Such games are rare, and I consider Contact to be a triumph of development. But, putting aside my assessment of its artistic merit, Contact is really just a fun, engaging RPG that Nintendo DS owners have been waiting for ever since the system was released.

Contact has an easy to grasp control scheme, making it simple for anyone to pick up and play. However, the game is still incredibly deep, with tons of customization options for your journey.

This game is great. It perfects the RPG reward system, as well as the game-play formula for the RPG. It's a unique game. The level-up system is definitely done well, and quite well done. The level design could be a little more complex, the immersion is good, the graphics design is quite unique, and the game-play is based on a unique aspect. Costumes. No, I don't mean costumes from Party City. Suits would be a better term. They give abilities that can be leveled up. I can see the time put into this game. A good 95/100.

Contact is a game from the early days of the ds, when no one really had any idea on how to make a good use of the touch screen and tried to mix and match between buttons and touch screen usage, since its required in a couple of sections, while also giving the possibility to play the game entirely with only touch controls.
Despite the weird control choice, Control (no pun intended) is a great rpg with a funny yet catchy story, weird fighting mechanigs, a bit of grinding, fourth wall breaks, and an ending you wont soon forget.
Bosses are always different and play with different gimmicks, dungeons are really fun to crawl through and full of hidden paths, as well as loads of references to other videogames. Characters are likeable, albeit none of them are explored enough nor have enough depth.
Combat manages to be fun while being mostly automatic (this doesnt apply to some of the bosses that really spice things up!) and getting better stata did not feel grindy at all, i just earned them by playing the game normally.
What i did, however, dislike, is how a 10000 coins item is REQUIRED to progress with the story. in a game like this, where money is scarse due to not being as important and the most expensive equipment costs 5000, pricing a story related item that high is simply absurd. That was the grindy part for me.
Despite that, I highly reccomend playing this game, just save your money in advance and be ready to sell every weapon you dont need when the times comes.
I wish the game was a little bit longer.

Contact is an amazingly interesting title, and while it isn’t necessarily for everyone, gamers who get into the design are going to find themselves rewarded with a ton of awesome content.

If you can bear the disappointment, and push on through, you'll realise that, between the whole intertextual thing and the interesting-but-average RPG mechanics, there's still a decent game in here. It's just a shame it's not the amazingly brilliant one it could have been.

A mixed bag of seen-it-all-before RPG standards, totally weird plot devices and unspeakable gaming in-jokes. Both like and unlike everything you've played before. [Nov 2006, p.67]

With a mixed bag of quality, humor, and creativity to work with, gamers will likely find themselves split over the game’s appeal. It’s not a bad game; it simply lacks a decent execution.

If only as much imagination had been applied to the gameplay as the narrative. [Dec 2006, p.108]

Don't think because I rated it 7/10 I don't like it. Like everybody says, the story and meta-ness of the game work and everything about the game is a fresh change from the sameness of other RPGs. Except... the grind! I like a good dungeon crawl, but eventually I bored with cooking to make better healing items, and it's clear this is just padding--just one of the many games from this era ruined by the use of crafting to stretch a game out as long as possible. If you are unaware of your own mortality this may not be as much of an issue for you, in which case I think the game's an 8. I have promised myself I will finish the game one day, but actually I really doubt it. Worth playing, but be prepared for a long grind if you want to see the end of the story.
