One of the best action-stealth titles in years and the first serious contender for the “2014 Game of the Year” contest.

A great game as is, although it has a few very patchable issues that could really put it over the top.

All in all, Thief successfully ticks the right boxes on the PlayStation 4, although it's not a totally next-gen experience.

Thief succeeds as a good reboot, and also as an interesting offering in the action and stealth genre. An awesome setting, composed of great artistic work and a superb dubbing, is Eidos Montreal's best asset.

Despite my deep reservations regarding the reboot of my favorite character and the world he inhabits, Thief manages to deliver a compelling experience.

Following in the steps of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex, an old franchise returns fresh, accessible to a wider audience, but still remains true to its origins.

Despite some of Thief’s annoyances, the game is rich in detail and hard to put down.

Eidos Montreal's take on Garret and the City comes as a surprise when you consider the hardcore stealth gameplay. On the other hand, newcomers and casual players also can have their fun, granted by the very well-thought difficulty system. The storytelling is quite disappointing, and story missions are definitely too linear in many aspects, but secondary quests and thieving in general are well developed and solid, making this game an interesting choice for all the stealth fans out there, despite its shortcomings.

With sharper AI and more considered NPC behaviour, Thief could have been a masterpiece. There are true flashes of brilliance, and they’re not rare, but they’re almost always offset by something that breaks the immersion or otherwise shakes the foundations of the game world.

Eidos-Montreal may have adhered too closely to the series’ roots, resulting in a reboot that suffers from classic problems like simplistic combat and trial-and-error sneaking missions. However, locked behind this old-school game design is a gem that stealth fans should eye up for their collection.
