eFootball Kick-Off!
Konami has managed to reconnect with its football roots and bring back a football simulator that offers more direct, no-frills gameplay. This installment is the most accessible way to enjoy the 2026 World Cup on Switch 2 like never before. It lacks variety in game modes and the goalkeeper behavior needs improvement, but it's a lighthearted experience that captures the spirit of PES.
The online component is admittedly secondary: there are only Quick Match, Ranked, and Friendly Match modes, and the game's status as an exclusive significantly limits the pool of potential opponents. Matters are made worse by the usual shortcomings of Konami's infrastructure—including clunky menus and questionable matchmaking logic—resulting in extremely long wait times and forcing players to make certain choices after being matched rather than before, which further drags out the breaks between games. Anyone buying eFootball Kick-Off! should do so knowing that the main course is, and remains, the offline experience.
eFootball Kick-Off! brings Konami's football to Nintendo with gameplay that's pleasantly reminiscent of the old PES games. There are several limitations and plenty of room for improvement, but it's a decent debut.

The true spirit of classic PES is back, even if a bit stripped down As a long-time fan of the Pro Evolution Soccer series, I’ve always preferred its physics, tactical depth, and gameplay loop over FIFA (now EA Sports FC). When Konami rebranded the franchise into eFootball, I was deeply disappointed. I didn't even plan on buying this Switch version, expecting a complete disaster. However, after reading some positive feedback, I decided to give it a shot for $20. And honestly? Once I booted it up, I felt that old-school PES vibe again. It’s stripped down, but the core gameplay and driving energy are absolutely there. What I liked: - The Gameplay & Physics: The overall feel of the match, the ball movement, shooting animations, and general physics feel way more natural and realistic than in EA FC. - No Microtransactions: A massive plus. It's just you, the game, and football.Squad Building & Legends: I love playing with my favorite players and having different historical versions of legends to build a team around. The player selection is great. - Clever Mechanics: The system where you "steal" and sign a player from the defeated opponent's team is brilliant, and the coin mechanic for signings feels rewarding. - Performance: The solid 60 FPS makes the gameplay buttery smooth and highly responsive. What needs improvement: - Visuals & UI: While close-up replays look sharp, the graphics from the standard tactical camera feel a bit blurry and muddy. Also, the main menu looks straight out of a cheap mobile game—uninspired and outdated. - Lack of Modes: The game feels barren. I desperately miss something like Master League and would gladly pay for it as a premium DLC. - Goalkeeper AI: The keepers are currently broken. You can score from literally any distance, which takes away from the realism. - Player Progression: Unlike the main console version, there is zero player development here. I wish we could train and level up players by sacrificing bench warmers. - Quality of Life Issues: Forced signings after a win are annoying. When your squad is fully formed, being forced to sign a player from the losing team just clutters the club. We need a skip button. - Customization & Tactics: The game lacks club customization (stadiums, colors, badges, kits). More importantly, the tactics have been oversimplified. PES used to be the king of tactical depth, but right now, even EA FC offers more flexibility in this department. Overall, for $20, it's a nostalgic trip and a very solid handheld football simulator. It has its flaws, but the gameplay loop keeps you hooked.

Not sure how this is getting such high ratings. After 10 ranked 1v1 games, I didn't score a single goal. This is like in the lowest ranked league with the worst players in this game. I've been playing footie sims for the past 20 years. This is the first time I haven't scored in 10 matches. I'm requesting a refund from Nintendo once the transaction with the bank clears. If that fails, I'm disputing the transaction with my financial institution. I'm done being scammed by football simulations that promise to be something they are not.

eFootball Kick Off doesn't try to compete directly with the giants of the genre in terms of content or licensing. Instead, it delivers a focused, accessible, and technically solid experience where it matters most, on the pitch. Smooth 60fps gameplay, combined with a more straightforward approach and a competitive price point, make it a highly appealing proposition, especially for those who value local multiplayer and are looking for a football game free from the obligations that come with the dominant live-service models on the market.

In each of the modes, the gameplay is fun, light and the players nicely controllable. It’s great to have recognised stars and their likenesses in-game and the smoothness of the gameplay stands out for footie fans seeking a decent matchplay title that works on-the-go. Overall, a really decent soccer game for a bargain price on Switch 2.

Le meilleur jeu de foot depuis des années. Tres bon gameplay réactif et jouissif. On revient au plaisir de l'époque de ISS 64 ou PES6.

eFootball Kick-Off is a refreshing take on football games for Nintendo Switch 2, prioritizing accessibility, quick matches, and local multiplayer fun over complexity. While its limited licenses and technical shortcomings are hard to ignore, the strong on-field gameplay and affordable price make it one of the most approachable football experiences currently available on the platform.

As it stands, eFootball Kick-Off! is a great football game wrapped in a thin package. If you’re here for modes, licenses, and the full modern football game circus, you may come away wanting a lot more. If you're here for the feel of PES, smooth 60fps football on Switch 2, and fancy building a team without being shaken upside down for your lunch money, then this is absolutely worth a look.

Unfortunately, Konami’s new football-focused project fails to impress. In the name of extreme accessibility, eFootball Kick-Off! leaves behind many of the elements that made the old PES series successful and that could still have made the game more engaging today. While the arcade-style gameplay is decent, it is also heavily simplified and cannot carry on its own a package that feels thin and offers very little variety. The single-player content is limited, featuring a World Cup mode (without an official license), friendly matches, a stripped-down Master League, and a couple of minigames. Multiplayer provides more reasons to keep playing, but even there players will encounter technical limitations and a lack of variety. The idea of having a PES experience both at home and on the go is certainly appealing, but it feels as though Konami approached the project on a tight budget. The game’s accessibility and very low price point are welcome, yet it is hard not to feel that a few additional features and modes could have been included. eFootball Kick-Off! struggles to maintain interest over the long term, but it may still be the right choice for those looking for a few quick matches, whether relaxing on the couch or playing under a beach umbrella. Perhaps this time, Italy might not only qualify for the World Cup—but actually win it.

eFootball Kick-Off! marks the long-awaited return of Konami football to Nintendo shores after more than a decade of absence, offering an unusual yet appreciated offline, premium formula that breaks away from the live-service model. However, despite a consistently enjoyable core gameplay and a budget-friendly entry price, the content offering proves to be too weak; between bare-bones customization and a World Tour mode that loses its bite as soon as you max out your team, the title struggles to keep players hooked for more than ten hours. Ultimately, it ends up feeling more like a prolonged tutorial for newcomers rather than a true standalone single-player football game.

It's fun, easy to enjoy, and it's got a nice approach to it in terms of value. And I love the menu music reminding me of the ISS/PES era, and the cute icons in Nintendo's own fashion. So, if Konami manages to upgrade the graphics to more modern standards, and if the World Tour leans closer to the ML in the future, this could be more than a summer love or a travel buddy. For now, it's okay if just like that.

PES is back. The gameplay is where it all matters. And this is where this game really shines. I feel the urge to go have another game, and another etc. A feeling I havent had since the great days of PES 1-9. Now give us a proper Master league. Full freedom to set match time and speed. Give the goalies a pair of proper gloves and this could be the perfect Football-game.
