Had a blast with the first two entries of the series. This one, on the other hand, wasn’t as great.
I finished it and went all the way, but I felt way less immersed in the story because it’s much more linear.
It’s simple: you’re thrown straight into the Warrior’s story without knowing anything (Or did I missed something ?). There’s barely any intro or explanation before you’re suddenly on a BoS commando mission with characters you know nothing about...
It took me a looong time to get into the story, to master the new mechanics, and to actually start having fun. But the lack of dialogue choices and freedom was really noticeable. Indeed the whole game felt a lot less open-world than the first two.
Even the gameplay frustrated me at times: some missions were way too long to complete and felt really tedious.

Do you love the combat in Fallout 1 and 2? Like truly can't get enough of it even after 20 hours straight? Then you might like this game, as it provides you with huge maps brimming with enemies to kill. For my part, I thought I loved Fallout's combat until I played this, and saw that there can be too much **** thing. The missions are tedious and grindy, and the gameplay is fraught with quirky line-of-sight, annoying elevation rules, and frustrating enemies popping in and out of cover to take popshots or throw dynamite. If you're looking for an experience like the Fallout games, this is not it. There is little story or exploration, and questing and choice are minimal. I think I liked that terrible PS2 Fallout game better than this. It's just not fun. I'm 4 missions in, and am quickly losing the will to go on.

This was a game I enjoyed much more than the first two. The graphics had some small improvements, nothing amazing, but it helped a lot to identify some things and items in the scenario that I couldn't before. The gameplay in my opinion has improved dramatically. The option to turn off turns and be a tactical action game was really cool in this game. Being able to choose the specialty, weapons and which companions to follow is great. Of course, it's still a limited game due to being from 2001, but it's a lot more fun than the previous ones. The story/general context of this game is better than the previous ones too, but your decisions practically have no weight at the end, much less throughout the story. At the time it must have been a great game, but today I dragged myself to finish.

I love this game, the indescribable atmosphere and unreal graphics, the system of the semi-turn-based game P. S. old fallout with the same atmosphere and modern system pleases!

On souffle bruyamment.

This game attempted to be a squad-based TBS game like Jagged Alliance 2 or XCom UFO Defense, but in the Fallout 2 universe. Unfortunately, this effort didn't succeed, because its Fallout-based interface, skill system and the story-based mission design didn't work well for a TBS; at the same time, the sequence of missions is too linear for an RPG game, and there are no dialog trees which made all the fun in Fallout (and its recent remake, Underrail). When you create a character, it feels like Fallout, yes. The graphics are mostly taken from there, yet done with higher resolution. Most music tracks are the same. The GUI is similar. However, the very first mission already shows you pretty much what the game is: you crouch along a maze-like level, with many walls, barrels, sandbags, dispatching one small group of bad guys after another. You can't see the tiles and it's not clear what provides cover and what not, and what blocks line of sight or not. The map design usually offers only one solution to every situation which you will usually guess after dying while trying a different approach. Setting "tough guy" ("iron man"/permadeath) mode doesn't make much sense because of the fog-of-war system (you won't see enemies until you come close to them) and the extreme length of missions. In the options you can choose between real-time mode, individual turns mode and squad turns mode. The best of them is "squad turns". All in all, I can't really recommend this game, unless you grab it in a bundle with Fallout 1 and 2 on GOG. But those two are RPG games of a different caliber. If you want to check out an old-school squad-based game, I'd rather recommend Jagged Alliance 2 or XCom UFO Defense.

No, this does not feel like the Fallout we got used to. But to an already established fan of the series this is a worthy intermediary step before the dive into the world of FO3. Tactics sports just that - tactical combat, which by itself is fun, but on top of that a decent story is overlayed. As a long and big (u got it!) fan of the series i enjoyed the game thoroughly, and played through it a couple of times.

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel is a tactical shooter set in the Fallout universe. A group of dissenters split off from the main Brotherhood in the Core Region. In part it's to escape the strict nature of the Brotherhood, but also to chase escaping militant Super Mutants from the Masters Army. The game fills a nice niche, taking place between Fallout and Fallout 2, in the still to this day unexplored mid-west United States. The good: Solid tactical game play. Some big voice talent such as R. Lee Ermey as General Barnaky, and Ron Perlman narrating. Not to mention that all of the main characters, and many secondary characters are voice acted. With it's isomeric view it hails to the first two Fallout games with a good deal of homage. There are many objectives in each mission, and the better you do, the better the final outcome of each mission. But if you only complete the base objectives expect to get berated a bit, and if you mess up expect to be berated a lot. But if you fail the voice of your commander will encourage you to try again. As a strategy game few even today can actually match it. The addition of usable vehicles, which your characters can shoot from is nice though. The bad: Unlike previous games in the Fallout franchise this game is entirely linear, about all of the exploration you get is in each mission. While this can net you needed equipment to use or sell it can get a bit tedious. The game is also repetitive, very much geared for strategy fans more than RPG fans. RPG fans may find the strategy gameplay tedious. On the other hand Strategy game fans may find the RPG elements tedious. Other notes: This game has a ton of items in it, which can be good for players who like more micromanagement, but bad for players who don't. While linear it has a good story to go on with. Still purist fans of Fallout won't like this game at all, but more hardcore fans hungry for more Fallout might just. Again for people who like to micromanage, there are tons of squad members who you can customize quite a bit, from armor and weapons, to skills. Final note: The massive graphical overhaul, diversity of weapons, more tense background music, and simplified combat system all add up to huge potential. But due to the nature of the game it makes a terrible RPG. Still it makes a better than average tactical strategy game set in the Fallout universe. Despite this it's strategy elements will probably disappoint most RPG fans, and the RPG elements might make the game too confusing for many strategy fans.

Random encounters are super frequent, outdoorsman skill allow to skip most of that pointless fights (which actually don't give you any benefits whatsoever) but it is so frequent that sometime you made only one millimeter on worldmap between another encounter. So that skill is absolutely necessary here not mention other skills which seem to be useless. Its totally linear game there is no free exploring on map so this map could be even removed as its FAKE (you cant discover ANYTHING beside special encounters) For that am give zero. In real strategy you should have every locations available or at least parts of it accessible, visible on map. And you should be commander who lead and plan some strategy make decisions. This would be tactic. Where what you get is linear shooter with Fallout style graphic. Its NOT Fallout just because it have similar gfx and stats system. Without freedom of exploring and entire adventure part that is pointless. They should at least make some poor dialogs and poor quests so it would be modified by fans into Fallout 3 Am played Awaken mod and it almost works as adventure game so cant understand why they cut off best parts and give that shooter. Ok it look good and may keep you busy for while but reality is that they broke game and its bit pointless now. Somehow am enjoyed even that broken game so what would be with all this missing stuff? Definitely epic 10/10 game, but this is zero because am feel its broken.

Its not realy a good **** has some major **** played all Falloutgames and ive played through Tactics when it came out and now im playing it the second **** basic story is **** problem is the **** **** game tells its "story" with some **** should i say monologues?Cause you cant **** thats my major point why the **** in terms of **** characters are not **** your commanding officer, not the people you save(or kill) and not your **** voiceacting is ok but thats **** dialoges are short and tell not realy a **** progress through the when you finish missions. These missions are sometimes well made, sometimes **** completely because they lack something. There are maps for sneaking, thats **** IT WORKS PROPERLY!!The pathfinding is terrible and sometime youll get spotted because of that or you lose AP because the character takes a strange **** go in a tactical **** much the game is flawed depends on your characterbuild for the maincharacter.Play a sniper and the game is far to easy.Play a melee or unarmed character and you punish **** example:The first enemys **** sneak behind them, hit them in the eyes and most of them die.Problems begin when you encaunter the mutants. They got nasty weapons(big **** sneak uppon them and melee them, youll die probally because of the high HP they got and you lack the power in meleecombat.Remeber those sneakcrits from fallout 3 or New Vegas? In Tactics even this crappy **** needs an extra perk.Makes the hole idea useless.Makes the deathclaw race ****, you can play with deathclaws in your party.Sounds amazing, right?Nope, they **** of time because they die too quickly.Just one example for bad balance and/or design decisions.Another topic are the random **** TOO MANY!!!!And some of them are realy hard if you are on foot.Youve got you APC?The encounters are too easy in that case.Sorry, bad balancing.Another point is the progression in terms of **** game lacks late game content especialy when you play with a meleechar.Youll get the ripper pretty early in the game, the powerfist too. These are the best weapons for close combat. That **** in all, the game is realy fun in the first missions. There is a steady progression, you level up pretty **** the game gets boring pretty fast.

A very different idea to the original fallouts while still visually looking similar and concentrating on the same universe. Fallout tactics concentrates on... well.. tactics. And it does it well. Imagine Jagged Alliance in the fallout universe.

I started with the newer Fallout games. Then about a year ago I decided to pick up the triple pack (Fallout 1, 2, and this one. At first, I didn't quite understand this game. It was confusing, felt a little weird and such. I got a few missions in and I have to say that it isn't all that bad. I was astonished by the graphics of the cutscenes. A little disappointing in the linear gameplay. Though if the original 2 games had combat like this, it would be nearly perfect. I say around a 7 or 7.5 out of 10.

This is a really decent tactical squad game, i bought it as an x-com refugee looking for more of the same and was not disappointed. The building of your squad and play style is reminiscent of baldurs gate and you may nostalgically recognize more than a few voices throughout. It loses a mark for a few bugs to do with enemy miniguns and the annoying random attacks when you travel. 72 hours in Sept, 2013.

Fallout Tactics is a neglected masterpiece. This game gets so much right: Great atmosphere, Great sound., Great level design. Great character levelling. Great Tactical combat. However the game also falls off badly in the second half. meaning that it is hard to appreciate all the brilliant design by the time you finish it. The way the game finlly ends and fails is tragic: : It is too linear and so is a kind of long railroad rather than a role playing game with any meaningful choices in it. The inventory system is wonderful, but unfortunately most inventory choices become redundant in the second half of the game by which time the player team is way overpowered and the game thus becomes dull, and boring before it reaches its final, rather uninspired conclusion. This is a game that badly needs to be rebuilt and perfected. The fundamentals are so good, that this could be the basis for a brilliant, brilliant role playing experience

Fallout Tactics is a great game. Anyone who says this doesn't deserve the name "Fallout" hasn't played Fallout. The story is great, entertaining, and engaging, and straight out of the Fallout fiction. While the RPG elements of the previous two Fallout installments are mostly absent, Fallout Tactics gives you complete control of each member of your party down to the clothes they wear, the guns they carry, and exactly what they do. As you travel the wastes, you can pick up additional team members and types, making the customizability of this game and replayability immense. I have played and replayed this game multiple times, as the graphics and gameplay have stood up over the years quite well. My only complaint is the linearity of the storyline, but even then you can just go wander the wastelands if you feel like it, which is fun in itself (albeit dangerous). I wish I could find a game as well put together as Fallout Tactics these days.

I don't understand all of the critical negativity surrounding this game (outside of Metacritic, that is!). It was never meant to be a direct sequel to the first two Fallout titles and yet it gets judged as if it were one time and time again. It's a combat strategy game with some adventure/RPG elements set in the Fallout universe. It also happens to be fairly good. It's aged reasonably well and I recommend it, as long as you're not planning to hold it to the light of the original Fallout titles.

This game is a great strategic type game. I also love to mess around with the multiplayer aspect, no one plays it really, but it's fun to have a friend over and make some custom characters and mow each other down once in a while. I think if tactics ever became a flash web game for multiplayer it would do great! As far as the actual game goes, I don't really recall much of a story line, I don't think it really claims to have one either, it's more managing your characters and setting up combat. If you really wanted a story I'm sure you could piece it together through missions but that would probably be annoying.
