An Game where you feel sad that it ended, really…it is one of my favourite games and i love it

Shadow of Mordor turned out surprisingly more familiar to Assassin's Creed games to me, than I anticipated. The parkour, observation towers, stealth, boss murder missions — I haven't played those for some significant time, but distinguished a big similarity here. I praise the game for its fluid combat system, that rewards skill and patience over button mashing and delivers truly exquisite sequences to those, who can master it. You never get bored with the variety of ways to solve the situation, which notoriously supports many play styles. On he other hand, controls and interactions with the landscape and some enemies felt not so responsive and sometimes outright dull. It frustrated me too the point, that I didn't complete the DLCs, having just started them. The plot takes an unorthodox but firm angle on the events of the Legendarium. The main line is captivating, well presented and wraps nicely around the main mechanics. At the same time, side quests seemed to pull too many well-established characters (Saruman, Gollum) in just for novelty sake. The world of Mordor comes across believable and sometimes even fabulous. Making all the captains so unique and fleshed out with procedural generation is a great feat. That said, I was not particularly blown away with the Nemesis system: no memorable arcs or stories got sculpted for me. One other big notch is the game cycle's overpowering dependence on the mini-map. You are never encouraged to explore the world around you between the missions: just point at the next marker and run towards it. Even landmark collectables can be acquired with this primitive approach, which is baffling. I cannot say this game was a revelation for me. It provides a faithful portal to the world of J.R.R Tolkien with a promise to become a menacing orc slayer, unraveling plots of the Dark; but it struggled to keep me going after that and discover something unique for myself.

Hated this game Nemesis system was good but every single other aspects of this game were horrible.

Maybe i expected this game to be a 9, but regardless, its a good game. It has some parts where it was boring for me (killing the war chiefs over and over again), but the story part is nice. Nemesis system is good, but nothing revolutionary, it didn't blew me away. The combat and powers are perfect, and the second part of the game is more fun that the first.

Minha versão é a de Edição Jogo do Ano. O jogo é bom, porém tem uma história rasa e é um pouco repetitivo. Seu gameplay é divertido e viciante, sendo seu sistema de Nemesis mais interessante do que as missões principais. Vale a pena para os fãs de O Senhor dos Anéis.

Absolutely annoying game. I realy liked some mechanics, but every time you walk around two or three bosses attack you and a few orcs come on top of it. From time to time would be okay, but this happens so often that I canceled it.

This game was a ton of fun. A great story, beautiful, interesting characters, and just plain fun to play. It was cool to die and see the bad guy's hierarchy change, it was cool to go find the Orc who killed you and hunt him down, it was fun to create my own little army. I was hooked. I have read Lord of the Rings, but I didn't need to know anything to play and enjoy this game. This was a ton of fun.

This game is incredibly enjoyable for me and has a strong chance of winning Game of the Year. I would give it a 9, but the ending was somewhat disappointing. Nevertheless, it remains a great game overall.

Well I've played the gamevery late cause I wasn't in gaming this much back in the day due to my age as well. I've played it for the first time really late and the ps4 version of the game on ps5 pro and 4K. Of course It is a old game, But even in 2025 It didn't feel incredibly old in gameplay for **** Nemesis system is great but I think It is this good only because of the way this game gives you as you progress. You unlock new things piece by piece so if you have just a bit of patience you shouldn't bored. This game is so much Influenced by OG old Assassin's creed games when it comes to PARKOUR if you don't see that you either didn't play older Assassin's creed games or you need to change your perspective a bit Cause It is obvious. My most problem was story. I don't personally like too much of the World and the story of the Lord of the Rings so I knew I wasn't going to be devastated by it. I think It is a mid story, like 6 out of 10 so definitely above average, **** It was the way they've did it. The story telling chapter by chapter is normally fine but they are incredibly isolated and Feels like they are just cutscenes rather than cutscenesthat actuallyare telling are story. I think this is because they are too Isolated and they don't tie the pieces together like a usual cinematic game does and that is fine. Because this game is not a cinematic Action. So overall 8 out of 10 or aka 80 out of 100 for me. I would give 9 If Storytelling and the style wasn't like this.

A terrific open-world action game that blends "Assassin's Creed" with the combat from the "Batman: Arkham" titles. "Shadow" takes place in between the "Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" trilogies. It features the "Nemesis" system which determines the enemies you fight. For example, if you kill a Captain, a power upheaval occurs. From then on, other Orcs rise in rank and fight for promotions. But if the Captain survives your attack, they’ll increase in power and change in appearance (to reflect their wounds). The game's upgrade system is more conventional. It's represented by a “tree branch” chart with different abilities you can unlock and upgrade. Overall, this is one of the best "Lord of the Rings" games. I'd rate it with an 8.5 out of 10.

Crap combat system, slow response time, and the fact that enemies that kill get stronger after every time they kill you making them harder to beat just ruins what could otherwise be a great game.

Nemesis system was a bit overhyped but still reallyyyyyy cool, same gameplay as batman arkham so game is insanely fun, story decent, good ideas and a passionate team

Good story, great combat, a lot of side quests and abilities too unlock, generally fun experience but two last bosses(if i can call them that) were a let down, still i recommend it to everyone

Although Shadow of Mordor takes some liberties with Lord of the Rings lore and isn't considered canon, it skillfully weaves its own narrative into the existing mythology. The rich storytelling and high quality earned it Game of the Year in 2014, and playing in 2024, I can see that they earned it. Gameplay: 8.5/10 Story: 8.5/10 Graphics: 7/10 Enjoyment: 9/10 Music: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10 The game introduces new characters, storylines, and elements—like the spirit of Celebrimbor and Sauron’s Nemesis system—that don’t appear in the original texts. These additions feel thoughtfully crafted and respectful of Tolkien’s world, both with its themes and tone in a way that complements the established lore. The developer grounds the storyline within Middle-earth, and offers a fresh perspective on familiar events and characters. This balance makes Shadow of Mordor feel like an authentic new addition in the Lord of the Rings universe, putting you, the player, in the struggle against Sauron that we see throughout the movies. Monolith could have played it safe and went with the existing narratives, but I am glad they didn't. Because it created a thrilling experience where you did not know exactly what would happen next, and where your character will go. It was very welcoming to play in an Open World that offers you multiple different ways to tackle your enemies. The stealth gameplay and fighting huge groups of Orc's reminds you of the Batman games, which are both made by Monolith Studios. The progression paths and trees are satisfying and give you a ton of customization to the build you are going for. Shadow of Mordor didn't win game of the year for no reason. If you love Lord of the Rings like I do, this game is a must play!

Eigentlich mag ich alles was mit Herr der Ringe und Mittelalter zu tun hat, aber irgendwann hat mich Shadow of Mordor doch genervt - die Bugs, die Orks wie diese geranked sind und noch einiges...

For 95% of this game I thought it was superior to the sequel Shadow of War (Which I rated 8/10). The story was better, the combat just as good, and the shorter length (took me 29h45m to platinum) was welcome with the sequel dragging on just a little bit too long. For the bulk of my playthrough this was a solid 9/10, but I just cannot overlook the ending, or, the final two bosses. To have the story build up and then the final two "boss fights" be just very short QTE sequences was as anticlimatic as any ending I can remember. Was a very underwhelming end to a great game.

It's incredibly satisfying to take down Orcs in this game. The combat system is one of the best I've experienced in any game, almost perfect. The story is also exceptional. I even started the second game, but after finishing the first one for the third time, I started feeling a bit burnt out.

Genuinely one of my favorite games. It was one of the first games I 100%ed and I can't recommend it enough.

Nice short and uninhibited trip to Mordor. Its gameplay is low threshholdy, compact and smooth without getting dull during its story. Its implications for the lore of Middle Earth is interesting and the Nemesis-system quite the jamboree. Completionists also find their meat with tricky challenges, collectibles that are sometimes connected to interesting lore and references to nerdy book details and side missions that keep on being fresh during its 14-18hrs of playtime.

Un tres bon jeu, le scénario est sympa, mais les missions sont beaucoup trop répétitifs. Le gameplay est cool, très bon système de combat, beaux finishers. Le jeu n’est pas très beau pour un jeu de 2014 en revanche. Dommage qu’on ne puisse pas se balader librement dans la map en revanche, on se fait attaquer constamment.

A clear ripoff of Arkane's Batman series, but a very fun ripoff. Combat is satisfying and the nemesis system is quite good, prompting other games to ripoff this mechanic. The story is whatever, the pacing can be extremely slow at times, and the combat can get a bit boring, but messing around with orcs in the open world and converting them to your army is very fun and unique. Might not keep your attention until the end, but still worth your time.

Even though it may seem a bit repetitive its a pretty satisfying game, especially for LOTR fans. Recommended!

ALMOST as good as the Arkham series and must play for LOTR fans and Arkham fans. Nemesis system is a lot of fun too

Best mideleri earth game

This game absolutely rocked. I’m a huge LOTR fan and this game hit every note for me. The stealth gameplay was top notch, the nemesis system was incredible and truly innovative. Got the platinum trophy.

Game socks butt bad story bad gameplay open world feels bland enemies are repetitive and world just don't look that nice

The game with very good graphics, the gameplay is very similar to Assassin's Creed in its best features, very interesting side quests, I do them simply because it is interesting to weaken the army of Sauron, the game is worth its money.

Game story if good, game-play and combat is nice but can be improved especially climbing walls. If you are a fan of AC then this is a game for you. Stealth kills, combat kills and many more. You'll enjoy.

SOM is a pretty good game! The nemesis system slaps. However, the graphics aren't the best, but this is compensated by the atmosphere. - The story is a bit confusing, especially the ending and side missions get a lil repetitive by the end. - Side characters and even the main character didn't stand out too much, but at least the Uruk's performances were captivating!

What is the point of stealth when enemies instantly respawn after you walked only 10 feet away lol. Terrible game design.

why the **** is this an Arkham clone. I will never understand the obsession with this kind of mindless button mashing combat, its good for Arkham because it makes you "fight like batman". why the **** is someone in a ****ing lord of the rings game fighting like this, and the detective vision is so ****ing out of place.

This game is not worth the title game of the year. It's not a bad game by any means, but it's just a typical open-world romp with a LotR coat of paint. The combat is fun, but shallow, and has a very low skill ceiling. Two of the three boss encounters were extremely disappointing and the story has some issues, but you can still have fun with this game.
