I’m very glad that Codebrew Games didn’t go all in with the social and life simulation elements here. Pocket City 2 is the perfect example of building on what people loved in the original game while adding a ton of optional quality content. I didn’t realize how much I’d end up just exploring my own city until I played Pocket City 2. It isn’t a super deep experience like the hardcore builders on PC, but that’s exactly what makes it good. This is a relaxing game that can be tweaked to your liking in terms of difficulty. As of this writing, I’ll be surprised if Pocket City 2 isn’t in our top 3 for the best iOS game of the year, and we are just in April. It isn’t often I end up gifting a game to multiple people a few hours in, but Pocket City 2 is that good.

Pocket City 2 is a really well-rounded title that improves upon its predecessor in many ways. It's not the deepest game in its genre, but it offers fun game mechanics that will keep you playing and also offers some nice extra features.

It works really well on a touchscreen, letting you dip in for a bit of mayoral action wherever you happen to be. It may only take a few days to occupy most of the available space in your starter city, but the map itself is vast, letting you experiment with different conurbations across its varied terrain.

Pocket City 2 is a wonderful game for the city building genre. This is because its simplistic design and UI allows it to be accessible for newbies to the scene. There is a delicate balance of supply and demand for enough different gameplay elements for the vast majority of the gameplay you always feel like you are doing something or approaching something big. This is not even mentioning the additional aspects of the game like weather events and city competitions. Some components, I felt, were a bit of a let down and felt like it was limited by gameplay experience. These were the minigames which sometimes had quest tied to them which caused me to discard them because I did not find them enjoyable. If you can overlook some of the extras that the game throws at you there is actually a wonderful foundation for your to build the city of your dreams.
