Disney Illusion Island may not rewrite the Metroidvania handbook nor does it ever feel particularly challenging, but what it does, it does exceptionally well. Throughout the six-hour journey, my wife and I couldn’t stop smiling; between the colourful worlds and their light puzzly-platformy layouts, enchanting soundtrack and fun banter between its four main leads. Disney fans will adore everything about this game while those looking for a more laid-back, less demanding adventure will appreciate what’s on display too.

I liked the cutscenes, where it was basically just a full Mickey Mouse cartoon and it was fairly humorous, you know, for what it is. I wish it wasn't so backloaded with those scenes though, as you get 1 at the beginning and 3 at the very end. Those could have spread out a bit better. As for the actual gameplay, I think the running and jumping feels pretty good, which is good, since that is all there is. No combat whatsoever. I think the world is way too big though and they only give you fast travel at the very, very end of the game. The boss fights also go on a little too long and all of them are really similar. I would have just liked a bit more variety in general for the game. It's still a decent little platformer and I completed the entire thing in about 6 hours.

what a dissapointment, this game is bad, not mediocre, bad, in everything expect for the hidden mouses, I liked those

Disney Illusion Island is quite possibly one of the best Disney games about Mickey and Friends made to date. The world of Monoth is such a joy to explore and is made fantastically to feel like a modern Metroidvania platformer.

The "chillest" game you will play this year. Great metroidvania based strictly on platforming. Impressive amount of world-building and cutscenes, you will easily sink for like 10 hours to collect all the items in the game. Runs fabulously on Switch, with a minor hiccups in some of more intense boss battles, but nothing game-breaking. This is probably the best metroidvania to start your adventure with the genre (beside Yoku's Island Express).

Disney Illusion Island is a fun, all-ages romp through a Disneyfied fantasy world. It doesn't do anything outside of what is expected, but what it does, it does well. The platforming is easy to pick up and fun to master, and there's a sense of progression and advancement to the game that helps keep it feeling like a true Metroidvania. It's a cute, charming and enjoyable adventure, and sometimes, that is all a game needs to be.

It may not live up to the Illusion titles for Sega Genesis but what's here is good stuff nonetheless as Disney Illusion Island presents a wondrous game world that can be rather enjoyable to explore. Just don't expect much variety or any sense of challenge.

I really wanted to like this game but the pacing, the content, the story, the attempt at poor humour, unfortunately all fell flat. Wait for a sale if anything.
