif alsam da, hikayesinin aslında daha iyi olmasını bekliyordum. Belki de beklentimi fazla yüksek tutmamdan kaynaklanıyordur. Yine de herkesin deneyimlemesi gereken, tatlı diyalogları ve müzikleri ile keyifli bir oyun olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

Aventura narrativa con estilo visual de 16 bits y con una historia emotiva y profunda. A pesar de tener un contexto triste y bonito, el juego cuenta con buenos toques de humor por parte de algunos de los personajes y la banda sonora acompaña muy bien con el tono del juego. Por otro lado, la jugabilidad y las mecánicas son muy limitadas por la propia naturaleza del género pero no llega a cansar ya que el juego es cortito y en unas 4 horas ya lo terminas. Muy recomendado.

Pretentious derivative click simulator. To call this game a walking simulator is an insult to walking simulators. It is more like a clicking simulator. It’s kinda like if a cut-scene from a JRPG like FF6 got stretched out into a 5-hour game. Terrible forced and corny dialogue, endless unskippable slow motion pans and fades, a story so nonsensical and full of plot holes that it could have only have been conceived of by a moron, “puzzles” so repetitive and simple you can solve them by clicking randomly.Your choices DO NOT MATTER AT ALL. The story just happens. You are there to read text and **** music is good, but EXTREMLY derivative of games like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Like, it has many of the EXACT same sounds and beats as those games and other JRPGs at times.There is a song at one point (sung well by a professional) but the lyrics! SO BAD. Like what a 23-year art student with no real world experience and English as a second language would write as a “moving” dramatic song, like almost bad enough that if were used in an episode of South Park you would think it was a joke. I passed the headphones to my wife (a trained singer) at one point, after ten seconds she shook her head and said “embarrassing.”I have NO idea how this game scores as high as it does or gets the review scores as high as it does.I can only assume that friends and family of the game devs have flooded sites with positive reviews and there is some friendships with gaming journalists to get positive reviews. What they are TRYING to do is actually kinda cool, the core idea is there, the execution is just extraordinarily BAD. SO SO SO BAD. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT GET FOR FREE. DO NOT WASTE 5 HOURS OF YOUR LIFE PLAYING.

Amazing story. The start is slow, but if will can play the first hour, you will deep on the most stories of the video games.

Si tuviese que valorar el juego como tal, no lo recomendaría, pues es muy básico, lento y simple, con mecánicas muy desfasadas. Sin embargo, la experiencia de jugarlo sí que es recomendable. El apartado artístico es sobresaliente, con unos gráficos bonitos, pese a las limitaciones del pixel art. Sonoramente es hermoso, siendo una de las melodías que más profundo me han llegado, pese a su simpleza y la historia es impresionante. En definitiva, un regalo para los sentidos que nadie se debería perder, pese a venir en un envoltorio un tanto cutre

To The Moon bize ölmek üzere olan bir adamın son dileğini yerine getirmeye çalışan doktorları anlatıyor. Bu doktorlar adamın anılarında takılıyor ve olanlar oluyor. Oyun genel olarak Point&Click tarzında ilerliyor. Özellikle bizim üzerimizden dönen çok bir şey yok. Belirli yerlere tıklıyoruz oyun zaten kendi akıyor. Oyun akış hızını mükemmel ayarlıyor. Kendi içinde bir mizahıyla , arada bir çıkardığı minik bulmacalarla , müzikle , olan olaylarla falan. Oyun akıp gidiyor. Hikaye müziklerin de etkisiyle beraber gözümüzden yaş akıtmayı da eksik etmiyor. Oyun pixel art tarzında. Daha önce çok pixel art tarzında oyun oynadım ama bu direk film tarzında olduğundan mıdır bilmiyorum ama oldukça güzel detaylar keşfettim pixel art olmasına rağmen. Yani baya uğraşılmış. Oynamayı kesinlikle öneriyorum. Bence bir hikayeli oyun klasiği. 🅖🅤🅜🅤🅢

We usually rate a video game by how much it enternained us playing it. And when we finished it we usually put it in our shelf and move on to the next game. But every now and then we come across a game that does break through this cycle that lets us viewing a game just as a media for entertainment or as a good to be consumed. Which enthrals us and evokes an experience that we haven't ever had before. The technical design of To the Moon is not very impressive, particularly if viewed from todays perspective. The graphics have only a low resolution as they were created with the RPG Maker. And the gameplay is quite simplistic and does not really categorise the game as belonging to the adventure game genre. But the interface used for the game was only utilised to tell a story that is mindblowing and which will never be forgotten by anyone who played this game, I am sure. The atmosphere and emotions are masterfully enhanced by the wonderful music by Kan Gao who is the creator of the game. The story of To the Moon is about life and death. About friendship. And about our dreams.

Un juego de esos que necesitas jugar por su historia. Una historia que te engancha y te deja marca, con una jugabilidad que tan solo busca amenizar un poco la información que te van soltando en la que cada detalle es clave, no lo dejes escapar.

A very unassuming game that might not look like much at first glace, but quickly takes you on a journey that you will not soon forget. An extremely emotional adventure through a man's life that is told in a clever way and well worth your time. One of the best and most memorable stories I have ever experienced in a game. An absolute must play.

Very good music, depressed melancholic atmosphere, gameplay is simple. It's worth playing for the atmosphere, but nothing extra.

The only reason this game isn't a 10/10 is because the gameplay is very simple. The story and especially the music more than makes up for it nonetheless.

To the Moon, while not exactly a game, provides to be an unique experience, one that's worth looking into. It's not very long, the story is engaging, and the way it tells the story of Johnny and his quest to go to the moon make it an experience worth playing for anyone.

Erfordert starke Nerven und Geduld, die Geschichte ist nämlich sehr "besonders" aber doch schön. P.S. Achievement gibts nur, wenn es spätestens am Ende auf der Brücke auf Englisch gestellt wurde.

One of my favourite games ever, period. This is truly a masterpiece, the narrative and the music are simply amazing. It's very good also the pixel art graphic style. The only drawback is from the technical point of view, the engine performs quite badly and the screen ratio is not well handled. But I cannot give less than a 10 just for what it made me feel.

Great story. Many, many tears were had. I ugly cried. Movement and gameplay is a bit clunky in parts, and in parts I wished it would hurry the story along. Otherwise, great game.

Beautiful story, presentation, art style, and soundtrack. Made me cry and laugh within a 5 minute period. However, the gameplay adds nothing to the product. If the story was below average the game would be unplayable. The controls were clunky; moving the characters around was frustrating. I might have even enjoyed the game more if it was on auto-pilot and I didn't have to touch the keyboard and mouse. Still, awesome story. Will definitely give the sequel a try.

To the Moon is a psychological drama adventure game developed and published by Freebird Games. The story follows two doctors who offer to fulfill a dying man's last wish using artificial memories. The game features relatively few gameplay mechanics, with the player controlling the two doctors, exploring the narrative and solving puzzles as they try to reconstruct the dying man's memories in order to fulfill his wish.

Period." - Bruce Stracci Where do I begin to even describe this masterpiece of an RPG/Visual Novel? I guess I should start by giving some context: This game made an impact right away on my first playthrough a couple of years ago. Something in regards to the story, pace, humor, and how everything is perfectly crafted. I've recently re-played the entire saga, in light of the arrival of "Impostor Factory". The sheer amount of details that can easily be missed, may become important later on in future games. "To the Moon" is, in my opinion at least, the best game of this franchise so far. To even talk about the story in this review would be a disservice to how it was presented to me by Kan Gao and his amazing team, so I won't go into much detail over it. It's one of those games that needs to be played before you pass away. It's THAT GOOD. In regards to the minisodes: They are two isolated but very lore-important chapters that can be easily ignored by the player. I think it's MANDATORY to play them, before exploring both sequels "Finding Paradise" and "Impostor Factory" - But perhaps Minisode 2 spoils a LOT of the fun for the future installments of the series (This is especially noticeable in "IF"). I still will recommend playing them despite everything. Now, for the more technical part: Story: 9.5/10 - This is the strongest part of the game. To The Moon can be played in less than two hours if you are that focused, however, it's best to take the time and take it easy with this. Johnny and River's story is a tragic one, and the slower you take it, the further you understand the main conflict and motivation of his final wish. This is half a point away from the perfect score, however, as I feel the story at times can be too reliant on "comedic" moments where it kind of drives away the urgency of the plot. Gameplay: 6/10 - Oof, just OOF. Let me be clear: I'm familiar with RPGMaker games, and with similarly-created RPG titles. An RPG maker game can have both nice gameplay, and a visually stunning graphics, TODAY (titles like Omori, Lisa the Painful, Grimms Hollow came with a more powerful version of the engine) For the time this first title was created, gameplay wise is very similar to older games of it's era, considering titles such as Yume Nikki and Lisa the First, to name a few. If I were to judge with modern standarts, this score would be lower, but cosidering that this game is more than a decade old, and first came out in 2011, I think it's decent enough. The minimalistic style, lack of combat areas, difficult navigation at times, and certain bugs that I encountered during my second playthough didn't make it an enjoyable experience. The most FRUSTRATING aspect of this game are two moments that I can remember: The first being the frustrating "memento activation minigame" which I think adds nothing but extending unnecessarily the game and breaking the pace of this game - this mechanic was further improved in "FP", with the same problems, and outright removed in "IF", so I think it was really unnecessary. The second moment highlights one of the biggest flukes in terms of gameplay: This was SUCH A MISSING OPPORTUNITY, GAMEPLAY WISE! I still think that the game would greatly benefit from some sort of combat mechanics. Overall, It could be so much better, but it's understandable given the context. Characters: 10/10 - The main cast (Eva & Neil) have such chemistry together. Their back and forth, not only as playful banter, but also in the more "serious" moments of the story is such a delight to see, and the way they interact with both the patient and the world is what sold me from literally the opening scene. The supporting cast has also a lot of "believability" to them, and I could immerse myself right in the story. This also applies to the minisodes, where we get to meet some of their co-workers and see the relations from a different perspective. Nothing else to add, since that would ruin the fun of the first gameplay for the uninitiated ones. Original Sound Track (OST) - 10/10 - Also a perfect score. Not only the ambient music mind you, but the experience really compliments the experience - Fun fact: A couple of years ago, and 5-6 years after my first and only playthrough of this game, a friend of mine played "For River/To the Moon" (the main theme of this game) just for fun at the piano. I instantly recognized the song, despite not having any contact with the game in a long time. It's THAT GOOD. Accessibility: 9/10 - Yes, this is a very easy game to pick up, especially if you are new to videogames, or just a casual player. Since it can take you no more than 4 hours if you take your time to complete the main story, and right now is a very cheap game to get, it's very accessible. Overall review: 9/10 - This is a very good game, and you need to play it. Period.

A truly tearful story that engages you from start to finish. characters characterized really well that thanks to their dialogues make you look away from a type of woody and cumbersome gameplay. Truly sublime ost that make you immerse yourself even more in this melancholy mood.

This isn't a game for everyone. Mostly because it isn't much **** at all. This is an interactive story experience that is so good, you'll probably finish it without taking a break. The characters are fun, the music is beautiful and the game deserves every single tear you will shed.

If you want to cry :) +2 for one of the best OST very nice game if I need to compare among all other games by the way.

I liked the bittersweet emotional story. The artstyle and music is decent and fitting. The game mechanics was a little dull and the goofy personality of the protagonists didn't really match the seriousness of the story.

As others say story is nice and touching but seriously game mechanics and design is just atrocious. Among worst offenders are: - loading times between very small levels, levels so small could be easily loaded in memory - invisible doors - sometimes it is not possible to tell door from the wall - worst offender are one particular doors made in place that everywhere else in game is impassable wall (ragged memory edge) - clunky movement, easy to get stuck on the edge of something - dialogs can't be fast forwarded However, despite those issues game can really enthrall player into it's melancholic magic circle. I'd recommend this game only for people who like this kind of sob stories.

I do not actually know, what to write here. Just play this one. You'l have zero regrets.

To The Moon Here comes the tears. To the Moon is a 4 and a half hour long narrative adventure about a man who loses his wife, a couple years have passes, he is now on his death bed, and he has one final wish.. to go to the moon. He cant remember why, but this is all he wants.. so he hires an agency to come in and help him do just that.. and to do that they go into his memories and slowly go back in time one memory at a time to push him on the path to joining nasa… here youll be reliving Johns life through the eyes of these two agents.. Niel and Eva.. aand their banter is hilarious, theres tons of humor here to be found across this emotional journey, theyre here just doing job, but you cant help but get attached to the love store.. unplaying out right infront of your eyes, from his last moments with his wife River, to their marriage, their first date.. the story telling here is amazing.. in each memory you have a goal, find mementos.. items that can take you deeper and deeper into Johns memories, once you find 5, you can then solve a simple picture puzzle to use that item and go back.. over and over and over, until you can finally get to the right moment to put him on his path to going to the moon.. If to the moon a little too drawn out thouh? Yeah.. I wouldn’t cut too much from this game, but there are definitely moments here and there that could’ve been tightened up, and going through the larger memories in general just isn’t really enjoyable.. the hcarcters move pretty slowly, and youre not realy sure what you should be interacting with, youre kinda just going up to everything in sight, wondering what is it im missing, to make matters worse, though rare.. there are a couple of items where you have to be in the perfect spot to interact with it… for example the table in the beginning, he elevator towards the end.. or even walking of the stairs to the liht house in one sequence.. Negatives aside, To the Moon is a beautiful game made even more beautiful with updated visuals, and a story guaranteed to make you cry at least twice.. I give to the moon an 8.5/10
