Challenging tower defense action for up to four demon hunters that would have benefitted from a local co-op mode as well as more polishing in general.
Anti Gravity Games Studios have included four unique zones, tons of levelling options, a hardcore mode and an actual incentive to perfect levels. Unfortunately the design of most of the game’s systems make that content unenjoyable. Between performance issues, difficulty spikes and a large amount of unfair deaths, it’s tough to enjoy your time here, and much of what fun can be had ends up being more at the expense of Hell Warders rather than because of it.
As a concept, Hell Warders is potentially compelling and fresh, but as a finished product, it's just dull and forgettable.

Loved this game at first, but it becomes impossible at a certain point. After maxing out everything and having a couple friends join it was still impossible. Could be a 10/10 with a patch.

In Hell Warders, the tower defense and RPG elements have been done well and things stay simple enough to keep confusion and frustration down due to the movement with gameplay vs your traditional stand still defenses. The game plays smooth throughout and there aren’t any real issues you have to deal with during your play through. I really enjoyed defeating all of the enemies due to the sheer amount of variety within the battles because it kept you on your toes wondering what's coming next. A co-op game (as in any game in my opinion) gives the gameplay an extra bang and it’s more fun when played in this manner. The presentation side of the game lacks due to feeling a bit stale and dated, no real punch to the presentation as a whole. There isn’t a great deal of depth within the content despite the enemy variety which means the repetition does set in soon enough. At times the controls didn’t always feel as responsive as they should’ve and this deducted from the overall enjoyment I was able to obtain from the game. Some of the gameplay elements are a little poorly explained, and this did cause a little confusion but was able to grasp with a little trial and error. The tower defense genre isn't one of my personal favorites, simply because they get repetitive too quickly or they lack in depth as there's truly only one way one set of enemy placements to accomplish a given level despite that problem wasn't present here. Hell Warders unfortunately suffers with some of these issues but it does have a few positives in the genre to keep it alive. Thankfully it does offer you online co-op and if you manage to get into a game, you will find it more fun when playing. In the end the freedom to move within a tower defense environment and co-op play doesn't save you from the dated feel and presentation that's still present. I've played worse and I've played better tower defense games. I can't say I'd look forward to playing it but it does have moments where it could be an ok co-op time passer.

Hell Warders is an unfinished Tower Defense, and it's not even correct in any aspect.

The game blends its few mechanics together well enough to maintain traction, and includes support for co-op play to bolster its worth. The problem, however, is that it lacks the depth found in many of its contemporaries. Furthermore, its visuals are fairly poor and its handling can be sloppy. If you’re in the market for a run-of-the-mill tower defense game, Hell Warders isn’t a bad choice, but you can get much better elsewhere at around the same cost.
