Mafia: The Old Country fails to engage in any way. Even if you love knives. This is a 10-15 hour linear action with a predictable storyline that is incredibly boring.

Mafia: The Old Country is an ambitious action-adventure game that portrays the Sicilian Mafia of the early 20th Century through a realistic lens. However, its excessive fixation on realism results in tedious gameplay and a story that lacks excitement, ultimately alienating a broader audience. As a consequence, the game will likely only resonate with a niche group of players who have a strong interest in the lives of the Mafia at that time.

If you can forgive those insecurities, perhaps the result of trying to balance a mainstream genre game with more experimental narrative ambitions, The Old Country has an enormous amount of heart. [Issue#415, p.88]

Mafia: The Old Country doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does take players to a beautiful new locale for a full-fledged Mafia game like any other - and possibly the best one yet. The Old Country makes for a sublime addition to the series.

A tight and memorable tale chock full of high-quality writing, charismatic characters and exciting story twists. Mafia: The Old Country may not break new ground on the gameplay front, but it succeeds in being one of the best interactive movies I have ever played.

An outstanding story-driven **** ending left me completely speechless and filled with emotion. In a sea of games that have started to feel generic, it’s refreshing to play something that leaves such a powerful and lasting **** gameplay is solid overall. At times the knife fights feel a bit overused, but it’s a minor issue when compared to the incredible atmosphere and the overall experience the game delivers.Mechanically, it may not be the best game I’ve ever played, but thanks to its exceptional narrative and the impressive audio-visual presentation, it absolutely deserves a perfect score from me. 10/10.

Mafia: The Old Country is a conventional but effective return to the linear and tightly story-driven format of the original Mafia and Mafia II, and it boasts a wonderful eye and ear for detail.

Mafia: The Old Country doesn’t stand out for its campaign length, which could have been a bit longer. Still, in its 12-hour runtime, it offers a solid story and charismatic characters that will please fans of mafia-themed stories, even if the plot itself isn't particularly surprising.

Mafia The Old Country paints an evocative 1902 Sicily with stellar art direction, strong performances, and competent cover shooting. Frequent performance drops, constrained mission design despite a broad map, dated stealth, and repetitive knife encounters erode the momentum, and a finale that fails to deliver undercuts the narrative. A beautiful, ambitious entry that too often frustrates, worth it for the setting, better at a discount.

A decent but cliched mob story and bland, frustrating gameplay make this the weakest Mafia yet.

My game of the year of 2025!!! This is such a good game, with a convincing/immersive environment. If people complain about this game being too short, then you’ are actually a spoiled person. Is it too long: its not good. Is it too short: its not good. Get over it already and just enjoy this masterpiece!! This game is made with love!

Great experience overall, but it seems an incomplete game, especially the world map. It seems that they intended to add content (missions, side quests, activities, etc.) to the map, but they ran out of time and shipped the game.

Black bars in cutscenes, boring most of the game, repetitive from other part, good aim, shooter on easy, knife battles, driving in a few chapters. Morally instructive, I hope.. (details below) 4/10 at discount. Don Spadaro's Directions: Make the user's screen smaller during cutscenes, that's an order! Innocent users: Why? Even in movies, it's really disturbing and at least unnecessary. You're also making the screen smaller; it's unfair and even feels like meanness for the sake of meanness. And those who are used to it (like slaves to slavery), you can make it optional in the settings! Don Spadaro: The less you see, the better you sleep! Games for better sleep now! Less gameplay, more walking, black bars, and cutscenes! Another story about a good boy who became a bad boy because the mafia doesn't solve problems fairly, but rather kills for theft, etc., and even for all sorts of trivial matters. Or they create problems themselves. That is, if something is taken from you, you should fairly sue, to create a judicial system, and not take up arms; it might even turn out that, in all fairness, someone else is right. Except the Talmud, it's also illegal in the modern state judicial system (I'm wary of mentioning the Talmud, because some things can be misunderstood in it by those seeking justification for their deviations, but the Talmud is the original of laws and common sense). And then we lose this bad boy when he realizes he's gone down the wrong path. Yes, some were saved, but some are not, it's unpleasant, but it's fair, and I won't mourn ....., but it's still unpleasant and sad. Just don't make bad characters. Let it be about a boy who was a good boy and remained a good boy. This can also be done in a deep and not obviously way, etc. That's short, I understand there are many more nuances. It's also a story about how not to be an animal when you're already in the bad boy category, and how money is god and everyone in the "family" serves this god, while there are no friends or life in this enterprise. This is the most hypocritical organization that can exist.) Even your family members are servants without rights. So, a member of this cult is simply like a prostitute, and you're shown how a new recruit is inclined to take up the... in short, he becomes a prostitute in the spiritual sense. The ironic thing is, it's all in vain. A person can live comfortably even if they behave well. And besides, that's the meaning of life, and it turns out they've lived it in vain. This also applies to all areas of life, from nutrition to war. And even that minority of people who can't get enough will never feel full—on the contrary. And often it is these idiots who are in power. Therefore, moderation and balance are the only things that will cool things down and reward you with peace, or at least a calmer and happier life. As for the gameplay and plot, it got interesting in the final chapters. I liked the horse races and the historical old car racing, but I was bored most of the time; I'd play for an hour and then turn it off to rest because it was boring. These chapters could have been filled with some gameplay, not just walking and boring dialogues, because the shooter from the cover and racing we already saw and that generally in the final chapters and it was great, very good! Fast control to hide, he is running, good aim, three difficulties, if i remember right. Knife duels are super. Cars and horses are very quality too. Something inventive could be invented, some puzzles, locations, and methods of progression, and made the story more rich and intense, to intertwine it with these inventions. The plot, too, is largely repetitive from other parts. Although I felt a bit of novelty in the last chapters, especially in the chapter where Luka had a child, there was an unexpected moment and plausible survival gameplay in the style of mafia (mafia from the movie), but very short. But on the background of all these boring chapters and crime and hostile, primitive qualities, the atmosphere of old-fashionedness and family values is wonderful, the graphics and melodies at the right moments! Characters written and look well. Clothes look of a special quality, skin, facial animation. I appreciate it. Plus, it encourages eating whole, natural foods. A huge problem today, on an incredible scale. (also kcal limit, g.i) But, like i said, repetitive and simple (i don't want to use the word poor, most of the game). I prefer to play these games on easy because it feels unrealistic and unfair if I hit the head and the enemy keeps shooting. Plus, they don't waste time aiming. Stealth is standard, distracting objects didn't help, so I didn't use them. The walking, movements, aim, etc., could also be fast but realistic physics, but not boringly console-like, like in water 1st part or indie feel like here. And familiar not to spend the entire game getting used to it. Example of inventions, play Martha Is Dead, a masterpiece. It fits the atmosphere.
