It's definitely a solid fast-paced arcade shooter but Hyper Sentinel also tends to devolve into a needlessly frustrating experience.

Though it appears to be an simplistic shooter, Hyper Sentinel really takes the fun parts out of any shmup and brings a fast, entertaining game. If you're not a fan of the genre, the straight-up approach to shooting aliens may struggle to maintain your interest over time. However, casual and hardcore fans will discover a challenging and insanely fun shooter.

There is a clear sense of passion here delivered through pure fun. The developers were successful in creating a new take on concepts originally conceived decades ago. This new shoot-‘em-up not only celebrates its predecessor but delivers a colorful, energetic experience that isn’t easy to put down.

Perfect game for me. Retro inspired button mashing fun. Easy to get into, fast game. Fastest level can be beat in under a minute, a full run takes less than 45 minutes. There is a survival mode too, if you have a lot of time to play. This game is way easier than its inspiration Uridium. You can retry as many times as you like without losing your score from previous levels. You will only collide with deck objects in the retro skill setting. Music and FX are Commodore 64 inspired, with lots of pulse-width modulation. Only criticism I have: The surface obstacles in retro setting stop being obstacles once you reach the boss, or play boss mode. But that’s not worth more than 0.1 score points. So, technically I should rate this game 9.9/10, but since I can’t: 10/10 !

Etwas "Uridium" auf Speed, man muss schnell abdrücken. Das war Commodore (Schneider CPC) von seiner besten Seite, schlicht begeisternd.

The game is fun but I really wish that mom and dad would stop fighting. They've been fighting for weeks now and dad has been a lot more angry and drinking his Jack Daniel's apple juice. Can someone please help me?

Hyper Sentinel is 'neo-retro' executed to perfection. Once you accept that the visual and audio directions are both design choices made to pay tribute to the original Commodore 64 game and sit down to take on your first Super-Dreadnought, you’ll be hooked. Every time you get a 'Game Over', the only thing on your mind will be on how to prevent whatever got the best of you in preparation of your next sortie (while, at the same, time browsing the leaderboards to see how your friends are faring in each level).

Hyper Sentinel is a smartly priced game for those that want to have a blast over the weekend to fork out for, and provides enough content and challenge to cater for both the casual and the insane gamer alike.

A pretty straightforward modernising of a fondly remembered 1980s shoot ‘em up that successfully adds a handful of modern bells, whistles and gameplay wrinkles to proceedings whilst also suffering somewhat from the inherent gameplay restrictions of its source material.

An amiable but underwhelming homage to the forgotten majesty of Uridium, that adds some welcome new ideas but removes too many of the old ones.

Really fun game, some great retro action. Really like the little turning animation of the main ship and that it makes you invincible adding to the gameplay. A lot of fun with some fun bosses.

There's a lot of on screen vomit going on. Your character is fast with fast moving objects and shooting and multiple colors make the game look ugly. It's just a struggle to enjoy even if it is based on the NES version of the Last Star Fighter. The frequent discounts make this a much better palatable game.
SummaryA face-melting, pixel-pumping arcade shoot 'em up featuring awesome power-ups, epic boss battles and spectacular effects at a blistering 60fps. Blast into battle against giant space destroyers in Arcade Mode, tackle endless waves of enemies in Survival Mode and face off against epic level guardians in Boss Run mode.
