I was already excited about Denshattack!, confident that the experience we’d get from Undercoders would be enjoyable. What I wasn’t expecting was one of my favourite games of the year blasting across the screen at full speed. Denshattack! is so much fun to play, a blast to look at and listen to, and entirely original. I never expected to be drifting a train around a tight corner through the streets of Tokyo, but I’m sure glad Denshattack! delivers on that promise. From the creative level designs, to each boss being different than the last, Denshattack! is a creative force that I can’t put down.

Denshattack! is packed with ideas - more than most video game series' manage to produce during ten iterations. Visually, acoustically and in terms of gameplay this is arcade at its best and one of the best games coming out this year.

Denshattack surprises by turning the unlikely idea of train maneuvers into one of the most fun and creative titles of the year. With strong aesthetic inspiration in Persona, impeccable soundtrack and genius boss battles, the game makes up for its indie scale with pure charisma and fluidity.

Denshattack is as compelling as it is ridiculous, with so many mechanics to master, so many rails to grind, and so many trains to flip.

If you’re still on the fence about Denshattack!, I’ll leave you with this: Denshattack! is the type of game worth keeping installed on your hard drive. In short bursts, it has just the right amount of high-octane stylish platforming needed for winding down after a long day. In longer-form settings, it rewards those in it for the long haul with exhilarating tricks, multiple forms of mastery, and satisfying high-score chases. It’s a must-play of 2026, especially if you’ve been hankering for a Tony Hawk– or SSX Tricky-inspired locomotive fever dream with outstanding art design and soundtrack.

Denshattack is a brilliantly executed, wild concept that stands out as one of the most fun and stylish games of 2026. It delivers gameplay brimming with originality, introducing varied and increasingly engaging mechanics from the start of the campaign to the very end. It is all wrapped in a package featuring a charming cast of characters, stunning visuals, and a flawless soundtrack starring names like Tee Lopes and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi.

Proof that Western anime buffs can sometimes pull off the kind of stuff that inspired them with epic flare, Denshattack digs surprisingly deep with its insane premise to deliver a fact paced game of score and style that offers a whiplash inducing tour of sizable swathes of Japan in the process.

Denshattack! remains a tremendously exciting and memorable adventure. Its level design, gameplay ideas, music, and presentation all feel far beyond what one might expect from an indie game. Traces of Jet Set Radio's parkour spirit, the trick-scoring systems of skateboarding games, and the mechanics of numerous classic video games can all be found within it. Most importantly, it turns the seemingly absurd concept of the subway itself doing parkour into an excellent game that is far more than just a joke.

Denshattack! is, in one word, cathartic at all levels. It's much more than it's cool concept, much more than its neat sights, more than the tight tricks and failed jumps; it's a whole that never stops giving, even after the 9 to 10 hours where you would have likely seen all stages, because the reasons to come back to it are endless. The feeling never goes away no matter how much you master it, the love it processes to both denshattack as a form of in-universe self-expression and the realised mechanical potential it offers. It is, in the most abstract and concrete ways, a master class of game feel, for this IS game feel.

Denshattack! is a breakneck, stylish thrill ride packed with chaotic gameplay, eye-catching visuals, and an unforgettable soundtrack. Despite occasional control issues, this is one train ride I never wanted to end.
