Shadow of Loot Box
Shadow of Loot Box never outstays its welcome, and the different themed levels add enough variety that you don’t get bored. Costing just a few bucks, you’ll find a short but rather fun experience that is worth spending an afternoon playing.
Shadow of Loot Box is a game that addresses the concept of loot boxes but doesn’t really drive the nail inward on how hindering they can be when it comes to a game. The added satire towards games like Fallout 4, among others adds a bit of comedy but are so short-lived that you’re immediately thrown back into the emptiness of the world around you. What the game has to offer is great, but if the game decided to add DLC in the future, not only would it add-on perfectly to the joke that was being delivered, but it would help to further expand the concepts the game bases around. In its present state, the game is decent, but some players may find it needs more.
Shadow of Loot Box is a poor joke. Furthermore, it’s a poor joke that costs money. I see nothing funny about a game that’s poking fun at controversial subjects, when in itself, it encompasses everything that makes a bad game, bad. On top of that and with its subject matter to the side, the game is extremely basic, lacks polish, and becomes overly repetitive far too quickly.

The presentation side of the game has a Minecraft feel to it and I found both the visuals and sound design to have quite a bit of charm included in them. Most of the puzzles aren’t overly difficult I actually found myself to enjoy them quite a bit because they do feature some nice creativeness. Technically Shadow of Loot Box held up really well throughout my time with the game and I must admit that I was impressed with the fluid and responsive controls. The level design has a decent amount of variety present and traversing and killing enemies was actually pretty enjoyable for the most part. Weapons and combat are a little too basic and there isn’t really anything that stands out in both of these aspects. In terms of content the game doesn’t have a lot for you to get to grips with and this makes the game lack when it comes to replaybilty as well. The gameplay is a little too simplistic and doesn’t carry with it much of a challenge. I love game’s that poke fun at the modern gaming industry because I bet most of us have done it many times before. Shadow of Loot Box tries to poke fun at certain elements every chance it gets and for the most part the game is actually pretty funny. The gameplay also isn’t bad either but it would’ve been better if they had made it a little bit more challenging. That being said there is a decent amount of variety present in each level so you do end up forgetting about the lack of a challenge quite quickly. This is a good thing as well because in terms of content the game doesn’t have too much so it would’ve been a disaster if the lack of a challenge was a problem the whole way through. Without a doubt my favourite thing about the game was its presentation. Both the visuals and sound design have a Minecraft feel about them and it fits the game’s style extremely well making the gameplay have quite a bit of charm within it. At the end of the day then Shadow of Loot Box is far from perfect and it has a few shortcomings but I think that’s the angle they were trying to go for and when it’s all said and done it provides you with enough enjoyable moments to get a small recommendation from me.
