Reynatis fits the profile of an RPG that Furyu and other developers have found as a niche: stories with anime influences, some curious points in the gameplay –the combat has its spark- and an approach that, for better or worse, takes us back to the role-playing game designed two decades ago. It is not necessarily a negative thing, after all there are plenty of RPGs from that era that are more fun than today's blockbusters, but the irregular execution is a problem that ends up subtracting many from the evaluation. It is not Furyu's best game, and it is certainly far from that Versus XIII that many of us imagined in 2006.
It's not the best JRPG of the year, but it has a PS2 charm that can make you love it (or hate it).
Reynatis tries to tick many boxes, and in the process ends up ticking very few. Despite some strong presentation and some genuinely fantastic ideas, the execution is lacking in just about every department, with a story that goes nowhere and gameplay that’s more frustrating than fun.

A terribly bad ARPG that just shows how most RPG fans just overrate every new RPG before cames out. Messy combat, nonsensical story, ugly character models that look like from a PS2 game makes tgis game mediocre at best.

At the very least I like the character designs and music in Reynatis, the game is kinda underrated tbh.

(MY SCORE : 6.8 /10) Action-Adventure Role Playing Game that is actually quite exciting, only when Combat seems a bit stiff. We can take turns using several Main Characters when exploring or Combat. There are 6 Characters in total, namely Marin Kirizumi, Nika Meguro, Moa ****, Sari Nishijima, Kiichiro Ukai and Masayoshi **** a world that is in the midst of a conflict between Wizards under the control of Magic Build of Japan against the M.E.A Magic Task Force. And the emergence of "The Damned". Where the residents of Shibuya are afraid of the emergence of Wizards, most of whom are people who have accidents and almost die, but unexpectedly turn into Wizards who have powers. We become Marin Kirizumi, a student who is also a Wizard. Although his magical powers make him unable to live freely and must hide his powers while exploring the city, he is determined to become the strongest Wizard. In carrying out his mission, he will form a team with Nika Meguro and Moa ****. Until joining Owl, the Wizard Support Group founded by Michiro Kujirai. We also become Sari Nishijima, a Replica from the Shibuya Police who works as an Officer in the M.E.A Magic Task Force. In this game, initially he will only be accompanied by Kiichiro Ukai and Masayoshi Dogo as a Party. Before finally Sari and Marin join as a team, after Sari and her group are considered guilty by the Deputy Chief of M.E.A, Sayoko Dogami, for killing the Captain of M.E.A, Kaido Mugen. Although it was done because Sari knew that Mugen was a traitor! Mugen freed one of the Replica Members of the Magic Guild of Japan, Tsumugi, who was previously captured! After Sari and Marin's Group joined the Owl formed by Michiro Kujirai, besides having to face the Leaders and Members of the Magic Guild of Japan, namely Soku Makabe, Ryunosuke Shido, Yakumo Kokufu, Shinzaburo Kiyokawa, Alice Suda, Jem Shinzaki, and Tsumugi. They also have to face Sayoko Dogami from M.E.A! In addition, in the Ending Game, to realize her desire to become the strongest Wizard, Marin must also face Michiro Kujirai who turns out to have the same ambition!Total 33 Chapters to finish this Game.

Reynatis offers an interesting story and bloody fights with a dual system between defense and attack that is really engaging, especially in the boss fights with gigantic monsters. Unfortunately, exploring Tokyo and the parallel world Another is not as engaging, since apart from rare situations it turns out to be little more than a walking simulator. Technically it is not excellent, with models and textures that recall what we saw on PS3, but at least there are no slowdowns or dropped frames. If you are looking for a story full of charismatic characters, it could be for you.

I went into Reynatis with many expectations formed by the previously mentioned Crymachina and The Caligula Effect 2. I expected a jankfest that would narratively punch skyward, seeking to shatter the heavens with razor-sharp words like its predecessors. Instead, the result was middling, and I feel this is due to the dual protagonists having to split the story—and thus split the focus. Reynatis has a bit of an identity crisis, and rather than it feeling like clean cuts on where one ends and the other begins, it’s all blended up into a mess that is both fun and taxing to play, both narratively intriguing and vapid, and both exciting and mundane. My one consolation is that if The Caligula Effect 2 and Crymachina are anything to go off of, a sequel to Reynatis could be one of my favorite games of the year. With that hope in mind, I eagerly look forward to the next strange FuRyu collaboration.

Reynatis is a game full of heart that reminds me of the golden age of PS2 RPG adventures, for better and for worse. It's full of interesting ideas, but is lacking consistent execution. If you can see past that, I do think that the charm of the game – the strong character writing, the living city of Shibuya, and angsty JRPG vibe of it all – will really resonate.

Reynatis, the latest action RPG from FuRyu, combines intriguing world-building and fluid combat but falters in storytelling and gameplay depth. Despite contributions from Yoko Shimomura and Kazushige Nojima, the rushed narrative leaves the experience feeling incomplete. The combat mechanics are engaging but lack challenge, while repetitive dungeons and lackluster side quests drag down the pacing. With some polish and deeper storytelling, Reynatis could have been something special, but as it stands, it’s a fun yet flawed journey.

I'm not sure what happened with Reynatis. Yoko Shimomura and Kazushige Nojima are legends. It feels like FuRyu had everything they needed to deliver a great JRPG. However, game development is difficult, and some projects are bound to miss the mark. That happened here in a big way. Reynatis is one of the most miserable experiences I have had with a game in decades. It is an ugly, repetitive mess that houses some of the worst writing the medium has to offer. Outside of the OST, there is almost nothing of value here. If this is, in fact, anything like what Final Fantasy Versus 13 was supposed to be, then I can comfortably say that Final Fantasy fans dodged a bullet.

Mid tier to good game: character design is cool, the gameplay is fun, the ost has about 3-4 nice soundtracks. The bad: 1: performance on Switch, would be higher if all platforms are the same. 2: lack of intrusting side quests and world building, 3: unpolished game, it has some really excellent ideas but isn't good at executing them. Overall the game needed more development time and the switch version needs some major patches. It has crashed 3-5 times.

SummaryThe year is 2024. In Shibuya, Tokyo, the Criminal Magic Response Act has issued an order barring citizens from going out at night. However, it was quickly disregarded, and few enforce it. Marin Kirizumi is a wizard who grew up oppressed by others due to his magic. "If you become the strongest, you'll be set free." Following those words ... Read More
