One Piece: Pirate's Carnival is the latest game to try to capitalize on the success of Nintendo's "Mario Party" games by giving us another video board game, but it just ends up falling flat. [July 2006, p.86]

I want to preface my statements that way, so that when I tell you how awful Pirate's Carnival is , maybe, just maybe, you'll believe me. [Sept. 2006, p.92]

If party games are your thing and you love the One Piece series, Pirates' Carnival will satisfy your craving for a multiplayer board game.

Some of it is because of nostalgia but I really like this game, there's stuff to unlock, you can check the cards that you collected, the mini games are pretty fun most of the time with a few exceptions, and it's actually pretty decent for a 4kids one piece game. Though Sanji's voice sounds like he was affected by his smoking that he does in the actual one piece show. And the controls aren't that bad and it's a pretty unique one piece game.

Great game. The story is decent. The scoring is great, visual is really amazing, the voice & sound is also amazing

Kids probably won't mind much, and they're definitely the target audience here. Pirates' Carnival isn't spectacular in any one sense, but the solid mini-games and well-used license are enough to put it near the top of the distinctly uncompetitive party game genre.

The board game concept is novel, and perhaps with a few less randomization events, it could have been more engaging, but with AI that's absolutely relentless on the upper settings, mini-games that fail to deliver the basic premise on the first play-through, and a general sense that things were rather slapped together, Pirates' Carnival lacks the kind of fun you'd expect when you put those two words together.
45
The gameplay is absolutely textbook in its design, and while a few of the games can be pretty entertaining, the sheer amount of variety is far too small.
40
If only the mini-games that you have to constantly play were more alluring.
30
Most of the mini-games are either boring or poorly controlled, and there's so few of them that they all get old pretty fast.
