A classic. A game that never gets old. Makes you wonder if the SUPER MARIO movies ever glanced at this games adventure mode to get a sense of how to do a Mario movie well.

Meta Knight exists and tripping is stupid. But subspace is good, and Sonic being in Smash is cool.

This game changed my life. As a kid I only knew Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Bowser, Peach and Pikachu of the characters in the game. It opened my eyes to not only other Nintendo games but also video games as a whole. I can't thank it enough for that.

A stellar fighting game that preoccupied much of my time whenever I'd go to my friends houses

Another disgusting game, just like the Mario Strikers series. Why the **** are all these characters fighting?! Why can't they just be friends?! Surely it can't be that hard for them to be **** WAIT! THERE'S A WHOLE MODE DEDICATED TO THESE CHARACTERS BEING FRIENDS CALLED SUBSPACE EMISSARY! If Fox and Diddy Kong can be friends there, then why the **** do they beat each other up in every other mode in this god damn game?! More importantly, why the **** does Nintendo allow Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi to fight each other?! Aren't they friends in the Mario series?! They should NEVER be allowed to fight, especially here! Why are the Ice Climbers allowed to be a tag team, but not Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi?! Why make them hate each other?! This is unacceptable and I do not recommend this **** to anyone! I'm glad this series ended with Ultimate, I don't want Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi to fight each other anymore!

Brawl was a fun game I had lots of fond memories for. At the same time, it isn't perfect either. I remember being so excited back in 2008 as a teenager when I found out Squirtle was going to be playable along with Diddy Kong and Meta Knight. The boss fights were really cool and challenging, especially beating Tabuu. Brawl has Classic Mode and also has the Subspace Emissary which was the biggest standout from Brawl. This game also introduced building you own custom stages and I had so much fun doing that and getting creative with all of the custom stages I made. Despite all its strengths, I still couldn't give Brawl a perfect score. I couldn't give it a perfect because of that stupid tripping game mechanic implemented in this game. While this game isn't perfect, it still has lots of fascinating features that make me revisit it from time to time. Also the game has an amazing music soundtrack!

I had recently played through the story mode for this game. Just as I enjoyed it a decade ago as a child, I thoroughly had a blast as an adult. To start, it’s definitely not Smash at its best in terms of gameplay. The floaty feeling it has compared to the series’ successor, Ultimate, is difficult to find riveting. Naturally, some may prefer this—I much prefer my Smash game to be fast paced. But I can forgive all of that, seeing as Ultimate was definitely a build on, and Brawl is significantly older. The real draw of Brawl is its story mode: Subspace Emissary. In no other game can you find a story as mesmerizing as this. Watching such iconic, colorful characters from all different genres of video games come together to create an expansive world is something so special. To see them interact, too, is even better. It’s clear that Ultimate’s World of Light wanted to recreate this magical feeling, but it fell short in its lack of expressive storytelling. Subspace doesn’t feel like a Smash game, and that’s to its benefit. It feels like something that took the acclaimed Smash formula, and built a platformer around it to create a story that is expressed in ways other than words. Brawl is a gem. One of the standouts on the Wii, and in the Smash catalogue. If you ever want a taste of what Smash used to be, or are in the mood for a story based around its universe, Brawl is the quintessential Smash.

THIS GAME IS SO GOOD. The story mode is one of the best media i've ever consumed. The game is old but it looks beautiful. The roster is pretty goated compared to other games. Mechanics are good and controls still hold. Extras are pretty fun and the trophie mechanic is actually obessing. I would lie if I said I wasn't trying to get them all. Nothing wrong with this game. It's perfect. A HARD recommend

This actually might be one of the best fighting games ever. The graphics are good and the selection of fighters is nice. The stages are also designed well. But the showstopper here is Subspace Emissary (story mode). Meta Knight's a little too broken though.

SSBB is, in my opinion, the most enjoyable Smash game to play. Sure the characters are animated in a hyper-realistic depressed style, but it is a breath of fresh air for a series that depicts cutesy animals absolutely whooping some dudes in overalls. The Subspace Emissary was a solid story for what it was and the stage creation added ways to switch up your fighting experience. The classic and All-Star modes were also great. The only reason I did not rate this game a 10 is that the gameplay is just a tad bit too slow.

Only a weird pedo would play this weird pedo game. I hope everyone who made this game meets a premature end

A very fun entry for the Smash series. As a casual player who enjoys wacky stages and items, things like the smash ball and final smashes were an awesome addition to the series. New characters like Wario, King Dedede, and Sonic make their first appearances. And the story mode is engaging and somehow not repetitive for a fighting game.

Subspace Emissery was just that good. Seeing all of nintendo's famous chracters come together, was like watching Endgame. It may not be good as Melee. But it was enjoyable. 10/10

A good, solid smash bros. Although it’s not as good as some of the other ones, it’s still a great game with new characters and missions. Great Wii game and fits well in with the other smash games.

great game must have on the wii but it feels like casual players were the focus although subspace is actually the main reason to play this and if subspace was it own game i would even rank it higher than brawl in its entirety great story alright smash not a perfect but a good game none the less

I'm not that into this franchise and this is one of the few smash games I've actually played. I grew up with it so I am a bit biased but I've also only played Ultimate and 3DS besides it. I've heard people say that it's the worst in the series and maybe I'll have that same opinion after I've played the rest. (probably won't since I hate handheld games)

This game has some of the most fun campaigns, however this game suffers from being a series. Melee and Ultimate are both better and it ends of making this game feel useless cause you could play the others. But the music and game is still good so yeah 7/10.

True classic. Great story mode. Could have used more balanced characters, but that was achieved in Ultimate. I wish Ultimate had a bit better of a story to invest in. But overall, great game here!

I don't know who has a Wii these days, but I still have one and I love this game. The game doesn't have that much content, but it was what they had back in the day. 10/10.

I may be biased, but Brawl may just be one of the most important games ever. This game is the first video game I have ever played, and it was my gateway into the world of gaming. In the context of the game's release, this game expanded upon the Smash Bros. formula up until that point, incorporating third-party characters for the first time, a move that would create some of the most exciting discourse in gaming. The game isn't perfect, however, as returning to Brawl after playing any other game in the series highlights how painfully sluggish the game often feels. Random tripping and unbalanced characters make this game tough to take seriously for competitive play. In addition to that, this game is pretty ugly. However, the game does things that I wish Smash Bros. still did, like the Subspace Emissary mode, which while not that cohesive, made Smash Bros. feel like a universe. I understand why it never really came back, but that mode absolutely made my childhood.

Brawl is a celebration of video game history unlike any game that came before it - and in some ways, unlike any ever since.

Subspace emissary does it for me. Stage builder does it for me. Online does it for me. Special Smash does it for me. This is my first Smash game. There is definitely bias for that alone, but with the addition of Subspace story, this has to be my favorite entry. It offers more new and exciting upgrades than any smash before or after.

The story mode is nearly perfect and the roster is great for its size, easily one of the best games on the wii

Arguably the best in the series because of a few things. In terms of introducing new characters relative to Melee and easily the best in terms of Storyline. The game introduces characters within the Subspace Emissary and it makes me more worth it when unlocking new characters and the overall buildup.

This game has Olimar, so I was considering giving this game an 11 out of 10. But I do not like the random tripping, it was a weird decision to add it; so I could only really give this game a 10 out of 10, which is coincidentally the highest score this site lets me submit.

Le jeu st, à la base, excellent.Beaucoup de persos, et le smash bros le plus complet en terme de modes de jeu. Ma DA pref de smash Bros. Le mode histoire est un vrai banger, avec des cinématiques super cool. Les maps sont assez bien également. Cepandant, le problème est que le jeu a beaucoup trop d'aléatoire (la fameuse chute quand tu dash dance) et les persos sont VRAIMENT pas équilibrés, ce qui rend la compétition super chiante. Après,ça ne gêne pas si vous voulez juste jouer entre potes.

Brawl had some great additions to the franchise, including story mode, create a stage, Assist Trophies, and of course Final Smashes. It also adds plenty of new characters to an already solid roster of characters. Where it loses points, however, is in the slower paced gameplay, the random tripping, and the challenge modes not being as diverse/challenging as Melee.

The existence of the story mode alone already makes this game the best smash bros of the series. Sad that the gameplay of the entire franchise is not really the best it could be

It's pretty good, better than 4, absolutely. This game honestly gets more hate than it deserves, and really isn't that bad, unless of course you look at it from a competitive perspective. And even then it isn't that bad, random tripping isn't too frequent, although I think we've all seen the clips. Great game to just play with friends, and subspace puts World of Light to shame, not even close.

Despite its flaws, this game has its moments. The story mode is what everyone talks about with this game, and it’s easy to see why. It’s got platforming sections, enemies for you to kill, and by far the best part, the cutscenes. Despite being a Wii game, this game has by far the best graphics on the Wii. It runs at a smooth 60fps, every character is incredibly detailed, and it has this dull look that looks similarly to Twilight Princess. However this is all for the single player mode. As for the actual gameplay as a fighting game, it’s not great. Stiff controls, random tripping, and very low hit stun which makes it impossible to combo your opponents. But that’s honestly what makes it fun to go back and play it. It makes up for its wacky mechanics. You can chain grab for combos. Some are literal infinites. And I can’t mention Brawl without mentioning Meta Knight. Remember when I said you can’t combo? Well Meta Knight says NOPE! Ridiculously fast moves, great kill power, and amazing recovery is what makes this character the best in the whole series. This was also the first Smash Bros game to introduce non Nintendo characters, that being Snake and Sonic. Even though this game doesn’t have everything that makes Smash Ultimate so good, it’s still a fun time to go back to it every once in awhile and just laugh at the goofy stuff you wouldn’t see in future Smash games. And of course the story mode which is the main highlight of this game. If you haven’t played it, I highly recommend that you do. Plus it’s beginner friendly since that true combos don’t really exist. So if you want to start playing Smash Bros, this is a good one to pick up.

Online was broken, balancing wasn't great, mechanics were questionable... but it's still a masterpiece. The absolutely legendary newcomers, the outstanding new soundtrack, the radical new stages, and the unforgettable most badass crossover story ever mended all in this one package. Yes the game was "almost perfect", but it's also better than we deserved and so much more than we asked for. Thank you Nintendo for the best smash game to date.
