Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is not the long-awaited revival of the classic Carmageddon, but rather a blatant case of cashing in on a famous name.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift tries to take the popular vehicle-combat formula and bring it to a different genre. At times, it works and can be fun. Unfortunately, frustrating driving controls, response issues, lackluster AI, and repetitive race types and boss fights hold this game back in ways that’ll disappoint long-time fans.

It's not the return that longtime fans imagined, but it's a solid and modern experience, capable of entertaining despite a certain repetitiveness over the long term.

This is not Carmageddon, somehow, someway, the essence of Racing through an Apocalypse, running over people and enemies with blood and bone crunching violence has all but disappeared. Folks, Motor Storm Apocalypse from the PS3 era has more effort and feeling in it than this game. Graphics are not everything, especially when you don't bother to use detailed effects like camera shaking, blur and so on to convey the Chaos. This game is more of a Derby-type game, not necessarily an apocalyptic Racer that induces fun.
There are systems and upgrades, but honestly is just your basic and generic upgrade system. If this were 2005,l ike NFS Most Wanted, then maybe this might be acceptable, but here it makes NFS Most Wanted, and other older games seem more focused and understanding of the player. 6/10, some might find entertainment in this game, unfortunetly i'm not looking for slightly entertaining, I'm looking for a Racing game that respects my Time as I progress on. Maybe Screamer might be the game that does it for me.

There's finally a new contender in the car combat space, and personally I find the roguelite element a welcome addition. All of the negative reviews because this "isn't carmageddon" are wild - it's a spin-off. The dev team tried something new. They brought back the zombies that existed in the censored version of the original. They pulled in elements from other games that have been taking off in the mainstream. It's chaotic, at times frustrating (as are all roguelites as an average gamer), but genuinely fun. Wild that people want to tank it just because.

Been having a blast. I don't have as much time to play games as I used to now that I have kids. So this is great being able to get mostly through a run in 1-2 hours. While I love racing games, I've always hated racing games that give you a crap car at first, then you have to upgrade it several times before it's even remotely good. Then you get into a new tier of races and your car **** again. You either upgrade it more or need to restart a bit with a new car. Oh and all of that costs money (game money) but still, good lord I don't need to see my video game self going into debt too. Anyway, back to this game. I'd love some additional modes and a few other things but I just keep finding myself coming back to play more. And to me, that's a 10/10.

This novel twist on vehicular combat may not be the full revival longtime genre fans have been craving, but it delivers a genre mashup I never knew I needed while simultaneously providing a fun callback to racing's most explosive eras.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is a mechanically satisfying destruction-based racer, offering high-octane and chaotic races combining bold weapons, lots of zombies and lots of crunching metal. Its roguelite twist offers high risk scenarios where you’ll have to think twice about excessively daring moves, but it also feels like something introduced partly to mitigate the game’s limited depth and variety. Completing everything may take quite a lot of runs, but it only takes a few hours to test virtually all the game has to offer, barring a few later unlocked weapons, cars and upgrades. Racing fans looking for a destructive experience will likely enjoy Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, but its array of content may prove to be a tad too slim for the $40 launch price.

Despite taking Carmageddon in an interesting new direction, this game did not need to use the title, since its mechanics are more a spin-off entry. The beta handling changes were a step in the right direction, as I was ready to give this game a 4 until those changes came, which means hopefully the team at 34BigThings keep improving what they have here. The core loop is occasionally fun and the carnage is great to be a part of, but repetition sets in far too quickly and the lack of endgame content leaves little reason to return once beat. The handling fixes help, but they cannot disguise a thin roguelite built around a narrow selection of events. There is potential here and future updates may yet realise it, but for now, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is spinning its wheels, struggling to get to the finish line.

Carmageddon Rogue Shift takes the destruction of the original Carmageddon games and adds roguelite elements like persistent upgrades and branching paths. As someone that played the originals with my dad in the 90s and having a lot of doubts when this first came out, I surprisingly actually found myself having tons of fun. You can increase your car’s strength and durability through permanent upgrades, as well as during each run. This gives every attempt a sense of progress, even when things go sideways. Runs can snowball quickly if you upgrade efficiently, though it may take a few tries to really understand what each upgrade does. I personally spent most of my time using the melee truck build, but there are other vehicles available, each with their own abilities and playstyles. This variety helps keep runs from feeling repetitive and encourages experimentationThe destruction is pretty satisfying. You have to run over zombies and destroy other cars if you want to earn boost, while also picking up ammo and repair kits, which can be tricky to balance in the middle of a race. Some of the later levels can get really challenging, but they offer greater rewards, making the risk feel worth taking.Controls feel intuitive, even though I played entirely on keyboard. The steering could be improved, but it’s probably just a learning curve I haven’t fully adapted to yet. Once you get the hang of it, especially when to use the handbrake, steering will be **** in all, I had fun so far playing a roguelite Carmageddon. There's tons of replayability through the roguelite elements, so you could play any build and see how far you get

It's not really a problem what this game is—some kind of destruction derby with a twisted metal vibe. The problem with this game, IMO, is that it's NOT CARMAGEDDON.

Just... What is this slop ****??? Absolute trash, low budget UE slop made for... who, exactly?? This is not Carma, and I believe this is not original dev studio, this is some abomination with Carma skin and 2010 (at best) level graphics.
