SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is basically what we’ve come to expect from the SteamWorld series, namely a well-realized take on an existing genre masterfully executed once again.

Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is an excellent addition to the Steamworld lineup and a fantastic game on its own merits. The story is simple but charming, and the gameplay alone is strong enough to carry players to the end. The sheer amount of customization and variety in character builds and combat offers a lot of enjoyable content to players both casual and hardcore. If you're a fan of RPGs, then you should try out Steamworld Quest. It's one of the most enjoyable indie titles on the Switch to date.

It's so much fun spending time in this game! The combat is really satisfying, the characters are distinctive and well developed, the graphics are gorgeous and the experience is engaging right through till the end. I finished this game 18 months ago and came back for another playthrough! Mechanically it is reasonably similar to Slay the Spire, but the big difference is that this is a story where you level up of your deck and your characters as you progress. Each character plays quite differently from the others and it's fun experimenting with different card combinations between battles. The one minor gripe I have with this game is that some of the boss battles seem unnecessarily long and grindy, but otherwise this is a really enjoyable 15 hour playthrough. Highly recommended!

If You like card games, this is one of the best out there. Only competition comes from Slay the spire, but its so different, this one is story driven, that focuses only on combat. Optimally buy both because they offer totally different gameplay and overall experience.

With wonderful combat and more charm than any game I can name off the top of my head Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is a very easy recommendation from me despite a few undercooked ideas.

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is beautifully driven forward by a touching and humorous story, while its engaging card-based battle system will keep you entertained. Once the experience is over, though, there is little replay value. Overall, another excellent addition to the SteamWorld franchise.

SteamWorld Quest plays it too safe to satisfy hardcore card-crawlers, but the campy characters, gratifying combat, and splashy synergies make it an enticing option for those looking for a traditional turn-based RPG that’s easy to wade into.

On the one hand SteamWorld Quest is a frustrating experience. Image & Form really needs to track down some writers that can weave tales into its intriguing and impeccably-designed SteamWorld universe. There's so much potential there that it's becoming tiring waiting for the team to tap into it. At the same time, SteamWorld Quest is also a delight to play, with a well-developed card-based combat system, gorgeous art and production values, and elegant gameplay structures. It's a game (and franchise) that wears its indie credentials on its sleeve, and it's hard to be too disappointed by its flaws for that reason.

The weakest of the recent SteamWorld games but still an enjoyable, if rather unfair, mix of role-playing game and card-battler.

I loved this game. I really like the "deckbuilding" type games and this was right up my alley. Fun to build decks, try out different decks and characters, etc.

I had high expectations, which were partly disappointed. The combat system isn't very polished; the weight of purchasable items is too heavy, and I would have preferred more in-depth use of **** kept me entertained pleasantly, but it didn't excite me.

I really enjoyed this game. It is very easily accessible when it comes to card game mechanics (for example when compared to the Witcher Gwint card game), the rules are simple yet at the same time gameplay is very enjoyable. BUT, it is best played in small time portions. There is not that many cards to build custom deck (once you unlock some powerful ones you tend to stick with them through many chapters) and as mentioned the gameplay rules are quite straightforward, thus the game is perfect for short sessions. After 1h of continuous play it starts to get boring. There is a New Game + mode (which is a plus), but the limited number of cards to unlock do not make it appealing to re-play the game. You will probably stick with most of the end-game deck, maybe upgrading some cards. Still - it's nice that new game+ is here. So overall 7/10. Perfectly enjoyable in small 30min subway rides, but would bore to death on a 10h non-stop flight if it was the only game I had. While on sale - I would definitely recommend to pick it up,

Zuerst begeistert ob des interessanten Genre-Mix, war nach 10-15 Stunden die Luft raus. Auf Dauer etwas eintönig aber es ist nicht so, dass ich den Kauf bereue.

The graphics are polished but the game mechanics are not. The card mechanics are going to heavily limit both the audience and their enjoyment. The difficulty spike on Chapter 4 boss ruins the whole game. Poison and shield buffs are applied inconsistently if it is the hero or the enemy. Unfair difficulty is so frustrating. Designing enjoyable difficultly separates great devs from the want-a-bes and unfortunately here is strongly the latter.
