Screen Hype
I’ve had a thoroughly enjoyable time playing Helix: Descent N Ascent. The dynamic art style sets it apart from other indie games, with every hand-drawn frame depicting a beautiful ancient world. The character design is equally delightful, and the abilities you use make visually exciting creations. The arcade machines were the highlight of my experience. Even when a level got particularly tricky, it never felt overly taxing. The capacity to adjust the level of difficulty, the option to skip levels, and the additional cheat codes make for an engaging video game-ception experience. Good pacing aids the game too. There is all the time in the world to navigate what you want, when, and how. You can take your time solving the puzzles, and wander around the realm as much as you like. The game gives you space to breathe, and even the arcade machines allow you to come back to levels when you’re ready for them, for the most part.

Helix: Descent N Ascent draws you in with enchanting visuals of a mysterious, alien black and white world. The seemingly simple gameplay mechanics are quickly revealing hidden depth, both in the main path and more hidden mysteries along the way. While it won’t challenge hardcore puzzle lovers, it serves as a well-rounded entry point for any curious players.

Checkpoint Gaming
Helix: Descent N Ascent is a unique puzzle game that understands exactly what makes a puzzle so fun to complete. It trusts you to be able to think critically and experiment, rather than forcefully holding your hand, assuming it’s your first day on earth. Despite some frustrations from the occasional bug, awkward design decisions and eye strain, Badass Mongoose has created an experience that respects a player’s intelligence, making each solve all the more satisfying.
