Designed for ease of play, what the culturally distinctive EQQO lacks in depth, it makes up for with its charming, multilayered allegorical story.

EQQO is a really charming, interesting game that unfortunately all comes apart when you get around to actually playing it. The presentation is great, the story is wonderful, and it feels like this interesting little storybook is unfolding right in front of your eyes. It was a game that one will desperately try to like, but it keeps getting in its own way with awkward controls and boring gameplay. It is like sitting down and hearing a beautiful story that the storyteller keeps interrupting to burp every ten seconds, and it becomes harder and harder to focus on the story the longer things go on. It might be good enough for people that play video games primary for their story, or for those looking for a charming presentation, but those that actually want to play a solid game will have to look elsewhere.

I give EQQO a lot of credit for keeping things basic and allowing the on-screen action to function without ever having to explain itself too much. Unfortunately, it works that well because there’s really not much of a challenge here. In normal circumstances, that might not be the worst thing in the world: it could allow you to focus on the game’s essentials, and in EQQO’s case, that theoretically means focusing players on its utterly delightful story. Unfortunately, however, the reality is that the most notable thing about EQQO isn’t the story or its characters, it’s the absolutely awful controls. No matter how adorable the game is, or how much love went into it, those controls are really its defining feature, and in this case, they drag everything else down with them.

I do not enjoy stories that deliberately try to be meta, or that try to story-tell about story-telling, if there's nothing terribly interesting going on. This felt like a very linear experience with hardly any actual problem-solving, and no real story. I honestly feel bad saying that because any time I see something that people worked on, I assume that some people were truly passionate about it, and I don't like giving 'negative reviews' for that reason. Technically, the game is done well. But I felt absolutely nothing for this kid, at any time during the story. The dialogue was meaningless, and I never cared, all the way to the end.

A perfectly reasonable puzzle game with a moderately interesting story is awfully hindered by a terrible camera and an artistic effect of poor visual focus. There’s a lot of strange foreshortening and the camera struggles to focus. If it’s on sale and you can struggle through the frustrating camera hiding the puzzle elements, maybe give it a go.

If you are looking for relaxing, visually interesting game that requires a little problem solving this is the game for you. The story line unfolds as you play adding a little mystery. The ending is somewhat abrupt though and makes you question your effort to complete the game.

EQQO is a fun puzzlegame that lets you enjoy a strong story about a boy and an egg. The game features more than 30 levels, but takes only four hours to complete. The puzzles are not difficult except a few of them. Because of this, the game never makes you think too long before proceeding through a level. Still EQQO is a game you should definitely try.

One of my favorite games of all times is Ico on Ps2. I think this game might be homage to that game. Even beyond the naming Eqqo (pronounced "echo"). The entire game structure and flow makes me nostalgic for Ico. I like this game. Im right near the end of it now. And it has held my attention for the 4 or 5 hours ive put into it so far. With some interesting environments and decent graphics. There are a few things that really bug me about this game though. The camera /motion controls are incredibly frustrating at times, and sometimes bordering on making the game unplayable. Also the woman/mother's narration throughout the game... is really irritating. I think, like Ico, this game could have went completely silent. With none or barely any text story and would have been better for it. It's a boy in a mysterious empty world. Let the player wonder. Also near the end, the puzzles start getting really repetitive.

EqqO is a short game with a lot of creativity in its design. It's worth checking out for those who want a unique puzzle experience on the Switch, so long as they are aware that there are some issues on the technical side of things that can make things more frustrating than they need to be.

The decent presentation of this fairy tale is overshadowed my shallow mechanics.

Even though it features nifty puzzles and a strikingly unique narrative, EQQO is held back in this non-VR console release.

A fairly uninspired puzzle game with awkward controls, the concept of Eqqo is never truly delivered. There are some emotional moments and beautiful environments, but it wasn't enough to keep me interested in the dull gameplay.

It was an interesting game with quite the pleasing graphics. Some puzzles were nice, some were just dumb. Narrative was a little annoying, but the game gave me rather a nice experience. Controls shocked me, I'm rather against using the touch screen, but there were puzzles where it made thing a lot easier (so I used touch screen...). Overall, I won't say much more about this, since it's a short puzzle game. I do recommend it if you can get it for a 1$ or less (I got it for free) that's the price I think that this game is worth. For the full price I would't even look at it, but at the sale it is a fine game!

Its slow pace and overly simple beginning were hindrances that tested my commitment to playing all the way through, but it gets better at chapter 3 out of 5, introducing more complex levels, puzzles and some narrative moments, all the while exploring a visually inspired world.

I bought this game for 75 cents on discount, but I advise you to stay away, simply to save your time. The game is incredibly uninspired, slow and boring. The story and scenery starts off looking cool, but ends up being a 2-3 hour slog fest accompanied by nauseating camera and controls that are better suited for a mobile game. Avoid unless you REALLY like eggs...
SummaryThe heartening tale of a mother, a blind child and an Egg - voiced and captioned in many languages. A multi-layered story full of symbols and metaphors about hope, love, nature and everything that connects us.
