The Ascent provides you with a unique opportunity to visit the not-so-distant dystopic future of our world in an action-packed manner and also in a graphically astonishing way. Its various possibilities of character creation allow for a unique playthrough and replayablity.
The Ascent has an excellent shooting experience and is great for playing with friends. However, apart from "shooting another wave of enemies", the game can bring very limited fun. The dull story and gameplay will easily bore you in this cyberpunk world.

Many games go for the cyberpunk vibe lately, but few can live up to this style as good as The Ascent does. [Issue#255, p.44]

Not too bad shooter, good visuals, atmosphere with decent gameplay actually but in general its very mid. In the ascent you are someone trying to live its day to day on a cyberpunk distopic world full of war, neon and capitalism. The best thing this game does is atmosphere and visual ambientation, everything was greatly designed, with care and fine detail. Even tho its a top down shooter you still apreciate how good it looks. But aside from this, its pretty forgetable The gameplay was not bad. The shooting was fun, it had impact and there is some enemy variety but its very, very simple and basic. The rpg mechanics/stats exist but dont expect anything complex. Its core was well designed but its just way too simple and it can wind up being repetitive And the story. I cant say much about it cause to be honest i just couldnt get into it. The characters are forgettable, the dialogues are always using acronymes for everything and it expects you to read every single thing in the codex to understand properly, but its a boring world to make me bother. Its just about a Joe who is quite violent and you get to do jobs for a fat guy and then for a fat girl, like you could say its a bit more complex than that, but its maybe the only game that i couldnt bother less to follow it. Overall, if you love top downs you would like this for its gameplay and atmosphere, also it has coop, but dont expect nothing that you will remember forever. If you arent a fan of these things i would play in ps plus or gamepass. If you really like the premise or these kind of stuff then maybe 5 or 10$

*A great game, especially in terms of ambientation. The cyberpunk world portrayed is exciting, pleasing to the eyes and with a interesting storyline. and while it's not groundbreaking in any way, the game delivers on the basics well done.* Um ótimo jogo, especialmente em termos de ambientação. O mundo cyberpunk retratado é emocionante, agradável aos olhos e com um enredo interessante. E embora não seja inovador de forma alguma, o jogo entrega o básico com perfeição.

The Ascent is fun at first and it definitely has a great cyberpunk dystopian aesthetic that immediately draws you into its world, but it ends up being a little shallow on the gameplay side, with little to actually do or interact with other than blowing **** up. The rpg mechanics are too limited, and the unbalanced difficulty spikes that aren't really necessary can add a bit of frustration. One minute it's a little too easy and the next it's nearly impossible. All that is fine once you get the trick of it down, but still, the gameplay is too simple, repetitive, and involves far too much idle time walking around between fetch points and backtracking. Additionally, it's still riddled with bugs after four years. During my time with it I experienced numerous sound glitches, graphical stutters, crashes, and at one point my guns just stopped firing mid combat. There's also a weird sound bug where the gun sounds keep firing long after the battle has finished. I would say the only real plus to this game is the graphically stunning and detailed open world which is truly a marvel to gaze at.

The Ascent is for the most part a polished experience that's tons of fun to play and behold. The narrative will carry you along to many interesting places with different baddies to fry, though a few encounters feature enemies that are pure bullet sponges. You will need to pick the right equipment and keep up with leveling, but these issues can be overcome. Hardware requirements shouldn't hold you back too much, and glitches are few and far between. The overall quality makes this one a must play for cyberpunk and isometric shooter fans.

Beautiful to fall for, fun and nervous, The Ascent is a generous twin stick shooter, which evolves in a coherent world with neat lore. If the optimization of the game as the ergonomics of the navigation or the interface remain to be reviewed and can sometimes be frustrating, the whole is sufficiently solid on its shoot part as an RPG to occupy you for long hours, solo or with friends . A great way to get back on track for the small team of Neon Giant, whose game is available as soon as it is released on the Game Pass.

The Ascent is by far the most beautiful top-down shooter we have ever played. Fun combat and a glorious world make the experience worthwhile, even though the story, RPG elements and co-op modes leave a lot to be desired.

That becomes a bigger problem late in the game, where it resorts to the cheapest method of raising the difficulty by simply throwing high-level enemies at you in increasing numbers. In one battle, you're tasked with holding a position for a given amount of time, before being told that isn't enough; you must now finish off all the remaining enemies. At which point it has become clear that no matter how effective the synergy of our augs, mods and weapons may be, our survival hinges upon us grinding side-quests to raise our level. What a shame The Ascent should make the final steps of its climb so arduous - even if there is evidence here that its maker could yet go all the way to the top. [Issue#362, p.110]

Dashing from cover to cover while peppering enemies with bullets and lasers as you wait on cooldowns to reset is a truly exhilarating and tense moment The Ascent offers time and time again. Those moments are memorable and are unfortunately far less common than The Ascent’s pitfalls. I’m right near the end of the game’s main story after crossing off plenty of side missions, but with the charm of The Ascent’s firefights and scenery long since expired, there’s nothing much left to inspire confidence in what remains.

Just phenomonal. Great world building. Very satisfying combat. Amazing, immersive graphics. This was ten times more fun than cyberpunk. And the voice acting was great too. Don't understand why this isn't getting better reviews.

Would recommend. Review: Game is gorgeous and has a lot of set pieces to gaze upon while traversing the map. Weapon and ability sounds are very impactful and they sound amazing. There is a large selection of weapons, equipment, abilities to suite your play style. All dialog with quest NPCs are voiced and the quality is good. Game runs well. Negatives would be the story. It's really about nothing and kind of feels like you're on a job the whole time. Another problem is with the difficulty. There is something extremely wonky about it and looking at gameplay 3 years prior it seems like devs broke the flow with updates over that time. One example is a spider boss and it's near unbeatable on hard due to poor mechanics. Last thing worth to mention is the inventory UI is terrible and really hard to understand what exactly does what stat wise.

First it was way too easy so i had to set hard difficulty, until it became ridiculously hard even on normal. Game is really beautiful, too bad **** balance made me drop it.
