Oh My Godheads

Official Xbox Magazine UK
A throwback party game that's clearly aimed at a very specific audience.
The modes may be limited, and the graphics bare, but when you have friends over and enjoy slicing each other up and using giant foot powerups to stomp each other, Oh My Godheads can become quite fun. An introduction at the beginning would have been very beneficial, as there’s a decent amount of strategy involved once you know the whole move sets and abilities each Godhead can use, altering how the match plays out. If you regularly have friends over and are looking for a new game to play with them, Oh My Godheads is a decent option to go with, but with a price of $19.99, if you don’t fall into that exact category, the single player value simply isn’t there by a long shot given the shallow gameplay versus the CPU.
Oh My Godheads is a fun game if you are looking at it from the multiplayer side of things, but it manages to have something for the single player gamer too. Although the choice of modes is limited, there's plenty of fun to be had, especially with the different Godheads thrown into the mix. A little more introduction to the game and its controls would have been helpful at the start, and online multiplayer is always a sad thing to miss out, but ultimately there's easy gamerscore and some frantic fun to be had here.

There’s nothing better than playing a fun and decent local multiplayer with friends and without a doubt there are quite a few classic game’s out there for you to sink your teeth into. Unfortunately though Oh My Godheads can’t be called a classic even though it offers you some enjoyable moments from time to time. The main reason this game can’t be called a classic is because it lacks depth and this means things can become boring quite quickly. Don’t get me wrong the game can be an incredible amount of fun for a short period, but to get the best out of the game you do have to play with friends. It does have single player but when you play on your own it gets boring almost instantly and the AI is very lacklustre and not very smart at all, which does makes things become frustrating. The gameplay on the whole has been done very well, and the best thing is that it remains responsive and fluid throughout. They have also thrown in a few unique ideas when it comes to the Godheads you can use, and I must admit that I appreciated the amount of variety the different characters had. In terms of modes the game doesn’t offer much so the replay value in the game is quite low. Some of the modes are also not good enough and I especially found this to be the case when I was tackling the boring trials mode. The presentation side of the game was something I was very fond of. Visually I loved the wacky art style and the sound design in a way makes you enjoy the game a little more, which is great. At the end of the day Oh My Godheads could have given you a lot more and if it did then the game would have got a much higher score from me. Fans of local multiplayers will find some enjoyment here and it does get some of the basics right, but unfortunately any fun is short-lived because there just isn’t enough depth to the game. I can’t unfortunately fully recommend Oh My Godheads to you because there are better game’s in the genre for a cheaper price, so I would wait until the price drops before you give this game a go.

Oh my Godheads is without a doubt one of the most original, polished, balanced, and entertaining local multiplayer games I’ve played all year, and so if you’re the type of person that has friends around on a regular basis for some gaming action, it deserves your attention.

Oh My Godheads is fun, bright, colourful and zany, but it’s somewhat let down by repetitive play, a lack of content, and no online support.

Oh My Godheads has the perfect formula that makes a good game. A gameplay that works and a simple but great art design, but we feel that there's a lack of ambition of the developers, and it's a pity that doesn't include an online mode.

A party game that's fun for a while, but you probably won't be loading it up after your guests leave.

Had this game been priced accordingly I could easily recommend it, but with what you get and the price at £10.99, I would highly suggest looking elsewhere for a local multiplayer fix before considering Oh My Godheads.
