Forspoken has plenty of other glaring issues like its occasionally janky platforming that results in Frey falling off buildings or its less than memorable soundtrack. It also has a number of additional points to praise like the scale of its cities and the cast of cute cat chimeras that Frey can lay down and cuddle with. This duality of fantastic ideas with less-than-stellar execution places Forspoken in a place where very few games end up — smack dab in the middle. It’s not so bad that it should be burned by fire, but not nearly good enough to make anyone’s game of the year list.
Forspoken feels like an interesting blend of gameplay elements from Square Enix projects past and present, but we're not certain it all comes together. A middling story and combat make its fun parkour harder to bear.
World exploration in Forspoken can bring you some real joy, and same could be said about the combat system. And yet the writing, weird visual presentation, and overall direction can really bring the whole experience down.

Combat and parkour feel great, and having a young woman of color as the protagonist is a welcome change, but the rest is sadly mediocre. The world is huge but sterile. The story is basic and superficial. Bits of lore scattered around the world just don’t come together into a deep or meaningful narrative. Side characters are flat and forgettable. I kinda liked the dynamic between Frey and the Cuff, but the repetitive dialogue and excessive cursing just killed the vibe. The voice acting is good though. All in all, during my playthrough I caught myself sooo many times being confused or simply cringing because of the writing, but the dopamine from the action kept me going. If it’s on sale, you might give it a try, but at full price? No no no.

Forspoken is a game that definitely stumbles a good bit of the time with some things but the amount of hate this game got was completely unwarranted. If you can find this game on a good sale I'd say give it a shot.

I rarely quit on games, even if I don't like them. For me, Forsaken was a horrible couple of hours. Most if the game is lacking personality and wasn't engaging at all. Still get's a 3 because the movement was nice. Combat was OK but carried by the movement. Without these elements i'd give it a 0 or 1.

Forspoken is absolutely fantastic. With all the spells you can unlock, the gear you can upgrade, the fights, the bosses, and a storyline that rivals the best video game stories, this isn't a return to form for SquareEnix, it's a testament that they still got it, and will have it for a very, very long time.

Forspoken is a unique game, with a very distinct gameplay, setting and story that compose a very fun and interesting experience. It suffers with its short duration, problemactic camera, lack of variety in side missions and it needs a few adjustments to its gameplay, but its one of the most beautiful games on the PS5 so far and a title that deserves everyone's attention.

A me è arrivato.

After clearing this game I was shocked that reviews were clearly written by guys that didn't even bother to try this game. Gameplay is masterpiece, lore is very good, storytelling is a little clunky at the beginning but it gets better the more you play. Strongly recommend to check for yourself.

Forspoken lacks the kind of refinement expected of a AAA title. If the concepts had received more attention, then the entire package would have been more cohesive. Still, despite its issues, there's definitely something here to enjoy if you can focus in on what the game does well: narrative, accessibility, and writing.

Forspoken may be a game of squandered potential, but there remains an argument that it’s still worth playing, not just for the simple joy of zipping through its world, but for the occasional glimpse at the potentially genre-defying tentpole it could have been with clearer vision and better collaboration. Because, in this world of stagnation over innovation, even just the groundwork can be worth savouring.

Forspoken barely avoids disaster thanks to its gameplay and its two main characters, two aspects that are not without their faults either. Its few good ideas simply don't manage to make up for its huge shortcomings: Luminous' title quickly gets bogged down in a rousing structure, which will take you through areas that are certainly huge, but empty of interest. The activities all look the same, the level design is very poor, as is the bestiary... In short, it is impossible for us to recommend it at full price.

Did we really, really, really need a cat taming minigame? And you already told me the story of Athia at the start of the game. Why am I now ‘learning’ it again at the end of the game, strolling from point to point, pressing triangle for exposition. It’s a gorgeous game, but God if it’s not like a minorly insipid make-up artist’s Instagram grid. Loads of things to look at but no actual meaning in any of them.

Forspoken is somewhat reminiscent of the fusion cuisine that caused a furor in the average bistro in the early 1990s...The result is a potpourri of uncomfortably poorly written dialogue, a giant open world of cardboard and struggling to find 'meh' action and combat.

The game has some issues, but they were definitely blown out of proportion. Hate bandwagoning is a real thing. Some dialog can be cringe, but not much more than a Kingdom Hearts or DMC game. Combat system is genuinely phenomenal, and performance/graphics for PS5 pro are good. Some color filtering choices are questionable, but the game looks pretty overall. Lore is very interesting, and character designs are stunning. Some songs are hauntingly beautiful, but the soundtrack has far too many generic, lietmotif-heavy, repetitive songs for me to ever listen to the soundtrack on my free time. Cutscenes are awkward and stilted unfortunately, but overall, this is a great game and has me glued to my seat. At 20 USD now, this game is definitely worth getting. It's really more of an 8, but I'm giving it a 10, since like FFXIII, this game suffers from hater syndrome.

It has issues but honestly, i really enjoyed it. In forspoken you are frey, a 21 year old girl who struggles with life in new york but after discovering a random arm accesory she goes to another dimension where that thing talks and we call it cuff, and it also gives us powers to save athia and defeat the Tantas. Storywise while many hated it i must say i enjoyed it. Frey insults quite frecuently, to be honest i didnt mind it because i thought she was a teenager for almost the whole game but once i learned she was a full grown adult i thought it was a bit cringe but one can say she had a hard time i guess, she never got to be a true child with freedom and joy and wants to slur both to express the little freedom she has and to cope with whats happening. I actually liked the characters, the dynamic between cuff and frey i enjoyed it and i did like most of its quips and jokes. While i liked the general dynamic, dialogue and characters, i must say its very predictable, i dont think that makes the story bad but it doesnt help it and also the chapter 11 was brutally long with way too much time to explain everything compared to the rest of the game. There was a twist too which was kinda predictable and honestly i didnt like it. Gameplay. Had potential but its at best a bit above average. The movement while it looks fun, its really really simple with not much to do besides hold sprint and jump over obstacles, you also have a very basic grappling hook and not much more. Combat was decent, could have been better with more CC powers and better variety to the powers but it was decently fun, you have a nice selection of powers and abilities 3 ranged and one close range, enemy variety could have been better but it does the job. Some bosses could be annoying but most were very fun. Sidequests were bad mostly The world while at times it can look stunning, its mostly very empty (visually) there were a decent variety of activities and most of them were actually fun but in general the world was empty due to lack of structures vegetation or other stuff. Soundtrack wasnt memorable at all nothing struck me. Overall in general its actually enjoyable, worth to try if free. But asking 70$ is something id laugh at. The gameplay can be a bit fun and if you like the first 3 hours storywise and characters then you would love the game. Worth at 5$

I don't get the poor reception for this game. It may not be a masterpiece but it's adequate. I got in on sale for twenty bucks and I'm happy with it.

Forspoken suffers from really poor dialogue and unlikeable characters, repetitive gameplay and the overwhelming feeling is this is a project that should have really been cancelled early in development, but nobody ever pulled the trigger. It's not a total write-off - visually it's OK, and there's some promise with the overall 'isekai/Alice in Wonderland' premise (unfortunately never realised here.) The sound design isn't terrible either. And the parkour type movement is, at least for a while, pretty decent. But that's it. Everything else - gameplay, characters, dialogue, progression... everything - is pretty awful. But it's the writing that really kills it, because this thing is littered with cut scenes, all over the place, every few minutes, and every single one, without exception, is abysmal, with a script that feels it was written by a really bad AI. The lead character, Frey, is the worst character in the entire game. And it's not entirely the fault of the script either - she's badly acted, with weird delivery of the lines throughout that don't match the context of the situation. So yeah, it's a poor game. It hasn't been unfairly blasted by a 'hate mob' - it's just a bad game.

I just finished this game and had mixed feelings. Pros: 1. The parkour system is unique and makes exploring a huge empty world more interesting. 2. The combat system is fun, with a wide variety of magic to try different combat styles. It feels under used after you get fire spells. 3. Story feels like a mix of Wizard of Oz with Alice in the Wonderland, which starts boring as heck, but the ending "twist" feels enjoyable. The cons: 1. The protagonist is stereotyped and is completely unlikeable until almost the last chapter. 2. Side quests (detours) are repetitive, boring and give no sense of reward. You do much of things that don't feel like you are helping anything get better. 3. The world is huge, beautiful, but boring as heck. It felt like a bad copy of Horizon Zero Dawn, where instead of wanting to explore every corner before facing the final boss, I actually wanted to rush finish the game before I lost interest and felt like I wasted my money. I'm now in the post-end game hating even more the challenges required to get Platinum trophy. It feels so pointless that I might just give up and move on to a better game instead. Edit: I eventually came back months later to get Platinum trophy, which I did. It made me remember why I disliked this game more and drop my score from 5 to 4.
