Underrated. Amazing environments. The towns and villages are unbelievably well-crafted. I do have to say, Lara Croft kinda **** as a person, but not every protagonist has to be a paragon of virtue.

Much better than the previous ones, but still plenty of flaws. The big positive is that there are actual tombs in this, way more exploration and adventure. The negatives are endless, but mostly small ones: way too many irrelevant loot, constant pointless small cutscenes, hardly any combat and its super easy, Lara whines a lot, linear levels, loads of padding (talk to villagers, pickup the lore stuff etc). Just the fact that I finally get to explore amazing looking ancient tombs carries it for me, but if they remade the originals with this combat and platforming it would be so much better...

Following the initial two games (TR2013 and Rise of the TR), I was genuinely thrilled when the third installment was released. However, it turned out to be quite disappointing! Lara's (Laura's) incessant complaints and her sarcastic demeanor were overwhelming. What purpose does Jonah serve in this game? It was nice to see him in RISE of the TR again, but bringing him back for a second time seems unnecessary. The graphics are truly impressive for a PS4 game, no doubt about that. However, the storyline leaves you puzzled as to why they continue in this manner, culminating in the trinity saga set in a jungle. It feels pointless! The developers played it far too safe. The combat scenes are poorly designed; the rooms are cramped, making movement difficult, and while the initial variety of stealth deaths is acceptable, you hardly utilize your weapons. You are constantly stocked with ammunition. You could essentially complete this game using only stealth. The armors are also completely irrelevant since they are unnecessary in stealth mode. The tombs they created are imaginative, but once you finish them and know the solutions, there's little incentive to revisit. In summary, it's an average game. After earning all the trophies, you end up deleting it, and it fades away as just another TR game. That's all there is to it.

Released in 2018, the game still suffers from glitches, and the climbing mechanics remain completely broken.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider brings Lara’s origin trilogy to a close with a darker, more introspective tone and a stronger focus on exploration and tomb raiding. Set against the lush, deadly backdrop of the Peruvian jungle, the game emphasizes stealth, puzzle-solving, and immersion. While it offers some of the best tombs in the series and a haunting atmosphere, uneven pacing and a less engaging narrative hold it back from greatness.

I played in PS5. Graphically very good, playability very good. It is more like an Uncharted kind of game, but that's not something bad. From the middle of the game to the end the story gets chopped, you find Aztecs in Perú, you find European kind of Catacumbs in Perú as well... I didn't like the infantilization of the dungeons, I get this is a fantasy game, however I expected more in-deep knowledge about history.

I'm a massive fan of the reboot with rise being my favorite of the trilogy. Shadow of the tomb raider seems like a huge step down from the previous two entries. The puzzles in the game were really easy and some was dumb for an example there was a puzzle where you had to fill up a pool to break debris from a spinning wheel but you could have just destroyed it without filling up the pool first but the game made you fill up the pool first before you can destroy the debris. I felt like the story in his game was very lackluster compared to the other two games and the characters in his game are just not memorable. The final boss in his game was probably one of the worst final bosses I have fought in a very long time. If Crystal dynamic decides to make another tomb raider game and if they make it like this game then don't even bother making the game.

The worst game from the trilogy, boring and easy puzzles and fewer fights. The plot is uninteresting, and the only cool character, Jonah, often loses his importance in the story. I don't know how they did it, but the parkour elements are worse than the previous ones. I can't even count how many times I died because the climbing was broken... in the previous ones, I practically never died in parkour. But I dont give zero beacuse the game is beatifull and i like sneak missions but that was **** little combat, too little stealth, too much walking and swimming aimlessly.

After all these years, I finally finished it! This is the worst installment in the entire series. The story, writing, and characters are absolutely dumb. I literally had to force myself to get through the game. I really hope the reboot has a new writer.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider improves every element of the previous games. Tomb design, jungle setting and the natural disasters complete the definitive Lara Croft adventure.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: A Disappointing Finale As a fan of the modern Tomb Raider trilogy, I was hooked after Rise of the Tomb Raider, which delivered an exciting blend of combat, exploration, and character development. Unfortunately, Shadow of the Tomb Raider fails to live up to its predecessors, feeling more like a flashy but hollow experience rather than a satisfying **** game leans heavily on traversal and tedious exploration while sidelining the elements that made the previous entries great. The story is uninspired and does little to keep players engaged, while Lara herself feels bland and **** most frustrating change is the combat—or rather, the lack of it. Around 80% of the action has been stripped away, leaving behind mostly stealth encounters and a handful of lackluster battles that last only a few minutes. If you enjoyed the dynamic combat of the previous games, you’ll likely find this installment underwhelming.Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a game best skipped.

Takes a step back from the previous entries in terms of Laura's character and motivations. Looks pretty and plays well, but the whole experience doesn't feel earned on her part.

Story was pretty bad, but it is typical tomb raider gameplay so it was fun. The puzzles were very fun in this game and the parkour is always fun. This game is pretty weak compared to the previous games, but if you like tomb raider, I don't see how you wouldn't like this one.

The worst of the trilogy. Really hard for me to connect with this Lara, she is very stubborn, selfish... And the devs has some kind of fetish to kill Lara in so many ways that just makes the game frustrating because it seems they force you to die for no reason just to see how Lara dies. The platform/climbing system is really bad, you are going to die 90% of time because the climb system is not working. The story is just crap, not interesting, lazy as hell and the ending is just nothing, you don't know what happend. Really disappointing game.

The gameplay is great a solid 8/10 experience, but the story leaves a lot to be desired. I like Laura Croft as a character, but the dialog is really strange when other characters act like actual caring and real human beings, and Laura acts like a selfish jerky character of a human who only cares about traveling the world going on treasure hunts. This is really sad because the environments, the physics, and combat is really fun and very well done. Overall a solid 8'10 game, with a solid 6/10 story.

Absolutamente prescindible.

The weakest part of the whole trilogy in my opinion. After the second one they had all the potential to make even more great game, but unfortunately they couldn't. Maybe the thing is in the setting and all this Maya and Mexican stuff are not for everyone. The first time I get in Paititi and started doing the side quests, that was a disaster, I wanted to drop it, but later, closer to the end the game became more pleasant and I finished it. The first location and then the location in the church were really good, for example, so maybe the thing is really in the setting of the game. Although, the game's mechanics and graphics felt worse too, so I bet it is not only the setting problem.

Okay, I finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I think someone in the thread was wondering how I would feel about its final hours - definitely stronger than a lot of what came before. It's at its best when its Uncharted-esque or better yet, having its own identity as a Tomb Raider game (the actual challenge tombs are some of the best parts) and at its worst when it tries to be an Ubisoft Assassin's Creed/Far Cry-esque game. I still think TR2013 is the most successful in this trilogy as a piece of work that stands on its own, and neither of the latter two games really did anything meaningful from there other than being 'bigger'. But they're not bad time-killers for someone who likes the core gameplay loop. Not quite on the level of anything Sony are doing first-party, though.

I’m about 2/3 through it now so time to say something. I’ve played TR games since the first in 1997 on my second hand ps1 and small cathode ray tube tv. I think all of the main ones on one platform or another. This entry has an interesting setting, vaguely evoking similarly themed 80s books and movies although missing an opportunity to be comparably tense, with action and timing thrills. It feels like the dynamic between reward and effort is too low. There is too much of everything - resources, treasures, bullets and generally too much collecting. It also feels less skill or intelligence are needed than previous TRs. This includes reading the environment for subtle clues, traps are too obvious and not as cunning, the perception crafting option is redundant as the default R3 survival instinct is just as good, even without an upgrade. Gunfire and archery sounds are weak (even with max bass on a good soundbar).Hunting is on the boring side and not even necessary. Swimming too easy not to drown on the baseline level, with little need to upgrade or have a strategy. The dialogue is bland and seems to be trying to play it safe. Characters lack character and are one dimensional NPCs. Lara lacks genuine enthusiasm for just about everything. Trinity can barely even muster a single corny baddy one liner in the whole game so far. The overall effect is the almonds are not engaged as they should be for a TR game. It needs a shot of adrenaline. It looks positively great on ps5, the music and ambient sounds are excellent. The control system is also mostly instinctive and feels natural in the most important operations. The game hints are handy early on but should be disabled via the main menu soon otherwise they detract from gameplay. Some of the puzzles are good. This is a good game which could have easily been great, but for playing it too safe with words and dumbing it down. Given the new owners of the brand sound like wokesters, where Lara will no longer be raiding tombs but instead be on a ‘hunt for truth’, this makes sense and I look forward to her replacement with a DEI hired squat tubby lesbian POC with autism and a polio contracture on a polar bear saving quest to prove climate change is real.

True to form Tomb Raider. After Rise, I wasn't sure what to expect going into this game. Overall, it is a lot of copy - Paste from the previous game, not doing anything particularly unique, however, it improved it in almost every way. The environment is more vibrant, the characters are better written and actually involved in the plot. There isn't a cognitive dejunct where the main character is both whiney and a god of death. The progression makes a bit more sense, like when she actually picks up guns that the enemy was using, rather than waiting half a game. I felt like I was playing a corny, over the top action movie, and that is exactly what I want from Lara Croft. All that being said, it is exactly like every ubisoft game produced since AC2, so pretty "safe".

Really good engine and graphics, creative puzzle like previous game that can be solved with many solution(like zelda botw),i really like that scary underground lost tribe people section, although it have a much more mysterious/interesting place/enemy origin, darker story overall adventure,i just felt like i enjoy the previous game overall gameplay and level design A LOT more,i wonder why theres still no sequel yet..that engine really had a potential and one of the best on ps4

Simply my favorite game of the PS4 era. I do not understand all the negative critics from the last episode of this new trilogy but it was the best of them. The story was really well-written (a very nice conclusion of a trilogy), the development of Lara too (about the consequences of our acts, the ambitious, friends, etc.). This game deliver ones of the best video game scenes of history : Cozumel flood, the jaguar fight, the refinery, San Juan... The puzzles (the famous tombs, which are, in this opus, really tombs!) are so fun, so well-designed. It was so cool to visit theses all Maïa tombs. I spend almost 150h on it, finish the game in every difficulty (5 times) and it still (in 2024) my favorite PS4 game (even counting Horizon, Uncharted, God of War...).

The first Tomb Raider game I've played in years, what attracted me to it being the setting, one of the few to explore, with some depth, into pre-Columbian Mesoamerican and Andean cultures. The world is nicely designed, the area of Paititi one of the most vivid experiences I remember in gaming (more vivid than Assassin's Creed cities honestly), despite the whole idea and plot behind it remains absurd: to put a flourishing, albeit isolated civilization of Iucatec Maya speakers in the middle of the Peruvian Amazon, and mix them up with elements of Nahua (group which includes the Aztecs), Zapotec, Huastec, Chimú, Mochica, Chachapoya, Nazca material culture, which means, peoples from whole continents and time periods apart, with very distinct morality systems, cultures and ways of life, arbitrarily glued into an amalgam which, unfortunately, makes it all more generic than it should. It's like putting Vikings and Japanese in the same town. But the fact that the NPCs talk in Iucatec Maya in first place is welcome (would be more likely if they spoke Kichwa instead & I wonder why they haven't come after Kichwa speakers instead of Iucatec Maya ones), the problem is that Lara and other characters doesn't, making it all feel off. The story is laughably bad, despite the narrative tries too hard to make it engaging (not unlike its immediate predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider, another good game with a terrible story), but the locations, graphics and exploration alone more than make up for it. Even if it didn't require grinding or 100% completion, the world, whether by its beauty, in canyons and rivers, the jungle, or the sense of danger by caves and fire pits (and also another huge ship bizarrely put inside an underground cave), plus the grandeur of the enlarged pre-Columbian artefacts making up an unique scenery were enough for me to complete it and then complete New Game + too. The combat is decent at best (despite it relies too much on stealth kills for success), and this one felt less grind-y than Rise, especially concerning weapon upgrades. The DLC challenges are some of the best tombs in the game, and some puzzles can be challenging in a good way. This game reintroduces water levels which became a bit frustrating because of the piranhas, but it's manageable & water exploration in some parts of the game even felt fun. The "hardest" difficulty of the game isn't harder than the hard mode except for the fact it has no checkpoints which make it very frustrating since one misstep can waste minutes of your life. This mode requires you to use your resources (herbs with which you can increase your perception and refill your health) VERY sparsely and strategically at critical times of combat, especially in the last boss, though not even that can save you from missteps in the context sensitive, quick time events. Even if the writers tried not to give Lara the impression of a misplaced "white saviour" (she is often humbled by Paititi and its inhabitants, and is more led than leads the locals in their needs to defeat a common enemy) it's all thrown away by certain quests which portray ritual human sacrifice in a completely irresponsible, and unrealistic way, as the game feels more like it looks for shock value than presenting a well studied, respectful portrait of these cultures. Regardless of its narrative failures, some lore entries provide accurate information about certain deities and aspects of everyday life from the Kichwa or Maya peoples (and others that are plain wrong, grouping the entirety of 20+ different Maya languages into the category of "Mam" which is just one of these Maya languages. Why notsimply group them under "Maya"? Worse, they put Nahuatl language under "Iucatec" which is actually one of those Maya languages which Nahuatl isn't part of). Another noticeable error is at a certain point Lara looks at a Mochica (a culture which precedes the Inca for centuries and lived in the northern coast of Peru, as opposed to the Andes) mask & says "the Inca influence is unmistakeable". No Lara, you don't know what you're talking about. The game also presents the narrative that the Maya civilization somehow "collapsed" at given point starting the fictional mass migration far south what's plain wrong and disrespectful to the 6 million + speakers of Maya languages in Mexico & Central America. It's ironic because since I'm an expert in the study of those cultures I find many terrible mistakes in this game, but at the same time, I'm tempted to forgive it, for the depiction of all these cultures in games is shockingly missing, and despite these errors and the stupid story (the actors did a nice job, but the writing is terrible. It also feels a rip-off of Rise of Tomb Raider especially concerning the role of Jonah, once again Lara's main ally in this adventure and the one to confront her with reason whenever she's complaining about something beyond her control) it looks incredibly good & that alone makes it recommendable.
