Beautiful graphics, great cities, gameplay incorporates the best of the third installment and the fourth, and the music is on par with past installments of Heroes.

Definitely the best strategy game I have ever played. Simple, yet effective. The story, while being goofy, can be entertaining. This is a must play.

Great game from my youth with a lot of happy memories. I loved Heroes of Might and Magic V. I tried the earlier installments before, but never understood the game and its mechanics. For some reason, HOMM V was a lot more accessible and easier to understand. In Heroes of Might and Magic V, you follow a classic story about saving the kingdom, repel invading factions like demons, undead and creatures of the deep, and become the hero that saves the day. You can play the good and bad campaign, each consisting of many different missions, or scenarios. The story is fair and has a good pacing. Because the game thrives on this story, I will not spoil it further. The mechanics in HOMM V are relatively simple. You explore a map, with various resources, towns, small buildings and upgrades, to increase your strength, stats and army. On the map, different units are stationed, some friendly and ready to join you, but most of them are hostile. You fight them to earn XP, level up and unlock more skills. The goal of each map varies from scenario to scenario but mostly includes the conquering of a town or gate to win. Some scenario’s are timed, adding to the challenge. This game is really hard. The first scenario is some sort of tutorial, and can be completed easily, but after that, the game turns 180 degrees and throws everything it got at you. In the later scenarios, the enemy AI can be unforgiving. I really like all the units, their backstories and their overall design. They just look badass, have awesome attacks, sound effects, animations and skills. In terms of creativity and design, I think the creatures in this game are better than the ones from King’s Bounty. The graphics are great for the time and the animations of the units en environmental buildings are nicely done. The color pattern is warm and soft and enhances the experience. By far the best aspect of Heroes of Might and Magic V, is the sound. The (combat) music is absolutely great and the sound effects are spot on. I loved the satisfying sound effect of the scythe of the Wraith units and the four-sword attack of the Rakhasa rani. It is sound design at its best. The mechanics, controls and interfaces are easy to understand and can be mastered fairly quickly. The only small issue I experienced are the timed missions. In your quest log, you see that you need to capture a city in a certain amount of days, but on screen, no timer, reminder or warning is shown, making you instantly lose the scenario when not paying attention. Another small problem is the “stalemate situation”. In the later missions, you and an enemy AI hero can both control heroes and cities and try to take over the enemy city. Because all units get replenished every start of the week, both heroes can get exactly the same power level when buying new units every week. This way, there is no real advantage over the enemy and it is just “luck and prayer” if you hit hard enough. Looking back at the game in comparison with King’s Bounty, I think I prefer the latter in terms of graphics, mechanics, story and overall atmosphere. Nevertheless, Heroes of Might and Magic V will always remain a classic and a piece of nostalgia from my youth. Definitely recommend this game.

After playing classic Heroes of Might and MagicII, that got me into the series, this is one that was most memorable.
2 great expansions, and nice simple story did great job along with first time great 3D graphics (including castles and battle). Gameplay is perfect and pretty well balancedbetween the 6 races (8 after 2 expansions). Heroes and artifact systems was done great as well. Hoping someday 8th part of the series comes out for us to enjoy. This one is for me the best of the series.

Pretty good game. I did't finish that one. I liked 3D graphics. Interesting cities - nice animation and music during vising a given city

An excellent game buried beneath some of the most disruptive technical issues I have ever experienced while playing a video game. While the technical issues could arguably be attributed to the hardware I was using (I played using an M1 Mac running Wineskin), I researched these issues before posting this review, and found that most of the following were relatively universal issues: AI players take well over 1 minute to take their turn on larger maps; save files can become corrupted, resulting in entire games becoming unplayable; and the music will randomly switch quite abruptly for what seems like no reason at all. Heroes 5 is an excellent game - it has so much of what was great about Heroes 3, and truly is a lot of fun. However, you have to push through a lot of what seems like poor optimization by the developers in order to get to the enjoyable parts, and not everyone will be able to stomach the kinds of issues that were almost completely absent from prior games in the series.

Graphic has aged very badly. Map is still unclear and annoying unlike map in Heroes III where everything is perfectly visible.

Best game in the series in my opinion. Timeless artwork, interesting gameplay on the map and in combat, well-balanced and diverse factions, compared to the third game in the series. Campaign is fun and multiplayer is great. If you like any turn-based strategy games you should give it a try.

I know that many people like Heroes 3, but for me Heroes 5 is a game of my childhood that I have tried many times. Excellent and interesting plot, cool fights between heroes and simple creatures, generally 10/10 In my opinion, the best game of the series.

although this used to be my fave from the series over the years it just began feeling buggy and slow but other than that it's so f-ing good! the base game has it's charm but the second expansion is what makes it that good

Been passionate for this game when it was released in 2006 and it gave me much joy. Recently I began following homm3 streamers and I couldnt help but notice how much more complex and dynamic the combat system was in homm5 (as people love to compare these two titles). On a well balanced custom made map (maps in the vanilla are ok for casual players) this game truly shines. The skill tree depth along the interesting unit abilities are superb and allow hours and hours of replayability. The expansions made it even better. The dwarves and their runic system allowed a very rewarding gameplay.

I have played this game so many times since its launch, and the DLC too. I consider this one of the best strategy games of all time, and the last good one of the franchise. It improves on every mechanic that came before, as well as having great artwork and great balancing. The AI lacks a bit.

Game is full of game-breaking bugs that especially impact your campaign. Enemy turn take way too long and game doesn't even work when not focused on. Campaign are also an imbalanced mess and you are either stomping and having no fun or having to skip turns to dodge the extra beefed up enemy heroes( very fun gameplay considering the long enemy turns). Cinematics are extra cringe and if u want the game for that just watch them online. Hard pass from me, not even worth pirating, just stick to heroes3.

The best HoMM game, and the last good game in the series. I've enjoyed 5 far more than 3 or 4. Also has incredible soundtrack that brings a nostalgic tear to my eye and an artstyle that still hold up well in 2020. Simple but incredibly addictive gameplay, to the point where I want to jump back into a new match right after I finished a 5-hour LAN party. All around a much more fun and memorable game than any other in the series. 5.5 mod makes it even better, in addition to still having a friendly and active community.

This was one of the best games I have ever played. New awesome animations, interesting plot, the sense of epic events and brilliant skills tree made this game so remarkable that I still look for something similar to it.

Great graphics and design. I always enjoyed Heroes V, and find myself liking it the best in the franchise.

A good start HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC V. I went through the plot about 10 times, probably the best plot from the trilogy. But still 9, since the gameplay was worse than in the following parts of the trilogy.

Some great ideas mixed with some bad implementation. Long waiting time for end turn, abandoning hex grid and somehow a slower flow make it still inferior to Heroes 3. Heroes 5.5 mod is a very good addition, but by changing the hero classes and ultimate skills it is somehow less attractive (but more balanced)

Almost as good as heroes 3. Battles are great, design of the castles is awesome, music is good, plot is a little straightforward, but decent nevertheless. Unlike other tries to continue original trilogy, this one didn't break all by careless innovating. Enjoyed it a lot!

It's a HoM&M III in 3D graphics, but its a biggest flaw of this game for me. I hate candy looking games... It's so stupid to make game in that kind of universe with so silly visuals. All others apsects are great, as every HoM&M

In general, an interesting company and good work on graphics, but I really do not like such a toy-inflatable style. And some of the monsters in general had repel appearance. As a result, this game did not take root in my soul, and I just went through the company of the game, and returned to the third part.

This is one of the games I've gotten the most fun out of recently. The gameplay is incredibly entertaining, the campaign is great and I like almost everything about this game. The thing I enjoy the most about it is probably building your heroes' skills - there are many possibilities and later in the game a well built hero with the right skills can be the turning point of a battle. The magic in the game is amazing and so are the creatures (especially for a fantasy fan like me). While I haven't played other HOMM games and can't compare this to them, I can certainly say this is one of the best, underrated games I've come across. Definitely worth playing in my opinion. Unlike most games I've played I cannot think of a major problem with this one. The only things keeping this game from a 10 rating in my opinion are some minor issues that can be overlooked.

9.5 out of 10 Pretty much same old Heroes 3 in 3D, with few improvements to classic gameplay: better leveling system for heroes, alternative upgrades for units, finally nerfed Necropolis)

Best game in the franchise. Period. They just took HooM3 and improvet on it a lot. Look at HooM6 or HooM7! And compare it to that gem! Good old times:(

The worst HoMM game up to date. Period. Yes, this statement includes Heroes 7. This game is fundamentally broken, it was doomed to be broken the day since Nival got the task to make new Heroes game. And Jesus Merciful, the team had no **** clue how to make a competent Heroes game. Even Black Hole did a better job at this, and they halfly butchered their game. So, what's to hate about Heroes 5: The Awful Game? Almost everything, besides a good game's mechanics on paper. The game looked mediocre in 2005, it run like crap and is unplayable in skirmishes due to horrendous AI. The overall art direction is of course a subjective matter, but it's awfully executed and stands in the way of the gameplay. A simple example are the town screens. The original 3DO's Heroes game had town screens that were looking good AND were functional. It wasn't a nice picture, but an actual interface mechanic, where every single building was properly and intuitive placed (the 3 planes rule). Nival, in their **** way of thinking, tried to cover their incompetence in terms of actual game design, and went full-sparkling, useless mess of town screens. Fully 3D town screens are nice looking, yes. But they're awfully disfunctional. No one will rotate the camera and bleed their eyes out to select a little tiny barracks to recruit units. I watched a camera flying around each town once, and used shortcuts on game-covering panel. The developer completely missed the point of why town screens were implemented in the first place. But it's just one example. The game suffers the most because of two major problems. The engine and the AI. The engine is a broken piece of a mess. Every single time I tried to play this game, I threw it away after two skirmishes. Why? Why, because of a massive waste of my time of course! This game should be called Snoozing Simulator of Waiting Until the Enemy's Turn Ends, not Heroes of Might & Magic 5. The actual turn usually takes about 30 seconds/1 minute, tops. 5 minutes max, if there's a major battle. But the AI turns, oh boy! 1 enemy or 5 enemies, doesn't matter! Between your 30 seconds of actively playing the game, you will wait pointlessly 2-5 minutes for the AI to end their turn. After a short while it's game breaking and everyone that is above the mental age of 5 will rightfully stop playing, because it's the waste of time. And the game pauses if minimalized and defocused. The second deal breaker is the AI, done few days before the release and never fixed. Yeah, the dev is **** but what they have done with HoMM5 is just distasteful and beats the "town portal kek" Heroes 6's AI. I can understand uncovered map for AI (HoMM2). I can stomach unfinished AI (HoMM4). But bottomless resources, 10k a day income or defeating the horde of Archdevils on day 7, week 1, month 1 - is inexcusable. Snoozing of AI Cheating: the game.
