It's a good game for introducing children to video games because of its childlike tone and because they don't notice the flaws as much. From then on, for everyone else, it's downhill fast. Simple gameplay that always holds your hand, very poor animations, a simple story with some ridiculous moments... In short, I wasn't expecting much from the game knowing how everyone involved has been handling the series, and indeed, the game has less budget than a SUDA51 game.

Après un premier épisode sur 3DS et une adaptation cinématographique qui avait surpris son monde, Le retour de Détective Pikachu débarque sur Switch. Cette suite reprend directement là où le premier jeu s’était arrêté : Tim et Pikachu continuent de chercher Harry, le père disparu de Tim, fil rouge de l’histoire. Mewtwo est encore de la partie, pour le plus grand plaisir des fans, mais en attendant de résoudre ce mystère principal, les deux compères se retrouvent embarqués dans une série d’enquêtes **** boucle de gameplay est très simple et reste identique tout au long de l’aventure : dialogues, exploration, cinématiques, recherche d’indices, déductions, mini-jeux puis résolution finale. On retrouve quelques activités variées comme suivre une odeur avec Caninos, des phases de discrétion, des QTE ou encore tout casser avec un Darumacho d’Alola. La vraie nouveauté de cette suite vient des Pokémon montures, chacun doté d’une compétence spéciale, et qui seront tous mis à contribution dans le chapitre **** jeu reste agréable pour les fans de Pokémon qui souhaitent les voir évoluer dans un contexte non canonique, où les créatures interagissent de manière plus réaliste avec les humains. On apprécie le doublage japonais, quelques touches d’humour bienvenues et surtout la personnalité de Détective Pikachu, qui reste le personnage le plus attachant et le mieux écrit de l’aventure.Cependant, la technique n’est clairement pas au niveau de la Switch : la direction artistique des humains est plate, le monde peu engageant et truffé de murs invisibles, les PNJ sont figés, et la synchronisation labiale laisse à désirer. Les dialogues ne sont pas tous doublés et l’OST, bien qu’adaptée, est loin d’être aussi mémorable qu’un opus canonique de la série. Les temps de chargement, assez fréquents lors des changements de zone, nuisent également au rythme.C’est d’ailleurs le principal reproche : le jeu est très dirigiste, parfait pour un public jeune mais frustrant pour les adultes. Les déductions sont souvent évidentes et il faut parfois patienter longtemps avant que le jeu nous laisse les formuler, notamment après avoir parlé à tous les PNJ d’une zone. Cela casse le rythme, tout comme les nombreux allers-retours nécessaires pour progresser. Enfin, on peut questionner la logique scénaristique : Tim et Pikachu cachent le fait qu’ils se comprennent, alors même que tout le monde les voit discuter. Peut-être que le premier opus donnait un meilleur contexte, mais ici l’intérêt de ce secret semble **** conclusion, Le retour de Détective Pikachu est une aventure sympathique, mais avant tout pensée pour les jeunes joueurs ou les curieux qui veulent retrouver Pikachu dans un rôle inhabituel. Les adultes risquent de s’ennuyer, surtout à cause du rythme haché, des dialogues évidents et des chargements un peu trop présents. Reste un jeu qui a du charme et qui saura plaire aux fans de Pokémon en quête d’une expérience narrative plus détendue, mais pas forcément de déduction digne d’un vrai détective.

I find myself falling asleep when I play this. While it’s not a terrible game, I just don’t think I’m into visual novel games, because there is a lot of dialogue in this that I find tedious. Plus it’s not challenging, the investigations and the repetitive hitting on the A button is too easy. Pickachu’s English voice actor is pretty funny though.

I was only able to finish the game after a long hiatus and because I really like Pikachu. The gameplay is average and the graphics are worse than Arceus. It was cool to see Pikachu ride other Pokemon and work with them but that’s about it.

A very enjoyable story based game that has tons of personality and is especially great for fans of the franchise

Speaking of Nintendo and detectives, don't think for a second I forgot about this steaming pile of garbage Nintendo. The greedy developers are charging $50 for a shovelware mobile game. The graphics are a joke. The textures in this game make me want to puke. The physics are beyond horrible. The animations are atrocious. The protagonist cannot open doors in real-time. Instead the screen fades to black because the developers are too cheap and lazy to animate the doors opening. As always, Nintendo are cheapskates when it comes to voice acting. Well I mean Nintendo are cheapskates in nearly every way imaginable, but it's pathetic to not have all the lines voice acted. Only the cutscenes are voice acted, not the in-game dialogue. Not even EA and Activision are that greedy; as far as I'm aware, all of their recent full priced games have all lines voice acted. The voice acting is terrible. The lip syncing is laughable. The dialogue is cringeworthy. ● There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $50 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. The gameplay is boring and repetitive, it's a walking simulator. The puzzles are awful. The story is poorly written. The fixed camera is just an excuse for developers to be cheap and lazy. That way, these lazy developers don't have to worry about designing the environments and walls behind you. That is what a lot of Nintendo games are in a nutshell nowadays, just a bunch of overpriced indie quality games. Even EA is more inclined to charge reasonable prices for indie quality games. I don't recommend this game at all.

There were no glaring bugs, but it was the most boring game I've played in recent memory.Sure, the Pokemon were cute and the voice acting was good. However, the pacing of the game was poor, and after spending time going right and left to find the obvious answer and listening to Pikachu's irrelevant stories in between, the game finally moved on to deductions. If the presentation had been more elaborate, there might not have been such a burden.

I enjoyed the first game on the 3DS as I like Pokémon and seeing games explore that world outside of the mainline games. I was looking forward to this one, but it turns out it is just baby's first detective game. The overall story isn't very interesting as it is not a mystery at all what is going on. The dialog is also drones on and on about things that are already known or so completely obvious to the player. I still like the voice acting and environments, but that doesn't come close to saving this game.

Detective Pikachu Returns was my first Detective Pikachu game and I will say I really enjoyed playing this game. No, the graphics weren't great, yes the game is short. But for what its worth the story is really encapsulating and makes me want to go play the 3DS Detective Pikachu game or watch the Detective Pikachu movie. Although the game is very short, it took 13 hours for me and I was taking my time. I would buy this game if you find it on sale even for 15-20% off, It's fun for what it gives :)

"Master Detective Pikachu Returns" does a lot of things right, but also some things not too well. The storyline with Tim and Pikachu is good and carries you through the 15 hours. However, there could be more depth here and it could be kept relatively simple. Unfortunately, the voice actors are only available in English or Japanese. You can also expect a lot from the gameplay and the puzzles and tasks are aimed more at younger players. The technology and sound are good. On the whole, "Master Detective Pikachu Returns" is a decent game for the Switch, but there are a few places where you'll have to make compromises.

Childish and boring, this game is the most regrettable thing I purchase this year I give it 1 start because Nintendo allowed me to digitally return it. Otherwise, it’s a solid 0

Good- A fun story with a satisfying resolution; surprisingly strong voice work for the main characters; charming characters and great fan-service for long-time fans; easy and fun to pick up and play for younger players. Bad- The graphics look dated, and there are a lot of loading screens; the gameplay is extremely simplified; the story is done well and is fun to follow along, but remains largely predictable. Thoughts- Should you play Detective Pikachu Returns? If you are a fan of Pokemon, and enjoyed the original game, you will probably get something out of this one. While there are some changes to what the first game did, on the whole, the boat has not been rocked too much, and you will still get more of that same formula here. Younger players especially will probably like this game a lot and be drawn to it, with its charming characters, fun story, and simplistic gameplay. For older players, the recommendation has more caveats, but if you’re down for getting a deeper look at the Pokemon world than you otherwise get, you’ll find what’s here fun enough.

When I played the original Detective Pikachu, I summed up the experience perfectly - A slightly more mature version of Blues Clues. The concept was charming and adorable, and I was hopeful the sequel would build on that and evolve. It did that in many ways, but at the end of the day, this is still Blues Clues with an adventurous twist.This game which blends elements of point-and-click adventures with original ideas still is fundamentally the same as its predecessor. A charming city filled with Pokémon and people living together and cute lighthearted adventures and mysteries to be found, with a plot simple enough for the youngest children to enjoy. The mysteries are relatively easy to solve, so much like the first game the enjoyment value is purely in the fan service of Pokémon. This sequel does add in some fun new elements like helper Pokémon who appear in each level and provide fun mini-games, so there is a little more to help this franchise (presumably) end on a bigger note. To that end, Detective Pikachu Returns delivers on every aspect of a sequel, including improved gameplay and a better **** many ways these games could be great introductions to bigger mystery games like Ace Attorney or Zero Escape, and I love to see Pokémon taking on different genres. The duo of Detective Pikachu games may not blow anyone away, and they may also be the easiest titles I’ve ever played in my life, but there is something incredibly charming about both of them. Maybe I’m just a **** for Pokémon and how well the storytellers show what the world is like living with them, or the comedic moments when they hit just right, but these two games told a complete story I enjoyed being apart of.

Very boring, linear and non dynamic gameplay You can´t lose and if you choose something wrong, you got infinite tries without any punishment

God this was painful to play through. Don't buy it, for your own sake, just watch the damn movie.

Too easy, it's a walking simulator. Puzzles are too easy and most of them just get solved for you. Very handholding even after the tutorial. Big downgrade compared to the 3DS Detective Pikachu. Not worth the money. Story is okay but that's all it has going for it.

Abysmal.

This is point, click, read, walk around, repeat. Oh, occasionally you need to tap “A” repeatedly. The puzzles take absolutely no skill. This is a waste of time. I assumed it would be better but it’s hard to stay awake. Do not waste your money on this game. Even kids will find it boring.
