First of all as a person who didn't play the older games,i have to say that not nearly as bad this game is as the old fans makes it out to be. Visually it looks great and it can be very very fun. It could become my favorite sandbox game if wasn't for some of its flaws. Which is in my opinion is first it should stick to the mall setting throughout the entire game, after stepping out of the mall it immediately looses a lot of its charm. Second is the pacing, while it's a game that offers a lot of action really quickly, it can seriously slow the experience down significantly with it's annoying main quests where you have to photograph a bunch of things when you have no idea what you are looking for or neither you care for that matter when you just want to go back and slay more zombies. Third which is the lesser for me is the technical issues which still exist in 2024 like the usual bags and glitches. What could be the ultimate sandbox zombie fun it sadly brought down by some unfortunate missteps.

The new creative director had the nerve to insert himself into the game. That should be enough to let gamers know where the studio's head was when creating this. Dead Rising 4 is so far removed from any of the things that made Dead Rising the unique franchise it was. Long gone are the tension adding timers and terrifyingly intriguing Psychopaths. These are now "streamlined" into a linear endless experience and baddies called "maniacs". The maniacs have no backstory or reason to care who they are before you punch their tickets. I do have to admit that as a holiday game, there is some mindless fun to be had with Dead Rising 4. It would be more enjoyable if it weren't in the shadow of four far more captivating titles. A co-op campaign wouldn't have hurt the games chances either. If asked to sum this game up in one word it would be bland.

So, who was this game made for because it certainly wasn't made for fans of the franchise. Who are you playing as? Frank West? Oh sure, he just looks completely different, acts different and even has a brand-new voice actor... but that's Frank West. They also make it such a big deal to return to the Willamette Mall from the first game but the map doesn't look anything like it did back in 2005, so there's no nostalgia to get excited for. Is there still zombie-bashing? Yeah, but even that's pretty boring now since you can easily take on a horde of zombies with your bare firsts like an hour into the game. If this is Frank "big package," he needs to return to sender.

I've played and beaten every aspect of this game solely because it's the only third person zombie apocalypse in progress game I could find on PS4. As a fan of all the previous Dead Rising titles, this is absolutely the worst one. If I were a non fan, I might be able to give it more of a pass because it is brainless fun to massacre zombies. That said, the writing is so damn bad it hurts. How the studio managed to make writing worse than the recent Saints Row reboot is astounding.

The game is shockingly linear, for what's supposed to be an open world. Game is very Buggy. Had to reset checkpoint 3 times in first hour of game play due to Glitches. No Easy Difficulty. No Accessibility Options. You spend more time fighting humans than zombies. (The Walking Dead, which I love, has screwed up Zombie video games because they are all now about fighting evil humans with zombies now just there for easy carnage to fight through.) Tutorials are horribly lacking. Good Survivors make same exact same sounds as Evil Survivors. Why can Evil Survivors fight but Good ones can't. Doesn't make any sense. You have a Digital Camera that only holds 50 pictures. So you have to waste time locking the pictures you like so you don't lose them when they could have just given you 300-500 or so picture slots, for quality of life. The game looks good, but it feels like a bad BAD clone of Dead Rising not an Actual Dead Rising Game.

For some reason I've never been overly swayed by the allure of playing a Capcom game. Monster Hunter World was interesting and impressive in it's early hours and I even somehow managed to accurately predict that it would be nominated for GOTY 2018, but despite these points of praise I found the game's core gameplay loop to be repetitive, boring, somehow pointless and somehow devoid of fun. My impressions of the Resident Evil 2 Remake were uncannily similar - despite all the praise and the quality of the production values, the RE2 Remake was another 'popular' Capcom game that just didn't appeal to me for the same reasons. I think the main problem with both of the aforementioned games is that they are made for a very specific type of gamer: Diehard Capcom fans who play games not for fun, but to prove something to others/themselves and convince themselves that whatever Capcom cranks out is 'fun' despite it's deliberately designed gameplay flaws. Thankfully, Dead Rising 4 isn't quite as bad as it's other Capcom counterparts and even manages to be somewhat fun, but at the same time it can't quite escape the tractor-beam pull of it's nature as a Capcom branded product. I've never played a Dead Rising game before, so I came to Dead Rising 4 with few expectations. The story starts off really strongly, with the voice-acting and writing being more than adequate and establishing the game's narrative tone from the get-go. In terms of character movement, HUD and overall control scheme, I couldn't help, but notice some similarities with Days Gone (obviously Sony Bend were inspired by certain elements of DR4). Overall the gameplay in DR4 is engaging and, dare I say it, actually fun to play - to the point where I actually saw the game through to the credits. However there are still issues that dampened the overall experience for me. Let me start off by saying that I really liked the character of Frank West. As the player character and lead protagonist, Frank has a great on-screen presence and personality, and his quips are frequently funny. Frank's charm and charisma stem from being wizened and jaded in equal measure by past experiences and his strength and determination in the face of adversity is made believable and relatable by how he is portrayed emotionally. However, this doesn't stop Capcom Vancouver from displaying Frank's zany and sociopathic side with how he deals with threats to his safety, regularly swearing or firing off humorous or witty one-liners. While I like Frank's personality, I found his choices and motivations within the narrative to contradict the morality of his character. The same can be said for most of the other characters in Dead Rising 4's main story. Because everyone has an agenda or an ulterior motive or some hitherto unknown past, the story becomes a meaningless mess because everyone's motivations undermine their capacity to focus on survival, and thus the ability for logical storytelling is cast aside in favour of edgy nonsense. Another problem with the supporting cast is that none of them are particularly memorable. Furthermore, the game lacks a primary antagonist and when it does attempt to provide one near the end it feels rushed, underdeveloped and obligatory, serving the usual fare of spouting twisted-logic monologues that confuse instead of providing clarity. As a final note about the story, the ending is insultingly disappointing and makes all the players' efforts meaningless. On the gameplay front, Dead Rising 4 is the 'funnest' Capcom game I've played so far. The combat is adequate with assigned light and heavy attacks, dodge roll and combo finisher. The real star of DR4's combat are the combo-weapons which are insanely overpowered. Within the first few hours I gained access to weapons that were weird, wacky, but unbelievably fun to use. It's this aspect of the game that is Dead Rising 4's biggest drawcard. There are also combo-vehicles that, much like their combo-weapon counterparts, are really fun to use. DR4 also features investigative elements that require you to use Frank's camera and a skill tree system that has over a hundred skills. There are random events, side missions and safehouses to unlock. All of this guarantees a total of 30-40 hours of gameplay. Where DR4 falls down is with it's enemy variety and this really hurts the combat (and the game) a lot. You will spend most of your time killing lots and lots and lots and lots and **** zombies. I'm not kidding. Killing zombies is basically the main backbone of Dead Rising 4. The big problem is that the basic zombies in DR4 are mindlessly easy to beat and there are literally thousands of them constantly spawning all the time. There are a few other types, but they're just as easy to defeat. At nearly 24 hours and 28000 zombies quelled, I'd had my fill of Dead Rising 4. While it could be called 'Dynasty Warriors with Zombies', DR4 is brainless fun and nothing more.

I really loved my time with Dead Rising 4, its a great game, and one of my favorites in PS4. Despite some flaws in its graphics and story (the maniacs should have their own plot), you can have a lot of fun trying new weapons and finding all of its secrets.

This is a really dumb game, the developers themselves have stated in interviews released before the game's release that they attempted to make this game a playground for the players to do stupid things, I'm paraphrasing as to what they specifically said, but I clearly remember them saying something among those lines explicitly in one of the interviews for the game's promotion. The problem with this comes from the way this approach affects the story, stupidity isn't immediately a formula for success, independently on whether most people might enjoy a game with such approach given that it's easier to play a "dumb" game, than a more "complex" one that actually requires you to think, analyze, and incorporate the themes of the game in an "intelligent" way. However, as terrible as this idea of making a dumb game is for the actual narrative of the game, this approach perhaps unsurpinsingly, makes the gameplay of this game enjoyable for the most part. As it's common in this franchise you can use multiple objects as weapons, combo weapons also make a return, but this time around they're not only extremely common and easy to craft but they are also abundant, you can sometimes just find a combo weapon lying around in secret safe houses that you can spot in specific areas in the game with your camera. As it happened in the original Dead Rising, Frank West, the main protagonist of the first entry in the series as well as in this title, gets to use his camera (being the photo journalist he is) to take pictures of his enviroment, foes, and even himself (in the form of a "selfie") this pictures like the original game are graded. This mechanic can be ignored for the most part while playing the game unless you reach to certain areas that require you to use your camera to analize specific objects in your enviroment in order to progress further through the story of the game. it is an unpleseant game to listen to and to pay attention to when it comes to its story, so much so that I ended up skipping most of the cutscenes in the game after not being able to "stomach" the first one. But when it comes to the gameplay the game is a mixed bag. There were times where I had a lot of fun,.. Runnig around in a Santa Claus costume while shooting zombies with a shotgun and watching them tumbling around one after the other, only to then switch to a lightsaber to cut multiple zombies in half with a single thrust it's quite enjoyable. But after a while I started noticing a pattern in the game. A terrible one at that. Most of this game is functional on a superficial level. Which is to say. This is a game filled with side missions, side content, multiple costumes to unlock, multiple skills to get, multiple weapons to use, thousands of them, several different combinations of combo weapons that you can create, and a lot of replayability with different game modes such as a new game plus mode... But for the most part none of this has been polished in any way. Often times combo weapons repeat the same animations as regular objects and, or, weapons. Guns don't feel any different for the most part, even when using combo weapons a lot of them share extreme similarities. The camera serves as an imposed gadget to use in the name of keeping an iconic item in the franchise intact in this "reboot" of the original game. The game just doesn't have the depth nor the same purpose from the original title, and for the most part whatever interesting aspects you could've found in the past entries to this franchise, has been banalized and devoided of reason, profoundess, and meaning. So why am I scoring it a 7? Because despite all of these negative aspects the game still remains a fun title to kill time and play as long as you see it for what it is and not as a new entry in the Dead Rising franchise. This is a game you should approach with the idea of getting nothing other from it other than an extremely easy dumb time killing zombies whilst repeating the same activities over and over again. Ironically enough what I wanted from Dead Rising when I first bought the game back in 2006 is a lot of what I got from this title. I remember I hated the first Dead Rising when it first came out because the trailers made it seem like it was a game where for the most part you killed zombies in fun ways, and whilst it had some of that, the focus was in the rescuing of survivors and in time management, choosing which cases/missions to solve first or last. This game throws a lot of that out the window, but for what it has I enjoy it because they're the aspects I like the most in this franchise, I just wish they have kept some others, like an actual compelling story, or actual psychopaths, bosses that were staples in the franchise have now been reduced to aggresive npcs. Despite all of that though, it is still an enjoyable game to play and one that I recommend.

Don't believe all these negative reviews, the game is good, they're just people who haven't played the game who are on the hate bandwagon. This is definitely one of the best Dead Rising games, maybe even the best.

This is the biggest playground of zombie killing with tons of interiors and items you can pick up. Loads of weapons and combos. The vehicles are awesome too. If you liked to play dead rising off the record like me without the timer and just screw around then this is for you. The story doesn't matter to me. The timer in the first game really put me off. All I want to do is run amok in a mall with a buttload of ways to mutilate freaks. Now there is a giant map outside of the updated mall. The story in this series is not the draw for me, it's the gameplay. This entry nailed it.

Да заебись зашла. Главное - долго за ней не засиживаться, иначе быстро настопиздит. Зомбаков пошинковать не напрягая извилины заумными квестами - тоже иногда полезно.

As a long time fan of the Dead Rising series i really hate this game, they ruined a once great character and a once great setting. This game's story is one of the worst in any video game and the graphics are terrible too, Dead Rising 2 on the PS3 looks better than this. There are so many bugs and glitches that sometimes make this game unplayable. This is not a Dead Rising game far from it. I had my issues with Dead Rising 3 but it still felt like a Dead Rising game, this crap doesn't.

Video game junk food. Not for me. Once you've played a couple hours, you'll played the game. The only semi-interesting game mechanic this game has is finding the weapon blueprints, other than that the zombies become more annoying the more you play, like get outta my way! Lame skill tree, story that is basically kitchen sink stuff. Mowing down hundreds of zombies is not fun anymore in 2018, especially if you can't create an interesting world, story, and innovative game play mechanics. I've played dead rising 2 like 10 years ago, there is literally nothing new in this game.

A lazy, pathetic and sorry excuse for a Dead Rising game but decent in it's own ways as a game. Removal of many of the series features let's it down including throwable items, psychopath bosses with cutscenes, lack of original Frank VA, time limit, campaign co-op and more! Along with bugs, crashes and the graphics being average at best with an unfinished look at times (but atleast it's more colourful than the 3rd game) I'm very surprised they didn't add campaign co-op with this second chance. It really shows just how much they listen to their fanbase. Add it back or it's 1/10 forever! This is definitely the worst Dead Rising game to date!

Dead Rising 4: Franks Big Package Fun until it’s not Dead Rising 4 Franks Big Package is a collection of the base Dead Rising4 game, but comes with all dice including Capcom heroes mode, 4 player co-op, mini golf that can be played local and online, and the Frank Rising DLC that takes place after the end of this games story.. I didn’t find any of the extras special… But this games campaign definitely is… Dead Rising 4 is my first Dead Rising game... here you play as retired journalist Frank West, all you wanna do is play some mini golf, but youre tricked into covering one last zombie story.. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get out of this game... I was expecting just a mindless zombie slasher game… but there’s so much more to it than this... For starters the story is throwaway... its here but its background noise to the addictive weapon gathering that is this game... What makes dead rising so unique from other zombie games is that it feels authentic to what an actual zombie apocalypse would feel like in a cartoony way… practically almost everything in this world can be used as a weapon… This about 10 and half hour long game starts in a mall but takes place in an open world and I wasn’t expecting the have as much freedom in combat as I was given… At first I was grabbing the most ridiculous weapons to be funny… ive never killed something in a video game with a giant candycane or a Christmas wrieth… But as the game went on, enemies started to become a threat and I had to start taking things a little more seriously.. But not completely… hidden through this games open world are blue prints that will allow you easily combine items for ridiculously powerful weapons... and youll get to experience so many because weapons do break fairly quickly.. Thankfully you’re able to carry a decent amount with you, as you’ll have melee slots, throw able, and ranged weapons… I was surprised with how unreceptive the game ultimately ends up being as the first hour of the game is what you get until the end… it’s just picking up new weapons and killing everything in your way until you complete an objective, leveling up and dumping skill trees for more slots for weapons and health pickups and increasing your stats of both you and the vehicles in the world… Annoyingly though you can’t really drive everything in the world.. But if you look hard enough you’ll always be near at least 1 car to drive of bike to ride… the game slow down a bit at times for you to investigate areas which I didn’t mind much at all... changing the pace of the game, letting you breathe.. it allows you to crave the zombie and rogue survivor slaying… The game does eventually get to that feeling of repetitiveness though… Thankfully it started to wrap up around that time… I was over it before it was over.. so I feel the campaigns length is pretty near perfect… The story doesn’t end with the credits though Again included in this collection is the Frank Rising DLC.. You’re a zombie version of Frank trying to get cured and escape, but you’re given an hr. and a half real time to do this… And this mode is just not fun... there are no weapons here.. You’re given 3 zombie moves, an acid spit, a scream, and a pounce… and these mechanics are just awful for combat when guns are involved... you don’t feel overpowered as youre pouncing and eating enemies for health… You just start getting frustrated as enemies with guns surround you and take you out over and over.. There’s an imbalance here and nowhere near the epic chaos that is the base of this game… IF you’re a fan of slaying zombie hordes in anyway, you definitely owe it to yourself to pick up Dead Rising 4 I’m tired of Zombie games and even I had fun fighting with ridiculous items, and finding fresh gear throughout the world. I give Dead Rising 4: Franks Big Package An 8/10

Dead Rising 4 is made by a studio that has no respect, care or interest in the original classic. It is a shameful entry, that doesn’t damn well deserve to stay in the Dead Rising universe. Where the original shined was in the little details, and the wacky tone of the whole thing. DR4 is basic, third-person zombie slaying that feels a lot like a re skin of DR3. Top that off with lazy writing, a bland open world, and the worst Frank West ever conceived by man. I love the original, and to see the series getting butchered in this way is disgusting, and really makes you think what goes on at Capcom.

Horrible excuse for a next generation entertainment. I haven't played Dead Rising since it came out on Xbox the first time and thought it had a lot of potential, here I am some odd years later going into Dead Rising 4 with an expectation for a fun game and see the next-gen improvements, but nope, barely anything has changed. Weak story line overall. They also got rid of the boss cutscene which usually builds up the intensity and the timer which gave it a sense of urgency, so all we're left with is something that feels like it could be done on a previous generation console. This game could've been fun if the developer would build up the story with references inspired by classic scenario zombie tropes like Zack Synder's Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later or so many other Zombie horror flicks, but no, the game story is so dull that I just ended up skipping through most of the cutscenes. In conclusion I'd say don't get this game unless they do something to fix it, the only way that this could be a pretty fun game is if this was 2005, but sadly this is 2017 and there should be no room for games like this when you're paying 60$ for it and could get other games like GTAV, MGSV, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Etc in comparison for the same price.

There are definitely some clunky menu issues and a bug here and there, nothing major or game breaking at least so far. I don't know where people get this notion that Dead Rising story was some like super cereal intriguing thriller but its about what you would expect more or less. Its extremely nice that the time limit thing is gone, as much as I liked Dead Rising I don't want to have to play a game 10 times to do everything. Pretty decent attempt from Capcom to change things up and bring in new people, not everything needs to cater to just the herpcore fan base that doesn't like change or apparently fun, cause the game is fun...There is a ton of content that its kind of surprising that Capcom didn't try and charge the full $60 for it Collapse

The game is fine, please don't hate it , there is potential here. Νo one expected a top notch zombie game, and precisely for that i am quite satisfied with the result. It is a fun game the graphics needed more work, however that was never the strong suit of dead rising, the story is nothing new or thrilling but the setting is brilliant. Killing zombies with the jingle bells theme never gets old. The price could have been a bit cheaper given the fact that the DLC is 17gb so there is no way to download it, having spent almost $50 for a game that got released last year is too much. But i don't complain i love having dead rising 1.2.4 in my collection, lets hope for 3. I would suggest you wait to find it in the bargain bin , but it is a fun ride especially now with the Christmas theme.

There's a ton of potential here, and it's completely wasted by removing series tropes in favor of nonsensical zombie killing. Easily the blandest game in the series, and no amount of costumes and post launch DLC will fix that. The game is fundamentally stunted due to poor response from controls, and a lack of things to do outside of the main missions, which are required to be done before one can have full access to the map in the last couple of missions. When your open world game doesn't open up until chapter 4, and it only has 6 chapters, there is a problem.
